15 Submarine Cables: PC-1 (1) The PC-1 is a ring-configuration transpacific cable system that stretches 21,000 km and has a capacity of 3.2 terabits per second. NTT Com began operating the system in 2009, when it wholly purchased Pacific Crossing Limited. Two landing stations on each side of the Pacific connect Japan and the U.S. via the most direct-possible routes, enabling the PC-1 to offer the lowest latency of any transpacific route. 34/90

16 Submarine Cables: PC-1 (2) Pacific Crossing and NTT Com successfully completed the world s first transpacific 100Gbps WDM transmission trial with digital coherent technology in the PC-1 cable. Digital coherent technology is a next-generation optical transmission technology that enables ultra-fast 100Gbps transmission. NTT Com confirmed its viability in the PC-1 cable, based on which it will upgrade transmission capacity from 3.2Tbps at present to 10Tbps in mid Overview of digital coherent technology 1.
