4 02 OUR LOCATIONS OUR LOCATIONS CQUNIVERSITY HAS ONE OF THE LARGEST FOOTPRINTS OF ANY UNIVERSITY IN AUSTRALIA, WITH MORE THAN 20 LOCATIONS AND PLANS FOR MORE UNDERWAY. OUR LOCATIONS EXPLAINED CAMPUS A Campus is a CQUniversity location with student facilities such as libraries, lecture theatres and other learning spaces, student advice centres and commercial outlets such as food and beverage. Campuses can be accessed by both on-campus and distance education students. STUDY CENTRE A Study Centre is a CQUniversity location that is a smaller version of a campus. While you will find staff and teaching facilities here, study centres usually don t have a full range of services, for example commercial outlets/food and beverage. PARTNER STUDY HUB A Partner Study Hub is a CQUniversity location where students can drop in to utilise Internet and computing facilities and access information about CQUniversity programs, courses and services. Partner Study Hubs are operated in collaboration with CQUniversity partners such as TAFE and other organisations. While limited student facilities and services are available here, our friendly staff can help you connect with other CQUniversity staff and services. For more information visit DISTANCE EDUCATION STUDY CENTRE (DESC) A DESC is a CQUniversity location that caters specifically for distance education students, offering facilities such as study rooms, meeting rooms, computing and videoconferencing, Internet access and access to staff who can assist with student enquiries. Our DESCs provide a quiet place for study, away from home and work.

5 03 DISTANCE EDUCATION CQUNIVERSITY IS ONE OF AUSTRALIA S LEADING PROVIDERS OF FLEXIBLE EDUCATION AND TRAINING WITH HUNDREDS OF PROGRAMS AND COURSES OFFERED BY DISTANCE EDUCATION. STUDY YOUR WAY education gives you the flexibility to study in your own home at your own pace, allowing you to balance study with family and work commitments. It also provides an opportunity for those who live in rural and remote areas, or internationally, to access university study without the need to relocate. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How do I access my study materials? For most programs and courses, study materials are delivered via an online platform where you will have access to your study guides, video lectures, lecture slides, tutorial questions and solutions, online chat sessions and forums as well as other resources. What is a residential school? When studying by distance education, some individual courses or units within your program or course may require you to attend an on-campus residential school. Residential schools are an important part of your program or course, allowing you to network with lecturers, fellow students and industry specialists, whilst gaining hands-on, practical experience. To find out which programs and courses have residential schools, visit Where do I sit my exams? Choose from more than 200 exam centres across Australia and around the world. If you live more than 150 km from a centre, you can apply to create a location closer to your home. What support will I receive? In addition to online study materials and regular communication with our teaching professionals, CQUniversity offers a range of student support services to assist you throughout your study journey. Services include online orientation to assist your transition into university life, ongoing assistance through the Student Mentor program, counselling services, support for students with a disability or medical conditions, career planning services and more. ONLINE ENROLMENT The Enrolment Made Easy website is designed to get you on your way, fast. This easy to navigate, online service will help you plan your program or course, enrol in courses or units, understand your financial commitments and prepare for study. FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE As a new student, you will need to become familiar with a lot of information and this can be overwhelming. 7 cqu.edu.au 05 MORE WAYS TO STUDY AND TRAIN APPRENTICESHIPS AND TRAINEESHIPS The steps to becoming an apprentice or trainee are different to becoming a student at university or TAFE. Generally, you will be required to find an employer who is willing to employ you as an apprentice or trainee. During your apprenticeship or traineeship, your employer (or Group Training Organisations/Job Services Australia provider) may arrange for you to undertake vocational education and training at CQUniversity. For more information, visit CROSS-INSTITUTIONAL STUDY If you are enrolled in an undergraduate or coursework postgraduate program at another institution, and wish to undertake CQUniversity courses, you may choose to apply for cross-institutional study. You will require approval from your home institution and this must be submitted as part of your application. SINGLE NON-AWARD STUDY If you want to update or expand your knowledge in a specific area, without committing to an entire program, you may wish to apply to study a single non-award course. You will be required to meet the entry and pre-requisite requirements for admission to the program from which the course or courses belong to. START UNI NOW (SUN) SUN offers Year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to study CQUniversity courses from degree-level programs whilst still in secondary school, as part of their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). You can enrol in a range of courses, either on-campus (face-to-face) or by distance education (online), and combine them with your regular school work. For more information, visit VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN SCHOOLS (VETIS) The VETiS program offers Year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to study a range of TAFE courses, from Certificate I to diploma-level, as part of their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). If you don t meet the traditional academic or English language entry requirements, our English, Study and Work Preparation programs and courses are designed to support and assist you. CERTIFICATE COURSES If you re returning to work after some time away, keen to develop your language, literacy and numeracy skills, looking to meet entry requirements, or need some additional support to gain the confidence and skills to undertake further study, then choose from our range of certificate courses to help you achieve your goals. ENGLISH LANGUAGE INTENSIVE COURSE FOR OVERSEAS STUDENTS (ELICOS) You can study an ELICOS program at one of our English Language Centres located at CQUniversity Brisbane, Melbourne, Rockhampton North and Sydney. Our ELICOS program helps you gain the skills and confidence for everyday English conversations and academic study. We have highly qualified and dedicated teachers who can help you learn English in a supportive and caring environment. You will graduate with an excellent foundation of the English language which will allow you to succeed in your university studies. In addition, you will have a smooth transition into your university studies as you are already familiar with the staff and support services available at the University.
