2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY LenovoEMC LifeLine offers various video surveillance solutions, including Mindtree SecureMind Surveillance Manager, Axis Video Hosting System, and Axis Camera Companion. This guide provides information on installing these third-party solutions and setting them up on your Lenovo network storage device. ASSUMPTIONS This guide assumes you have purchased a Lenovo network storage device and have connected it to your network. AUDIENCE Information contained in this white paper is intended for LenovoEMC customers, partners, and service personnel involved in planning, architecting, or administering video surveillance with Lenovo network storage devices. TERMINOLOGY SST: Surveillance Storage Target, which is network storage for recorded or archived video. VMS: Video Management System. IVMS: Integrated Video Management System, which offers storage and video management software. HSS: Hosted Surveillance System, which offers storage to the cloud. NAS: Network Attached Storage: The name given to dedicated data storage technology that can be connected directly to a computer network to provide centralized data access and storage to heterogeneous network clients. 1

3 VIDEO SURVEILLANCE BUSINESS NEED Internet Protocol (IP) cameras have made it easier, faster, and more economical to record and remotely view high-resolution security video for a wide range of customers, including those in retail, healthcare, education, entertainment/hospitality, transportation, home/residential, office, industrial and government. With all this video being recorded, customers require affordable and scalable network storage to archive and retrieve their surveillance video. In particular, small- to mediumsized businesses (SMBs) need powerful, cost-effective, and easy-to-manage storage to keep up with their increasing video capacity demands. The Lenovo family of storage devices offers scalable and affordable video surveillance solutions that let customers record, store, and protect their video. The combined video surveillance software and device solutions can support from 4 to 48 cameras per device at a lower cost than the traditional DVR/NVR installations. Lenovo network storage devices offer Integrated Video Management Systems (IVMS), Hosted Surveillance System (HSS), and Surveillance Storage Target (SST) through a variety of vendors. SecureMind from Mindtree is the IVMS offering. Axis Video Hosting System (AVHS) from Axis Communications is the HSS solution. In addition, Lenovo devices are a recommended SST for the new Axis Camera Companion from Axis Communications. Which VMS Solution Is Best for My Situation? 4 MINDTREE SECUREMIND SURVEILLANCE MANAGER Mindtree SecureMind Surveillance Manager Integrated Video Management System (IVMS) is a solution built for small- to medium-sized businesses and distributed enterprises. It is a solution for businesses that want to manage their own video surveillance system on-site, at the lowest possible cost. SecureMind Surveillance Manager runs directly on a Lenovo network storage device and includes one free camera license. SecureMind Surveillance Manager is completely integrated with a Lenovo network storage device, which simplifies installation and configuration. You can plug cameras into your network and start managing and monitoring remotely using a web browser. Installing the VLC Player Plug-In Prior to installing Mindtree SecureMind on your Lenovo network storage device, you must install the VLC Player plug-in on your client computer, so that your browser can display video from SecureMind. VLC Player v1.0.3 is recommended. 1. Search for a free download of the VLC Player on the internet for your client computer. 2. Download the VLC Player, and install it on your computer. 3

5 3. Choose the Custom install, and if you are running Firefox as your browser, select the Mozilla plug-in in the optional component list, and click Next. 4. Choose the location to install VLC player on your computer, and click Install. 5. You may have to restart your browser to see the video on the SecureMind Surveillance Manager. Installing Mindtree SecureMind 1. Access the home page of your device, and click the management icon to open the LifeLine management console. 2. On the main page of the LifeLine management console, click the SecureMind Surveillance Manager link. The software is not yet installed on your Lenovo network device, so you need to install it. 4

6 3. Click the Install SecureMind Surveillance Manager link on the page. 4. In the confirmation dialog box, click Yes. A new browser window opens and begins installing the software. 5. Check the I agree to all terms and conditions checkbox in the license agreement dialog box, and click Continue. The SecureMind Surveillance Manager Setup dialog box opens. 6. Enter a Share name in which to store your video recordings. This must be a new Share on your Lenovo network device. 7. Choose the number of days to save your recordings, up to 180 days maximum. After the selected number of days expires, the recorded videos are automatically deleted. 5

7 AXIS VIDEO HOSTING SYSTEM The Hosted Surveillance Solution (HSS) is a simple, yet powerful, video monitoring and smart storage solution embedded into the Lenovo ix and px product lines that cost less than the standard DVR/NVR deployment. Compatible with Axis IP Network Cameras, the HSS records in full HD, stores locally and offers low-cost access in the cloud. Installing Axis Video Hosting System Before installing AVHS on your Lenovo network storage device, you must contact an AVHS service provider to set up an account. Your AVHS service provider helps you register your Lenovo storage device and Axis cameras on the AVHS portal for AVHS service and provides assistance with using the AVHS service. 1. Access the home page of your device, and click the management icon to open the LifeLine management console. 2. On the main page of the LifeLine management console, click the Axis Video Hosting System link to begin installing the software. 3. Click the Install Axis Video Hosting System link on the Axis Video Hosting System page. 6

8 4. In the confirmation dialog box, click Yes. A new browser window opens and indicates that AVHS is not enabled on your Lenovo device. 5. Click to enable to begin enabling AVHS. A dialog box opens that informs you that you need to log in to the AVHS Portal. The default username and password for logging into the portal is admin. 6. Click OK in the dialog box. The AVHS software begins installing, and AVHS becomes enabled on your Lenovo network storage device. 7

9 7. Make a note of the serial number and owner authentication key (OAK). AVHS is enabled on your Lenovo network storage device. Using the serial number and OAK, you register your device on the AVHS portal. Your AVHS service provider has the portal URL. 8. Click Settings on the portal. 9. On the Settings page, click Add new device and enter the serial number and OAK from the AVHS setup on your Lenovo device. 8

10 If your device is successfully registered, you see a message on the portal. 9

11 AXIS CAMERA COMPANION AXIS Camera Companion (ACC) is a complete solution consisting of Axis cameras with edge storage support (which means that they can store video on SD cards and NAS devices), the free AXIS Camera Companion Windows client, and necessary third party IT equipment, such as routers, switches, SD cards and NAS devices. Customers who would be interested in ACC would typically be retail customers that are using some kind of analog video solution. These customers are price sensitive and have little expertise with video surveillance solutions. Network Internet Configuring ACC This procedure assumes you have already installed Axis Camera Companion client software on your computer or mobile device, and you have connected your IP cameras to your network. The ACC client is available for Windows and mobile platforms, such as the iphone, the ipad, and Android phones and tablets. 1. Run the Axis Camera Companion client software on your computer or mobile device, which opens a wizard that lets you configure cameras. 10

12 2. Click Get Started. 3. Create a site name for your cameras, apply a password to the site, and click Next. 4. Connect your cameras to your network, for example, you can choose to power your cameras over Ethernet, and click Next. 5. ACC automatically discovers cameras on your network. You may need to enter the password for discovered cameras and provide descriptive names for them. Click Next. 11

13 ACC contacts your cameras, and creates a network Share on them to store recorded video. 12

14 6. After setting up a network Share, ACC is ready to install your cameras. Click Finish. After installation, ACC opens automatically and is ready for use. 7. For additional configuration with ACC, click the cog wheel in the top left corner of the interface.
