7 VIPSAVE THE DATE EVENT Dates for Leukemia Story & photos submitted Main photo by Allison Muirhead Mix and mingle with other Jackson-area singles as Ergon presents Dates for Leukemia, a fundraiser to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Mississippi (LLS). This year will mark the 10th anniversary of this upscale date auction, where guests will have the opportunity to bid on dream dates with eligible bachelors and bachelorettes in silent auction style. The event will be held July 29 at The South in downtown Jackson, 7-11 p.m. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. Attire is cocktail. Sponsors include Personnel Plus, Service Printers and Mississippi Blood Services. Tammy Bouchillon and Jamie Woods co-chair this event and were instrumental in the creation of Dates for Leukemia 10 years ago. The first event was held in 2001, when both also participated as bachelorettes in the auction. Jamie Woods is owner of J.Woods Public Relations, and Tammy Bouchillon is Senior Marketing Representative at Mississippi Blood Services; however, the two have devoted much of their volunteer fundraising efforts Event co-chairs Tammy Bouchillon to LLS over the past decade as part of the Team in Training Program. & Jamie Woods Close to 300 singles attend this event annually. It has served as a meeting ground for couples, and the coordinators are proud to boast a few marriages that resulted! This year's event promises to be the biggest and best yet. Local personality Tony Bahou will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Musical entertainment will be provided by the band Double Shot, featuring Ronnie McGee. Ronnie and his wife Pam are strong supporters of LLS for a very personal reason. When their son Gavin was 2½ years old, he was diagnosed with leukemia. At that time, the cure rate was 50 percent. Thanks to the great strides in research since that time, the cure rate has grown to 90 percent. Gavin is now 28 years old and the father of two beautiful daughters. The McGee s credit the contributions that LLS has made to fund research for giving hope to many others like Gavin. LLS is the world s largest non-profit organization, funding research and treatment of blood cancers. Pam McGee currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the local chapter.
