Know the swing of the door which is being installed prior to installation. Verify closer spring size prior to installation. See "Size selection chart" on page. Make sure door efficiently operates prior to installing closer. The surface closer is comprised of the following components.. Closer body. Main arm. Track assembly. Pinion. Cover and end caps. Installing the surface closer: Pull side mount (T) Tools recommended Drill Bits Metal: No. & 0- Tap Wood: /" #0 Phillips screwdriver # Phillips screwdriver /" flat head screwdriver Jeweler's flat head screwdriver M Hex key Installing the track, detector, and backplate Electrical wiring outside of the wall Electrical wiring inside wall Reference template 0 NOTE: For use on regular mount applications on the pull side of the door.. Orient the detector portion of the track () away from the hinge (see step image for orientation).. Remove the appropriate wire access plug () from the track. Left hand reverse door If removing the frame side wire access plug, ensure it aligns with the wire through hole in the frame.. For wiring applications that are outside of the wall, screw a surface conduit () into the exterior wire plug hole. Left hand reverse door. Attach the track channel () to the frame through the end blocks with two provided screws [/-0x" Phillips flathead screws or No. x-/" Phillips flathead screws] ().. Slide the front indent of the detector () under the standoff (), then attach the detector to the track with four screws [-0x/" Phillips pan head screws] (). Attach the back plate () to the mounting surface using the four screws [0-x/" Phillips flathead screws or #0x" wood screws] provided with the surface closer, using the st and rd holes of the plate. Installing the surface closer NOTE: Make sure arrows on plate point upward. Toward the hinge NOTE: Orient pinion () closest to hinge.. Attach the closer body () to the plate using the four screws [Mxmm Phillips flathead] () provided with the plate itself.. Attach the main arm () to the top pinion with an Mx0 socket head cap screw () and an M lock washer () using an M hex key. Be sure the main arm is parallel to the door during application. Slide the front indent of the detector () under the standoff (), then attach the detector to the track with four screws [-0x/" Phillips pan head screw] (). Attach the closer body () to the plate using the four screws [Mxmm Phillips flathead screws] () provided with the plate itself.. Using an adjustable wrench (and looking up at the bottom of the closer): Left hand door - turn the bottom pinion counterclockwise 0 -. Right hand door - turn the bottom pinion clockwise Attach the main arm () to the top pinion with an Mx0 socket head cap screw () and one M lock washer () using an M hex key. Right hand door Be sure the main arm is parallel to the door during application. Right hand door. Align the arm () with the slide shoe of the track channel.. Door should close in to seconds from 0º. Do not close valves completely. 20 TS EMR T/PT/TDE Final installation and tests SD- Detector sensitivity test (ULC requirement only). Apply power to the detector.. Connect a voltage meter to the two test terminals ().. The normal range is between.vdc -.Vdc. Check all the wiring and connections. The LED () should blink every - 0 seconds.. If not, verify the wiring of the device. Test the hold open unlatching function. Open the door so the slide shoe engages the hold open mechanism. Test the detector. Insert a small screwdriver into the light pipe () and turn counter-clockwise. Hold for 0 seconds.. The LED will turn red and the door will close.. Turn the light pipe clockwise back to the original position to reset the detector.. The LED will turn off and then begin to blink as described in step. 0 DORMA USA, Inc. 21 TS EMR T/PT/TDE D. Final setup Installing the covers. Snap both end covers () into place.. Remove the un-needed tab (), and snap the closer body cover () into place.. Attach with a -0 Phillips pan head screw ().. Slide the tab () of the detector cover () under the end of the detector () and swing it into position.. 22 TS EMR T/PT/TDE Smoke detector testing Aerosol testing is a "go - no go" test and is not an acceptable means to test smoke detector sensitivity. If the local air velocities exceed 00 ft/min, the detector may not alarm on the first try.. Aim the Smoke Detector Tester tube at the detector and release a burst of aerosol in second bursts. Note: The detector may take up to 0 seconds to respond.. If the detector does not alarm and is in a high air velocity area, spray up to five bursts in to 0 second intervals.. If the detector still does not alarm after five repeated aerosol sprays, a higher smoke volume may be needed. DORMA accepts the use of Home Safeguard Smoke Detector Tester (Models H and S) if, and only if, it is used: With the Model 0 accessory. With the new formula as identified by a date code, located on the bottom of the can, of 0 or later. In accordance with the instructions stated above If the preceding requirements are not met, the use of the Smoke Detector Tester is unacceptable and DORMA cannot guarantee the proper operation of detectors that have been subject to this product. Other acceptable methods of aerosol or smoke generation: Gemini 0 Smoke Generator Machine (set to %/ft to %/ft obscuration as described in the Gemini 0 Manual) Burning paper or fabric in a metal can (useful for application in high air velocity locations) Burning cigarettes, punk, or cotton wick (commonly available materials) DORMA USA, Inc.
