7 Tank Annulus Monitoring Installed on many LNG tanks world wide. Projects dating back to 1990s (Nigeria, Malaysia) Cable still in operation today although controllers have been replaced several times 7

8 Pad Heating Control Real-time feedback to the pad heating system on a zonal basis Verifies proper function of the heating elements, and provides feedback for closed loop temperature control for each heating zone DTS improves efficiency: temperature data can also be used to minimize the power consumed by the heating system Alarms and system warnings are typically set for both abnormally high and low temperature readings 8

9 Cryogenic Fluid Spill Containment Cryogenic fluid in the spillways is readily detected by routing DTS sensing cable around the perimeter of the spill collection areas Alarms are usually configured for both absolute minimum temperatures and rate of temperature decrease 9

10 Pipeline Monitoring - Cool Down Thermal gradient information provided during cool down Sensor cable can be deployed beneath the insulation at both the top and bottom of the pipe Sensor alarms are triggered for problematic temperature gradients 10

11 Pipeline Monitoring - Leaks Pipe leak points identified beneath the insulation even when there is no visible external damage Defective (waterlogged) insulation can be detected early to flag for future maintenance. 11

12 DTS Certifications ATEX Fiber-Optic instruments are not Inherently safe and must be tested for ATEX safety. ATEX Zone 0 Certification for the cable is available ATEX Zone 1 Controllers are available SIL2 Most DTS systems installed on LNG facilities are assessed to SIL2 Some systems are now being specified with SIL3 capabilities. EMC, Vibration Earthquake tolerance is available to many national standards. Fire Detection It is now possible to combine both the leak detection capabilities with international fire detection standards IN ONE BOX! 12
