Karib Cable was judged the BUSINESS OF THE YEAR with Ms. Martin walking away with the CORPORATE LEADERSHIP AWARD. Joya Martin joined the company in May 2010 with a vision to lead in such a way that the employees love working with the company and that customers love doing business with Karib Cable and shareholders love the rewards of their investment. Ms. Martin says the aim of Karib Cable is to become the most loved telecommunications company in St. Lucia. Her management style has been described as open, inclusive and heavily dependent on accountability and ongoing communication. 2 New faces for 2013 St. Lucia Business Awards The changing business landscape was evident at this year s St. Lucia Business Awards held at the Sandals Grande on Saturday. Telecommunications services providers had huge wins on the night with Karib Cable and its General Manager Joya Martin winning the Corporate Leadership and Business of the Year Awards. The Entrepreneur of the Year went to The Cell s Jermile Daniel and the Regional Communication Ltd won the Prime Minister s Award for Innovation. The oldest of these companies is The Cell which has been around for 10 years, Karib Cable, 4 years and Regional Communications Ltd, even less than that. The Idea of the Year went to 123 Digital, publishers of Dazzle Magazine. First Citizens Investment Services, a relatively young company has won for the first time, walking away with the Award for Service Excellence. The Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, given for the first time by the Chamber of Commerce was won by Kurt Elibox of Blueprint Construction Ltd. Bank of Saint Lucia International won the award for Exporter of the Year with Sandals Resorts International winning the Award for Excellence in Human Resource Development. The Green Award went to Cartridge World St. Lucia Ltd, with Bay Gardens Resorts receiving the Award for Marketing Excellence. The Award for Corporate Social Responsibility went to 1 st National Bank, a perennial winner of that award and the Lifetime Achievement Award was given posthumously to Laurie Barnard of St. Lucia Distillers.
