Your school is hosting the annual turkey bowl/thanksgiving Day game. Your school principal is unhappy with the current t-shirt being sold and is looking for a new design that would increase school spirit and t-shirt sales. Since your class has been learning about the principles of design and the design elements, your principal has asked your class to come up with new and exciting designs. You Page 6
7 will need to come up with your own t-shirt design to submit to your teacher. Your teacher will be choosing 5 semi-finalists, from the semi-finalists; the principal will choose the winner. The winner s design will be placed on the t-shirt and sold at school. Be prepared to discuss the design elements that were used and the reasons why they were used. The college s job placement advisor has scheduled interviews for all seniors. The Hearst Corporation s human resource and marketing managers will be looking to hire a Graphic Designer. This is a highly prestigious position within the company and a very exciting opportunity for a recent college graduate. As one of the many candidates scheduled to interview, they are asking all interviewers to bring a sample Magazine cover based on their publications, and be ready to discuss the different aspects of your design and details of the manipulations that were used. The best candidate will be hired based on their creativity, originality, and overall skills. In society today there are many award shows on television. For example, the AMA s and the ESPY Awards. There are also many diehard fans of these shows that love to watch and read about them. One of the most sought after jobs in America is being a reporter of Awards shows. The task as a new reporter is to create a four-page newsletter for one of the award shows. It is extremely important to keep your readers happy, by making the information that is reported, accurate and interesting, as well as visually appealing (keep in mind, readers love looking at pictures of their favorite celebrities). Make sure to be creative, informative, and the designs are an original piece. Be prepared to explain any decisions that were made to your boss. The company is looking to hire a permanent reporter to cover all the award shows, so a successful response to the newsletter would provide a once in a lifetime chance to have a long and successful career. The FCS students at the school need assistance in promoting their new catering club. They have asked the graphic design class to assist. They are currently planning to hold a luncheon twice a year, however if successful, the luncheon will be held every month. The graphic designer will need to create an original logo for the club and layout the menu. The FCS students will provide the menu information. The graphic designs are to be creative, original, and interesting, and must use proper layout techniques. Your rough drafts can be submitted to the FCS students for critique.
