1 ISSUE 187 Tower Times Reach for the Moon Week Commencing 12 th April 2016 Welcome back to Term 5 the Summer Term. Hopefully the weather is on the turn and we get to experience a little sunshine! As for school, another busy term ahead and it kicked off with a bang at Rock Challenge. Many children from Key Stage 2 took part as either dancers or backstage crew. They all did an amazing job and their reward was 15 awards and a chance to present at Grimsby later in the summer. Well done to all who took part, a huge thank you to the staff for their hard work and parents for their support. PARENT GOVERNORS Following on from the recent Parent Governor elections, I am delighted to announce we had two nominations and both parents have been duly appointed. They are Suzie Smith and Michael Smeed. They both come with a wealth of business knowledge and we thank them for volunteering. NEWTON OUR EASTER BUNNY A huge thank you to all the helpers who participated with Newton, walking the streets through all weathers over the Easter Holiday. It was great fun as always and I hope your feet are now well rested! We were joined by the Fire Brigade who helped to make our street parade even more impressive. As always we were greeted well and donations flooded in. It is heart-warming at the generosity of the Grantham community and of course let s not forget it is all for the benefit of our children. Many, many thanks to you all who helped in anyway big or small. Tess Sheehy, PTFA EASTER BOOSTER Year 6 Children Thank you to children, parents and staff for supporting our Easter Booster this year. Children who attended thoroughly enjoyed the four days of learning and fun. ROCK CHALLENGE IT WAS PHENOMENAL! They only went and won!!! 15 awards of excellence and a place in the finals! What a fantastic result! A huge thank you must go out to all of the children who performed to such a high standard. Thank you to all parents, and to those of you who were able to come along in the evening and see the performance. It was lovely to hear all of your kind words and positive comments about the performance. If you were not aware we won 15 awards on the evening, they were: Excellence for choreography, Excellence for positive inclusion, Excellence for lighting, Excellence for School community support, Excellence for stage use, Excellence for soundtrack, Excellence for set design and function, Excellence for student leadership, Excellence for drama, Excellence for costuming character, Excellence for concept, Excellence for entertainment, Excellence for performance skill, Excellence for stage crew, Excellence for visual enhancement. We will now be going through to the Northern J Rock finals which are being held in Grimsby on Thursday 30 th June. We keep the same routines. We will have a few weeks off rehearsals but will keep you informed. Grimsby here we come!!!!!

2 PHOTOGRAPHS By now you should have received the proofs of the recent photographs taken in school. Please return orders as soon as possible, but no later than next Wednesday, 20 th April. Thank you. PTFA QUIZ NIGHT FRIDAY 29 TH APRIL 7-10PM All proceeds going towards the costs of taking the Rock Challenge winning team to the Grimsby finals!! 5 per person which includes a curry. Max 6 per team. Please register your team via the PTFA Facebook page or leave a note in the school office. Thank you On the last day of Term 4 our football teams travelled to Long Bennington Primary School. Our B team played first and from the start put pressure on them, trying to win first and second ball. The whole team worked extremely well together, played some great football and deserved the win by far with a couple of spectacular goals. The second game was our A team. Although there was a bit of controversy of the final score, their second half performance was quick thinking, smart football and fantastic goals. Both teams had to adapt to smaller pitch and play football. Once again I would like to say 'Thank You' to the parents for helping with the transport and supporting the boys. Mrs Duxbury-Mead QUICK STICKS COMPETITION On Thursday, 14 th April, six children from Year 5 participated in our first Quick Stick competition held at The Priory. Quick Stick is 4 a-side game with no goal keepers, using hockey sticks. With no practice (except using a Uni-Hoc during PE ) it was a new game and took them a game to get used to it. However, they soon got into it and worked really well as a team, trying to pass it around and create chances inside the 'D' to shoot as well as picking up the rules straight away. This was a challenge sport but it was great to see them enjoy trying a new sport as well as having fun. Thank you to the parents who helped with transport and allowing the children to take part at short notice. Mrs Duxbury-Mead REVIEW DAY FOR CHILDREN WITH SENDs A reminder from Mrs Bradshaw concerning the upcoming Review Day, taking place on Monday 18 th April. The appointment sheet is in the school office, so please pop in to select a convenient time. SATs TESTING FOR YEAR 6 CHILDREN These tests will be administered week commencing Monday 9 th May. Please avoid any time out of school during this week, as it is imperative your child is in school to take these tests.

How about encouraging your child to try our delicious lunches? Taster sessions were really successful at Parents Evenings this week, so let your child enjoy a nutritional meal free of charge!

3 HOT LUNCHES FOR TERM 5 Menus are appearing on ParentPay and also on our website. We are no longer distributing paper copies. HOT LUNCHES / UNIVERSAL FREE SCHOOL MEALS Hot school meals for all children in Classes Kangaroos, Koalas, Leopards, Pandas, Meerkats and Tigers are free. How about encouraging your child to try our delicious lunches? Taster sessions were really successful at Parents Evenings this week, so let your child enjoy a nutritional meal free of charge! For children in KS2 the price is 2 per day really good value. It will save you buying in food for their packed lunches. SAINSBURY SCHOOL VOUCHERS 27 TH JANUARY 3 RD MAY 2016 Just to inform everyone that we are again collecting the Sainsbury's school vouchers. If you do receive any then please could you ask your child(ren) to place them in the Sainsbury's Voucher box in the school library.
