2 A History of the Nurse Education Scholarship Program Since 2003, The Lancaster Osteopathic Health Foundation has remained committed to helping to meet the needs of the Lancaster County community for skilled health professionals by providing tuition scholarships for Lancaster County students. Each year scholarships are awarded to deserving students who are beginning their nursing education, as well as students who are looking to advance their nursing careers. Nurse Education Scholarship Program Facts: Since 2003, 179 scholarships have been awarded to local students. The Lancaster Osteopathic Health Foundation has invested $633,201 in the education of local nurses. Of the 179 scholarship recipients, 93% have fulfilled the program requirements and are working in Lancaster County health facilities. Breakdown of Degrees Awarded Since 2003: 58 Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) 69 Registered Nurses (RN) 17 Bachelor of Science Bridge Program Degrees (RN-BSN) 17 Bachelor of Science Degrees(BSN) 12 Master of Sciences Degrees (MSN) 3 PhD s 1 Doctoral of Nurse Practioner (DNP) 2 School Nurse Certificates (SNC) Harold H. Finkel, D.O. Memorial Scholarship honors Dr. Finkel, a pediatrician who practiced for many years in Lancaster County. He was instrumental in establishing the nurse scholarship program. St. Joseph Hospital s School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship established in honor of the alumni of St. Joseph s Hospital School of Nursing. Linda Gort, M.S.N., C.R.N.P. Honorary Scholarship honors Linda Gort, former Foundation Board member who played an important part in the establishment of the nurse scholarship program.
3 Thank You Donors The Board of Directors and the staff of the Lancaster Osteopathic Health Foundation would like to thank our donors for their generous support of the nursing education scholarship program. With your help, we are able to impact local health care delivery by supporting the education of bright, committed and passionate nurses who comprise our local healthcare community. The Nurse Scholarship Education Program remains an important part of our mission and we look forward to continuing to grow the program and assist in meeting the changing health care needs of Lancaster County. 4 The Path to Success Jennifer Bean, BSN Regional Gastroenterology Associates of Lancaster Member, Nurse Scholarship Selection Committee The Future of Nursing in Lancaster County Delores Minchhoff, DNP 2010 Nurse Scholarship Award Recipient Member, Child Health and Wellness Committee Meet our 2014 Nurse Scholars: o An ICU nurse for 27 years who originally worked in construction and is now pursuing a BSN degree and remains committed to the ICU o A former social worker who developed an interest in nursing while caring for grandparents and understands the value of taking a holistic approach in nursing o A college graduate who originally pursued a degree in exercise science and psychology wants the personal connection nurses have with their patients o A health informatics manager at a local FQHC who desires to work directly with patients o A CRNP student who wishes to serve the Plain community o A paramedic who would like to work in the emergency room o A psychiatric nurse practitioner who is certified in co-occurring mental health and substance abuse evaluation o An experienced nurse who is pursuing a Ph.D. and enjoys clinical instruction-helping students connect classroom theory and nursing practice in the clinical area o A DAISY award recipient from work at Penn State Children s Hospital o A CRNP student who volunteered for the Nurse Family Partnership and developed a strong interest in working with underserved populations o A Ph.D. candidate who has a heart for diverse learners and has experience in cross cultural teaching Profile of 2014 Nurse Scholarship Recipients 1 LPN, 5, RN s, 4 BSN s, 4 MSN s, 3 Ph.D s $57,764 pledged to these 17 nurses over the next 3 years as they complete their current educational goals Of the 17 scholarship recipients, 2 previously received a Lancaster Osteopathic Health Foundation scholarship They represent the following nursing schools: Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, Harrisburg Area Community College, Eastern Mennonite University, PA College of Health Sciences, Millersville University, The Pennsylvania State University, Aspen University, Drexel University, Capella University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania
