2 The RN to MSN degree option is offered to registered nurses who have graduated from an accredited diploma or associate degree nursing program, and who want to prepare for advanced nursing roles in education and/or leadership. The RN to MSN option has both an undergraduate and a graduate component. The undergraduate portion is designed to meet the essential knowledge needed by the diploma or associate degree nursing graduate to be successful in the MSN. The MSN builds upon the undergraduate courses to prepare graduates for advanced nursing roles. The MSN builds upon a baccalaureate education to prepare graduates for advanced nursing roles by promoting the development of educational and nursing leadership knowledge, concepts, and skills. Emphasis is placed on nursing theory, research, and practice that is consistent with national standards in nursing education. We facilitate personal and professional development in an environment that reflects Lourdes Franciscan values and encourages lifelong learning. Benefits of the RN-MSN The RN-MSN provides a pathway for RN s who have a BSN equivalent or a Bachelor s degree in another field who want to earn an MSN degree Both concentrations are financial aid eligible and scholarships are available for those who qualify Lourdes alumni are eligible for the $25 per credit hour alumni discount Approved by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Our MSN meets the needs of nurses who are seeking advanced positions in teaching and leadership. Our excellent program and dedicated faculty and staff are here to support you on the rewarding journey to earn your MSN. Graduates of the Nurse Educator concentration are prepared to function as generalists to teach in a variety of educational roles in nursing practice, including undergraduate nursing education, staff development, and patient education programs. Graduates of the Nurse Leader concentration are prepared to function in advanced leadership roles in a variety of health care settings. Both options include core content in nursing theory, trends in nursing, nursing research, statistics, health care policy, role development, ethics, diversity, and nursing informatics. Opportunity for immersion into the advanced role is provided in the practicum experience. The program culminates with the development of a capstone project. It is our expectation that nurses who complete the program will: Incorporate knowledge from nursing science, related fields, and professional foundations in building advanced nursing roles. Collaborate in scholarly activities of evaluation, application, and integration of nursing research into holistic nursing practice. Integrate Franciscan and personal values and beliefs into a framework for advanced nursing. Engage in professional activities, advocate for change, and articulate the role of the advanced nurse through interprofessional interaction. Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of human diversity in the provision of health care. Explore the impact of ethical, political, economic, legal, and moral issues related to healthcare in society. Develop a commitment for life long learning and advanced study. Utilize health information technologies for quality and safety initiatives related to advanced nursing roles. Apply organizational and systems leadership principles in the advanced nursing role.

3 TUITION FOR RN-MSN UNDERGRADUATE BRIDGE COURSES Fall 2015-Spring 2016 Students taking the undergraduate bridge courses will pay the current undergraduate per credit hour rate. Upon acceptance into the master s level coursework, students will be charged the current graduate program rate. 5 Admission Admission into the RN to MSN option is a two (2) step process. A conditional admission is given after completing and meeting the general admission requirements of the Graduate School. Full admission into the Graduate School is offered after the prerequisite undergraduate courses are taken attaining a C- or better in each course and a 3.00 cumulative GPA or better in the prerequisite courses. get started! Apply to the Graduate School Students seeking admission to the RN to MSN program must: Have 75 undergraduate semester credit hours excluding required undergraduate prerequisites. Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in previous coursework. Submit a completed Graduate Application for Admission. Request an official copy of all college transcripts. Provide a current resume and a statement of purpose. Provide three (3) letters of recommendation using the forms provided. Complete a satisfactory interview with the MSN program director.
