1 Post Registration Education Introduction This booklet provides an overview of a wide range of courses and modules available within the School of Nursing at the University of Ulster. The School of Nursing continues to provide a growing number of opportunities for clinically applied learning and I am pleased to provide an outline of these opportunities within this booklet. In a changing health and social care environment the need for continuing professional development is an important aspect of continuing to develop roles and providing safe and effective health care, as well as being a professional requirement. The new and revised courses outlined within this booklet cover the wide range of opportunities for professional development. Courses available include, Nursing and Midwifery Council accredited courses that permit entry of these qualifications on the professional Register, such as Specialist Practice Nursing covering hospital and community settings, nurse prescribing and nurse education. There is also information on a wide range of 2-3 module clinical applied short courses and standalone modules, that can be taken on a full time or part time basis, as well as information on other undergraduate and postgraduate opportunities for continuing professional development. Many of the courses provide opportunities for inter-professional learning and all courses and modules have a focus on application of knowledge and skills to your practice. The majority of these courses and standalone credit bearing modules are available within the DHSSPS commissioning arrangements and if you are interesting in undertaking any of these you should let your manager and Practice Education Facilitator know and discuss your request with them. In addition, further details about the courses may be obtained from the named Course Directors and Module Coordinators listed within this booklet, please contact them directly if you have any questions about a course you are interested in. At the School of Nursing we look forward to answering your questions and also having you joining us. Professor Owen Barr Head of School 1
