1 Marco Balboni Marco Balboni is professor of European Union Law at the University of Bologna. Since 2002, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in International Law, Human Rights Law and International Trade Law at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bologna-Forlì, as well as other courses within Master programmes. His research activity focuses in particular on the following areas: the role of the domestic courts in the implementation of the European Union Law, the contribution of the EU in promoting the principles of the rule of law in the international arena, and the antidiscrimination European Law, concerning both gender and LGBT issues. Prof. Balboni is the coordinator of the Forlì Winter School on the European Convention on Human Rights and of the course on the Law of Armed Conflicts. He is also the coordinator of the Erasmus Exchange Programmes with the Universities of Bruxelles, Louvain and Strasbourg, a member of the PhD Commission of the European Union Law, University of Bologna, and a supervisor of PhD thesis at the University Jaume I, Catédra Unesco de Filosofia para la Paz, Castellon, Spain. Since 1999 he is a member of the scientific board of the journal Diritto, Immigrazione e Cittadinanza, edited by ASGI, for the issues concerning the EU and the Council of Europe. Since 1991, he is solicitor, admitted to the Bar. Luciano Carrino Luciano Carrino, psychiatrist, is the President of the KIP International School and Executive Representative of its Scientific Committee. He is Vice President of the OECD/DAC Poverty Group (POVNET) for 2011/12. He has been technically responsible for the multilateral Human Development Programmes supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and realized, over the last twenty years, by UNDP, WHO, ILO, UNHCR, IFAD, UNOPS, UNIFEM, HABITAT and other UN Organisations in various countries: Albania, Angola, Argentina, Bosnia, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Gabon, Honduras, Morocco, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Serbia, South Africa and Tunisia. He has been consultant of WHO for disaster management and preparedness, of the European Union for anti-poverty programmes, of the European Parliament and UNDP for conflict prevention and management. He is the author of a WHO Manual Coping with Natural Disasters: the role of local health personnel, of the book Poverty and Services Coordination, published by the European Union Commission, and of many books on international development, including the recent Pearls and Pirates: Critique of Development Cooperation and New Multilateralism. He also produced an educational series of cartoons of Radiotelevisione Italiana on Human Development (2000), and 20 documentaries on poverty and human development ( ). Earlier in his career as a psychiatrist, he was one of the leading figures in the movements that led to mental health policy reform in Italy in Ilaria Cicione Graduated in Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities at University of Rome La Sapienza she continued her education studying with profit the Master course MIRIS Immigrants and refugees, formation, communication and social integration at the Faculty of Political Sciences, Sociology and Communication at the University of La Sapienza at Rome. Right after that she took the Master course on Theory, methods and routes for the teaching of Italian language and culture for Foreign Students" at the University for the Studies of Rome Tor Vergata. Since 2008 she is working for the private social services for the development of equal opportunities and the right to an inclusive citizenship through actions brought by public and private. She is currently working for COSPE on projects related to migration, interculturalism, playful pedagogy and social research. At the same time she continues gaining more experience in the educational-teaching area while teaching Italian as a second language as her continues cooperation with the CEFAL, institution for professional training for the Province of Bologna.

2 Gustavo Gozzi At first he has studied J.Habermas' works, which he has dedicated a book to, whose title is Linguaggio, Stato, Lavoro. Jürgen Habermas: teoria e ideologia, La Nuova Italia, Firenze Afterwards he has analysed the system theory of Niklas Luhmann. Subsequently he has studied the relation between the Welfare State and the Rechtsstaat in Germany and in Italy between the 19th and the 20th centuries. Furthermore he has analysed the problem of the crisis of the theory of the State during the age of Weimar considering above all the question of the relation between politics and constitutional law and referring particularly to the works of R.Smend. On this subject he has written the book Modelli politici e questione sociale in Italia e in Germania fra Otto e Novecento, Il Mulino, Bologna Afterwards he has worked on the constitutional theory of democracy and on the theories of fundamental rights in Germany from the Rechtsstaat to the constitutional democracy. The result of these researches is the volume Democrazia e diritti. Germania: dallo Stato di diritto alla democrazia costituzionale, Laterza, Roma-Bari Developments in constitutionalism in postwar Europe, and more widely, the establishment of human rights from jus gentium to international law, are currently being investigated. At present his researches regard also the origins of the clash of civilizations in the perspective of western political thought. Moreover he analyses the history and philosophy of international law in order to clarify how the international law has contributed, from modern age to present time, to develop and sustain the western colonial project towards other civilizations and cultures. In this perspective he has published the book Diritti e civiltà. Storia e filosofia del diritto internazionale, Il Mulino, Bologna The question of multiculturalism too in contemporary societies is a theme of his research. Gustavo Gozzi is full professor of History of political doctrines in the Faculty of Preservation of Cultural Heritage of Bologna University. In the Faculty of Political Sciences he has been professor of General Theory of Law and of Theory of the State. He has been also professor of Multiculturalism and cultural relativism in the Faculty of Political Sciences in Bologna University. Moreover he is professor of Human Rights and History of International Law in the Faculty of Preservation of Cultural Heritage of Bologna University and in the Faculty of Political Sciences in Bologna University. In 1994 he has been visiting professor by the Faculté de Droit et des Sciences Politiques Université de Tunis III. From the academic year till the academic year he has been visiting professor in the Master's Course in Estudios Culturales Mediterraneos by Tarragona University Rovira i Virgili. In 2011 he has been visiting professor by the Marmara University in Istanbul. In the academic year he is visiting professor in the International Master in Euromediterranean Relations (Universitat Rovira I Virgili, Université Paris 8, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Université Saint-Joseph, Universitat de les Illes Balears). He is member of the review Scienza & Politica. He is member of the Advisory Board of the review Revista de Stiinte Politice si Relatii Internationale. He is fellow of the Centre Jura Gentium Centre of philosophy of International Law and global policy of Florence University. He is member of the CIRSFID Interdepartmental Centre of Research in History of Right, philosophy and sociology of Right and Legal Informatics in Bologna University. He is member of the Italian Association of Historians of Political Thought. He is member of the Council of the Interdepartmental Centre for the Sciences of Islam of Bologna University. He is member of the Scientific Committee of the Foundation Institute Gramsci. He is member of the Italian Society for Law and Literature. From 1982 to 1995 he has collaborated with the Istituto italo-germanico in Trento where he has accomplished many research projects. From 1989 to 1997 he was many times in Germany, in particular by the Institut für Õffentliches Recht and by the Max Planck Institut für europäische Rechtsgeschichte in Frankfurt/Main in order to accomplish studies and researches. He has been President of the Advanced Course in International Cooperation, Protection of Human Rights and Cultural Heritage in Mediterranean Sea and Eurasia in Bologna University Faculty of

3 Preservation of Cultural Heritage in Ravenna Campus of Bologna University. He is Director of the Master's Course in Human Rights and Humanitarian Intervention in the Faculty of Preservation of Cultural Heritage in Ravenna Campus of Bologna University. From 1994 till present time he is responsible for the Convention between Bologna University and the University of Tunis El Manar. At present he is responsible of the Centre for the Constitutional Studies, the Cultures, the Rights and the Democracies. Europe, Eurasia, Mediterranean Sea by the Department of Politics, Institutions, History of Bologna University ( He has been Representative of Bologna University by the Euromediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue among Cultures Anna Lindh. He has been Representative of Bologna University for the Mediterranean Area during the academic years He is Representative of Bologna University for the International network Unimed.Moreover he is Director of the series Democracies, Rights, Constitutions by the Publisher Il Mulino in Bologna. Bruno Riccio Bruno Riccio holds a Doctoral degree in Social Anthropology (Sussex) and is Researcher and Lecturer at the University of Bologna where he teaches Cultural Anthropology and Anthropology of Migration. He is member of two interdisciplinary doctoral programmes: Anthropology and Epistemoloty of Complexity at CeRCO of the University of Bergamo and of International Cooperation and Sustainable Development Policies at the University of Bologna. He is in the editorial boards of afriche e orienti, Mondi Migranti and the Anthropological Journal oo European Cultures. He has published extensively in edited books and scientific journals and he is the editor of books and Special Issues on the broad areas of West African Transnational Migration, Home Town Associations and Co-Development, Citizenship, Politics and Policies of Multiculturalism, Translocal and Multi-sited Ethnography, Urban Everyday Racisms and Cosmopolitanisms. He is the author of two monographs: Toubab e vu cumprà. Brambilla) Disasters, Development and Humanitarian Aid Quaderni del CE.R.CO, Guaraldi, 2011 Augusto Valeriani Augusto Valeriani is a postdoctoral research fellow at Sociology department of Università di Bologna where he lectures in Media and International Politics. Augusto is also Fellow of the Center for Global Communication Studies at Annenberg (Upenn) and of the Arab Media Centre at University of Westminster. Augusto has published many articles on journalistic culture, mass media and international politics, new media and society, with a focus on the Arab context. He is the author of three monographs: Il giornalismo arabo (The Arab Journalism, 2005), Effetto Al Jazeera (The Al Jazeera EFfect 2010) and Twitter Factor (2011). In 2009 he coedited the volume "Un Hussein alla Casa Bianca" on Arab opinions during 2008 Us Presidential Campaing. His last research on leadership, new media and social movements in the Arab Spring will be published on Sociologica Journal (Il Mulino) Bernardo Venturi Bernardo Venturi holds a Ph.D. in Political Studies at the University of Bologna. He is a Research Fellow at the University of Bologna, Director of Centro Studi Difesa Civile (CSDC) and a Lecturer at the Marist College, Florence Campus. He is committed in trainings, research, field activities and political advocacy on international cooperation, peacebuilding, codevelopment and EU foreign policy. His areas of specialisation also include: conflict sensitivity, conflict transformation, human security and the former soviet area.

4 Within the AMITIE project, he worked jointly with the University of Bologna team to the research for the Context Report and to the establishment of the Transnational Training.
