4 The Charter of Principles: Key Articles Sapienza University of Rome adopts the notion of development as common good based on the ethics of equality. Development must be pursued through programmes and interventions that take into account the specific characteristics of individual and social groups to whom they are addressed (art.1) Sapienza University of Rome emphazises the central role of research and education in the international development cooperation (art. 5) Sapienza University of Rome will develop specific strategies and promote research and education programmes stimulating the participation of the entire university community (art. 9)

7 Sapienza as Millennium University Sapienza University of Rome adopts the Millennium Development Goals ratified by the international community as the shared and agreed platform for cooperation with all countries where the gap in living conditions cannot be filled by human, technological and economic and financial means at their disposal. Consequently, Sapienza University of Rome proposes itself as a Millennium University for the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals in accordance with its own Statutes and its Charter of Principles for International Development Cooperation.
