2 Assembly Small Parts 1. Two L -bolts with washer and 9/16 th nuts fasten Drive Assembly & Lids to the top of the tank. 2. Assembly Instructions (1) READ ALL DIRECTIONS BEFORE STARTING! Attach the Motor Assembly to the table: Align the four holes in the sides of the motor assembly over the holes in the table. Insert the long bolts through the motor assembly and through the table, as show in Figures 2 and 3. 4 (2) Attach tank assembly to the table see Figures 4 and 5: With the honey gate to the front of the table (the side opposite the big holes that are remnants of an earlier use of this table top) align the holes in the bottom tank rim with the pairs of J -bolt holes in the table top. One at a time, lift a side of the tank, insert the short side of the J -bolt through the hole in the bottom tank rim and lower the threaded end through the outer hole in the table top. The short inner end of the J -bolt should align into the inner hole in the table top. From under the table, place the large fender washer over the threaded end of each J - bolt and tighten the wing nut. (3) Install belt over pulleys: Loop pulley belt over small pulley at motor and then align into groove on right side of pulley as shown in Figure 6. Holding belt tight to pulley, rotate the large pulley counter-clockwise to complete installation of the belt into the pulley. Figure 6 Belt loops first over small pulley at motor. 4

5 Operation (1) WHEN OPERATING THE EXTRACTOR, BE MINDFUL TO KEEP HANDS AND OBJECTS AWAY FROM THE ROTATING CAGE INSIDE THE TANK. NEVER IMMERSE THE UNCAPPING KNIFE IN WATER JUST SCRUB, RINSE & WIPE! (2) Before placing any frames into the extractor check for proper operation. Place the speed switch in Slow position and turn the extractor On. The frame cage should spin smoothly, with no clanging. Change the speed to Fast. There should be minimal vibration in the table, which is a sign of an unbalanced load at the frame basket. (3) Always strive to maintain a balanced load in the frame cage. a. Always place the top bar of the frame to the same side of the frame cage, and place frames in the center of each side of the frame cage. b. Select pairs of frames of approximately the same weight, and load them in opposite positions in the frame cage. c. Too much vibration and a walking table is a sign of an unbalanced load run at slow speed on both sides until most of the honey is out of the frames, and then run at high speed to complete the extraction. (4) Start each set of frames on slow speed for 2-3 minutes; flip the frames and spin the other side on slow speed for 2-3 minutes. When the frames are lighter on both sides, switch to high speed for 5-10 minutes on each side to complete the extraction. (5) Keep the spigot open and allow honey to drain as you extract. Excess honey in the bottom of the tub will slow the spinning, strain the motor and whip bubbles into your honey. (6) Extracting Tips a. Keep your honey supers in a warm location, and extract in a warm location warmer honey flows easier. b. Allow your honey to flow through a sieve into a food-grade bucket to help remove wax and other particles as you extract. c. As you extract, cover the honey gate, sieve and bucket with a clean towel to help keep dust out but frequently check the honey level in the sieve and bucket to avoid wasting your honey on the floor! d. When you ve completed extracting your frames, prop the back edge of the table up to help the honey flow out. Unplug the extractor and remove the frame cage per instructions below and use a soft scraper on the sides and bottom of the tank to salvage that last bit of honey. 5

6 Disassembly and Cleaning If you think you can adequately clean the extractor without removing the Frame Cage, you can t. Be kind to the next user. Fully disassemble the extractor and clean it thoroughly. (1) The goal of cleaning is to remove every trace of honey and wax from all extractor parts and surfaces. Wipe the motor and cord with a damp cloth. (2) NEVER IMMERSE THE UNCAPPING KNIFE IN WATER JUST SCRUB & RINSE. Thoroughly remove all traces of wax and scorch from the uncapping knife, after it cools, with the thin green scrubbing pad. A little scouring powder can help. Wipe the cord with a wet cloth. (3) To clean the extractor, choose a location where the tank and Frame Cage can be sprayed with water to rinse thoroughly a large sink, clean concrete or in a shower. (4) The cleaning kit in a paper or mesh bag (which allows tools to dry rather than mold) includes a. An approximately 4 x6 scrubbing pad with handle for the tub sides; b. A thinner green scrubbing pad for stubborn wax spots, and the hot knife used with a little Barkeepers Friend or other scouring powder, you can get the knife as clean as new. c. A toothbrush good for cleaning the bottom inside rim, inside the center plastic bushing and inside honey gate of the tank. d. A scrubbing brush with a handle for cleaning smaller parts of the Radial Reel. (5) BE SURE TO THOROUGHLY RINSE ALL SOAP FROM ALL PARTS AND WIPE DRY. Disassembly (1) UNPLUG THE EXTRACTOR & close the honey gate! (2) Rotate the pulley belt off the large extractor pulley like you rotated it on. (3) (Delay this step until later if you want to scrape the tank and drain out more honey) Remove the wing nuts from the J -bolts under the table and set them aside with the large fender washers for cleaning. Lift each side of the tank to remove the J -bolts from the table, and set them aside. Take the extractor tub off the table and set on the floor to make it easier to work with. (4) Using a 9/16 wrench. Loosen and remove the two nuts on the top of the tank that hold the tank covers and Drive Assembly (the part with the large pulley, gears, and steel bar) to the tank. Set the tank covers aside for cleaning. Remove the L -bolts from either side of the tank upper rim and set aside for cleaning. (5) Using a 5/16 wrench, loosen the square head bolt that holds the Frame Cage to the drive shaft. Lift the Drive Assembly to pull the drive shaft out of the Frame Cage, and set aside for cleaning. (6) Lift the Frame Cage out of the tank. (7) Use a silicone kitchen scraper to scrape honey remnants from the side of the tank, place back on the table to drain the last bits of honey from the tank. Prop the table to tilt slightly and help the honey to drain. Use the scraper to push honey toward the frame gate. 6

7 Prepare the Extractor for Transport 1. Confirm that all parts are clean, dry and free of sticky and PRESENT. 2. Apply a little white food-grade grease to the pivot shaft at the bottom of the Frame Cage. Place the Frame Cage back in the Tank, with care that the pivot shaft mates properly with the bearing holder at the bottom of the tank. 3. Reassemble the Frame Cage drive shaft into the Drive Assembly, being sure to tighten the square-head set bolt. Attach the Tank covers on top of the Tank and tighten in place with the 9/16 nuts on the L -bolts on top of the Drive Assembly bar. 4. Place the two (2) long J -bolts, fender washers and wing nuts, and the four (4) Motor Attachment Bolt sets with washers and wing nuts in the assembly parts baggie. 5. After cleaning all the sticky from the motor assembly & cord, coil up the cord in the motor assembly for transport. 7
