2 Getting Started There are lots of different ways you can fundraise for your challenge the important thing is to let everyone know about the great cause you are fundraising for and to enjoy yourself! Please be mindful that with some challenges part of the monies raised will cover costs of the event so do make donors aware of this fact when fundraising. With a bit of creativity, energy and determination you will easily be able to reach your fundraising target - but why not start easy?! Set up a giving page as soon as you are booked onto your challenge and share on all social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram shout about the amazing event you are doing and get everyone around you as excited about your challenge as you are! We have listed some tips that should get you on your way to reaching your fundraising target. 3 Fundraising Ideas Dinner Night/Coffee Morning Arrange an evening for friends, family or colleagues to come to your house for dinner and charge them for a meal cooked by you! Alternatively, open your house up and have friends and family over for a bring and buy cake sale and coffee morning. Theme/Game Night Organise a night for friends to come to your house for an evening full of fun games, such as a murder mystery or quiz, and charge 5 per person. Collections Pop in to your local pub or corner shop and leave a donations box there and people can leave their spare change for your cause! Charity Ball Put on the ultimate fundraising spectacular! Have a themed, fancy dress or black tie ball and charge your guests for tickets. Why not host a raffle at the ball too - contact different companies and see if they would like to donate anything to your cause! Sporting Events Put on a swimathon, football tournament, dance challenge, sports day any challenge you enjoy! Charge teams or individuals to enter and bring along everyone else to watch the fun!

4 Fundraising Ideas Pub Quiz or Bingo Night Lots of venues won t charge you for hiring a room why not host a fun quiz or bingo night and charge people for entry? Leave collection pots on the tables for any loose change! These prove to be really fun evenings that help you raise lots of money for your cause! Dress Down Day/Theme Days Make the most of holidays/special occasions in the office why not arrange a fancy dress day for Halloween or a Christmas Jumper day in December and charge everyone 2? Or arrange a bake-off, get people to bring in their creations and ask for a donation towards a slice of cake! Car Boot Sales Dig out all of those old clothes and unwanted treasures and organise a car boot or jumble sale. Sweepstake Organise a sweepstake for a current event or television show. Who will win the Eurovision/X Factor/Grand National /World Cup - the possibilities are endless! Bag Pack Lots of supermarkets are happy for you to help pack shopping and ask each shopper for a small donation for helping!

5 Points To Remember Whilst raising funds for your event you will obviously want to stay on the right side of the law - here's some tips to make sure that you do: If you are organising a raffle please remember that: Tickets may NOT be sold by under 16's You need to apply to your local authority or council for a license for any public lottery or raffle. If it is a private event, for example if the tickets are sold to members of a private club or only your work colleagues, then a license is not required. Events that involve music and dancing: If this event is deemed by the local authority to be for charity then they should provide the license required free of charge. The sale of alcoholic beverages: You will need permission for alcohol to be sold at any event under the Licensing (Occasional Provisions) Act. It is possible for a local Landlord to apply for the license for you and then run the bar at your event. Flyers, posters, leaflets etc: It is very important that the your charity's Charity Registration Number appears on all printed documents and that you ask their permission before using their logo. Rules for collecting money: The legal minimum age for collecting money is 16, although in London it is 18 years of age. In order to make a collection in a private area, for example, your local shopping centre or supermarket, then you will need the permission of the owner. In order to make a street collection you will need to contact your local authority for a license and be prepared to submit a final total. And most importantly: Your safety is paramount. Most charities will recommend that you do NOT raise money for your event by collecting on the street. Please do not do anything unsafe or illegal everything you do will reflect on the charity and their reputations are very important to them. If in doubt ask their permission first When holding events in public areas please make sure you are covered by the local authority public liability insurance and that you have the appropriate licences. Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice The Institute of Fundraising is an organisation whose objective is to promote the highest standards in fundraising in the UK. As part of this mission they have produced a code of practice which all event organisers and charities are encouraged to adhere to. This code of practice covers various aspects of event organisation including consideration to local residents, impact on the environment, gaining all necessary permissions and other organisational and fundraising matters. Experienced charity event organisers will adhere to these codes to ensure successful events for all those involved. Sensible and responsible events are the practice of good event organisers.
