2 Logo And Branding Logos are a critical aspect of business marketing. As the company s major graphical representation, a logo anchors a company s brand and becomes the single most visible manifestation of the company within the target market. For this reason, a well-designed logo is an essential part of any company s overall marketing strategy. Corporate logos are intended to be the «face» of a company: They are graphical displays of a company s unique identity, and through colors and fonts and images they provide essential information about a company that allows customers to identify with the company s core brand. Logos are also a shorthand way of referring to the company in advertising and marketing materials; they also provide an anchor point for the various fonts, colors and design choices in all other business marketing materials. Design Principles Good logos should be unique and comprehensible to potential customers. Although there are myriad choices for color, visual elements and typography, in general a logo should help convey some information about the company, or be designed in a way that gives some sense of meaning about the company or its industry. For example, cutting-edge firms and tech companies tend to have angular logos to convey speed, while service-oriented firms have rounded logos to provide a sense of service and trust. 2

3 Basics Corporate Identities Basically, corporate and brand identities are an expression and reflection of an organizations s culture, character, personality, and its products and services inspiring trust with consumers, employees, suppliers, partners and investors. In the middle of the 20th century, the development of visual identity systems became mainstay in almost all branding initiatives. Website One of the most surprising things when you look at small businesses is how many of them don t have a website. You would think that in this day and age everybody would know how important a website is for all businesses. Clearly that is not the case. Any business that does not have a website is missing out on one of the most powerful marketing tools available to them. Brochures form an integral part of the traditional printed marketing collateral, despite the growing popularity of online marketing initiatives. A well-designed brochure is very much a collectible item, not only for its captivating visual effects, but for the loads of product-specific information featured in it. 4 Social Media To some entrepreneurs, social media marketing is the next big thing, a temporary yet powerful fad that must be taken advantage of while it s still in the spotlight. To others, it s a buzzword with no practical advantages and a steep, complicated learning curve. Because it appeared quickly, social media has developed a reputation by some for being a passing marketing interest, and therefore, an unprofitable one. The statistics, however, illustrate a different picture. According to Hubspot, %92 of marketers in 2014 claimed that social media marketing was important for their business, with %80 indicating their efforts increased traffic to their websites. And according to Social Media Examiner, %97 of marketers are currently participating in social media but %85 of participants aren t sure what social media tools are the best to use. 4

5 Flyers Advertising plays a very big role in keeping any business in business. In fact, according to experts, without good ads and good marketing, businesses cannot survive especially in a very competitive market. One can even go as far as saying that a business marketing strategy can either make or break that business. This is the reason why a business should invest on marketing and should keep in mind that ads are as important as one s sales because the former influences the latter. While there are many ways to advertise from print ads to commercials on TV or on radio to online advertisements, flyer advertisements are still one of the best ways to market a business or a product. But of course, this is not to say that other advertising methods are less effective. 5

6 SMS Campain As more brands look to target customers on the move, SMS is becoming an increasingly essential part of effective multi-channel marketing. However, with few digital marketing agencies featuring SMS as a core offering, their clients are potentially missing out on communications with customers and increased ROI. Organisations mistakenly believe that mobile marketing requires heavy investment in apps and does not allow for personalised, targeted communication and lacks strong analysis to support ROI. The reality is that access to mobile communications is far easier than perceived and gaining access to mobile consumers (smartphone and non-smartphone) can be as simple as sending a personalised, targeted text message. The means to instigate two-way SMS messaging between a company and their mobile users is essential to building a brand in households around the world provided consumer privacy is protected through legal requirements for opt-in. 6

7 Bill Boards Outdoor advertising communicates the message to the general public through highway billboards, transit posters and so on. Outdoor advertising is a very important form of advertising as the ads are huge and are visible to one and all. The important part of the advertising is that the message to be delivered should be crisp and to the point. Though images can be used, but they cannot be used in excess. Everything should be presented to the viewer in such a format so that the viewers make up their mind to buy the product or service. The message to be delivered can be an ad to buy a product, take a trip, vote for a politician, or give to a charity. According to Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA), millions of dollars are being spent on outdoor advertising each year and the figures are expected to grow. This is due to the fact that outdoor traffic keeps on growing every year and hence the target audience for outdoor advertising is ever increasing. 7

8 Booth & Events Events such as exhibitions and seminars are an important marketing tool for small businesses, enabling you to communicate with customers and prospects in an environment that you control. To create a successful event, you must follow the five essential principles of event marketing: attract the right participants, select the right venue, maximize the number of visitors, create interest and build relationships with participants and visitors. 8

9 TV Ads & Radio Television and radio adverts can deliver massive audiences to the advertiser. What s more, these are sophisticated media, offering unique creative opportunities to build atmosphere, convey emotion and fully engage the viewer or listener. However, the costs can be high and most small businesses do not have the budget for TV and movie advertising. In general, these media are best suited to large national brand names. Radio advertising, on the other hand, is both an affordable and highly effective way for small firms to drum up business. That said, both TV and cinema offer local solutions for smaller businesses. Whichever route you consider, it s essential that you base your decision on what you know about your customers and potential customers behaviour so you stand the best chance of them seeing or hearing your ad. 9
