Online registration at azcac.org SERIES I: Hands and Heart: Series I will be presented by Linda Gray, MA, LPC The first series of workshops focuses on the foundations of resiliency, principles of brain development and experiential play techniques that prepare traumatized children to manage stress, regulate their emotions and behavior and develop positive relationships. You may register for half-day or full day workshops. The morning presentation will provide a practical and theoretical foundation for understanding each principle. The afternoon presentation will make the concepts come alive through hands-on, experiential activities that can be adapted for diverse settings and across cultures. It is recommended that you register for the full day, but it is not required. The workshops are designed to benefit counselors, school psychologists, teachers, aides, parents and foster parents anyone who wants to help children with complex problems find their wings and soar! Lunch: 11:45 1:00 *There is a café at the conference site. 1B 1:00 4:00 Sensory Play to Help Regulate Stress and Arousal. In this playful, hands-on workshop you will use a variety of materials and props to create your own Brain Buddy for helping children regulate stress and then collaborate with peers to develop a plan for individual, group or classroom intervention that you can use. Nature, expressive arts and sensory play are the focus of this presentation.
2 September 25 th 2A 9:00 11:45 The Hearts Safe Place: Attachment as a Resource for Healing Trauma, Abuse and Loss in Early social, emotional and cognitive learning occurs in the context of close relationships. Workshop participants will increase their understanding of how to strengthen attachments with children. You will learn how to change the environment before you try to change the child to promote safety and positive relationships. Lunch: 11:45 1:00 * There is a café at the conference site. 2B 1:00 4:00 10 Attachment-based Play Activities for In this workshop we will continue our exploration of sensory play. Nature, music, animal therapies, expressive arts, yoga and story-telling help to forge the essential emotional connections that traumatized children need to succeed. We will use case studies and experiential activities to deepen our understanding of attachment-based play as a resource for healing trauma. October 23 rd 3A 9:00 11:45 Restoring Safety, Building Resiliency I: Responsive School Environments for Traumatized Many of the obstacles traumatized children face in the classroom result from their inability to process information, distinguish between threatening and non-threatening situations, form trusting relationships and regulate their emotions and behavior. Lunch: 11:45 1:00 * There is a café at the conference site. 3B 1:00 4:00 Restoring Safety, Building Resiliency II: Six Core Principles for Teaching Traumatized Workshop participants will learn six key teaching strategies to reduce classroom disruptions and enable traumatized children to succeed academically, behaviorally, and socially.
