1 BIOGRAPHY Jeff Cotton, MFT of Jeff Cotton Trainings has worked with children and families for 35 years. For the past 25 years, he s conducted seminars for Child Care Associations; including group homes, residential treatment programs, foster family agencies, and schools throughout the United States. He is the author of the training manual, Skillful De-escalation with Children: Approaching Fear Without Fear, certified by the state of California for group homes and residential treatment programs.

4 Professional Experience continued September 1989 June 1993 Fort Ross School, Fort Ross, CA Guidance Counselor One day a week guidance counselor for ninety children kindergarten - eighth grade at a small public school on the Northern California coast. Facilitated interactive classroom processes and conflict resolution. Provided one-to-one counseling with children. Worked with teachers, families and county agencies. Feb June 1989 Willow Creek/Victor Treatment, Santa Rosa, CA Supervisor (C-II) Team Trainer Supervisor of group home for six emotionally and behaviorally volatile children Supervised and trained treatment team of eight adult child-care workers Facilitated four therapeutic groups a week. Conducted case consultation meetings with Social Service Created Operational Treatment Plans that were implemented agency-wide. March Sept Full Circle, Sebastopol, CA Day Program Coordinator Co-created and coordinated the structure of the on-grounds school program for sixteen adolescent boys. Set therapeutic limits, daily structure and provided crisis intervention in volatile situations. Aug Dec 1978 Springfield Housing Authority, Springfield, MA Outreach Worker Contact person to over sixty families, in two low-income housing projects. Worked with single parents and problem families. Developed educational programs: weekly alcohol programs, teen rap groups and tax help. Implemented the Owl Adult Educational Program and was instrumental in the vandalized recreation center being rebuilt and reopened. Became an advocate and functioned in a Big Brother capacity to several boys. Worked over 1200 hours field practicum. Hired as a full time counselor after graduation. Job duties included individual and group counseling, outreach work, family work, testing.
