2 The Quick Installation Guide will help you to install MW300U 11N Wireless USB Adapter, including basic hardware and software installation in Windows XP, as well as configuration of wireless network availability. The Quick Installation bases on establishing an unencrypted wireless network. For detailed instructions, please refer to the User Guide in the Resource CD. A. Hardware Installation There are two ways to install the Adapter: 1. Plug the Adapter directly to the USB port on your computer. 2. Connect the Adapter and your computer through the USB cable attached in package. The LED will light up when the Adapter is installed successfully and the PC is on. B. Software Installation for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 The Setup steps for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 are similar with each other. The following instructions take Windows XP for example. 1. Insert the Resource CD into your CD-ROM drive, choose Network Adapter and open the folder named MW300U. Then double-click Setup.exe in the proper folder to start the installation. Figure 1 2. Follow the step-by-step instructions following in the continued prompted screens to complete InstallShield Wizard steps. NOTE: 1) If Windows XP warns about Windows Logo testing, click Continue Anyway to continue the installation. 2) After the Installation, or will appear at the bottom of the screen in your system tray. Otherwise, there may be some problems about the installation, please check it seriously. 1

3 C. Configure wireless connection in Windows XP with Mercury Wireless Client Utility The Adapter's tray icon signal strength indication (RSSI). If the icon is shows the signal strength using color and the received (green), a wireless connection has been established. If the icon is (gray), there is no connection. Follow the steps below to launch a wireless connection manually. 1. Double-click the icon, then the Mercury Wireless Client Utility (MWCU) will appear, you can also run the utility by clicking Start All Programs Mercury Mercury MW300U. On the prompted configuration tab page, click the Profile Management, and you will see the next screen (Figure 2). Figure 2 2. Click Scan on the screen above, and you will see a new screen (shown in Figure 3), click Refresh, then the latest available Network will appear. Figure 3 3. In the screen above, highlight a network name and click Activate, then you will see the next screen (shown in Figure 4). Enter the Client Name and SSID, and you can connect to the network. 2

Configure wireless connection in Windows XP with Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration 1. To use Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration, select Options Select Client Software on the menu of Utility shown in Figure 5. Figure 5 2. After that, you will see Figure 6. Select Windows option and click OK. Wait a minute until the screen prompt that Client software selection.. SUCCESSFUL!! and Click OK. Figure 6 3

5 3. Right-click the icon, and then select View Available Wireless Networks in the next screen (Figure 7). Figure 7 4. Then, Figure 8 will appear with many available wireless network choices. You can highlight a network and then click Connect to add to a network. NOTE: If you have not installed SP2 for Windows XP, the screens below will not be available. Figure 8 5. If the connection is finished, the icon will display like the next screen shown. Configure wireless connection in Windows Vista After the Adapter's driver has been installed, Windows Vista will display a wireless 4

6 Network Connection message. Icon (green) means the connection has been established. Icon (gray) means there is no connection. To use Windows WLAN Autoconfig to establish a connection, please follow the steps below. 1. Right-click the icon in your system tray, then click Connect to a network. Figure The following screen (shown in Figure 11) will show you available wireless networks. Highlight the one you want to join in, and then click Connect. Figure To continue, click Connect. To end the connection, click Cancel. 4. If the connection is successfully established, the following screen will appear. Click Close to finish the connection. Figure 12 5

7 F. Configure wireless connection in Windows 7 Mercury Wireless Client Utility (MWCU) is not available for Windows 7. So after the Adapter's driver has been installed, we have to use Windows WLAN Autoconfig to establish a connection. Please follow the steps below. 1. Click the icon at the bottom of your screen in your system tray and then you will see the available wireless network list. Select the SSID of your Access Point and click Connect. Figure If your wireless network is secured, you will be required to enter the security key as shown in Figure 14. Enter the passphrase, take for example. And then click OK. Figure If the key entered is correct, you will successfully connect to the network as shown in the following figure. 6

WPS configuration WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) function allows the Adapter to join a wireless network quickly. If the router supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), you can establish a wireless connection between wireless card and router using either Push Button Configuration (PBC) method or PIN method. First, the WPS software should be installed. Insert the Resource CD into your CD-ROM drive, choose Network Adapter and open the folder named MW300U. Then double-click WPS_Setup.exe in the proper folder to start the installation. Figure 13 7

9 Then, please follow the clue of the continued screens to complete the WPS installation. After that, WPS function can be enabled. Here we will introduce three ways to configure the WPS (For the configuration of WPS, here takes the Wireless Router of our company for example. For more ways of WPS configuration, please refer to the User Guide inside the CD attached in package). 1. PBC (Push Button Configuration) method Ⅰ 1) Press the WPS button on the front panel of the Router. Figure 14 2) Press and hold the WPS button on the adapter for 2 or 3 seconds. Figure 15 3) Then wait a minute until Figure 16 appears. Click Finish to complete the WPS configuration. Figure PBC (Push Button Configuration) method Ⅱ 1) Press the WPS button on the front panel of the router. 2) Double click the icon on the desktop to open the WPS Utility and then you can see the welcome screen shown as Figure 17. Click Next to continue. 8

10 Figure 17 3) Select Push the button on my access point in the next screen and click Next. Figure 18 4) Then wait a minute until Figure 16 appears. Click Finish to complete the WPS configuration. 3. PIN method 1) Double click the icon on the desktop to open the WPS Utility and you will see Figure 17. Click Next to continue. 2) Then Figure 19 will appear. Select the third option and enter the PIN value which is labeled on the bottom of the Router. Click Next. 9

11 Figure 19 3) When Figure 16 appears, the WPS configuration is complete. NOTE: If you generate a new PIN code for your router, please enter the new one instead. 10
