4 Istanbul City Sports Investment Strategy Our priorities are healthy life style, development of grassroots sports and social responsibility in sport for all. While we are applying for these priorities in our Project, people can free access to public sport facilities. Besides, Istanbul is a city that embraces sport with millions of citizens who see sports as their lifestyle. Providing services to highly dynamic and young population, sport naturally becomes a priority for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

5 Istanbul City Sports Investment Strategy Citizens enjoy exercise and the positive gains the sport brings to their lives and improve their health in our mass sport activities. Moreover, through our activities people with disabilities, disadvantaged groups are brought together among other social groups. These activities also play a role in realizing social inclusion. We organize a series of sport activities with in sport for all. Healthy Generations through the Sports Project includes various scheduled sports activities which done under the guidance of academic trainers in sports facilities free of charge.

6 Istanbul City Sports Investment Strategy Other free of charge mass sport activities is called Outdoor Healthy Sport with Academic Trainers. Citizens come together for sport every morning with this project. Another mass sport activities focus on children and young population. Winter and Summer Sports Camps offer package programs under all branches to six and fifteen age groups.

8 Istanbul City Sports Investment Strategy Our priorities are promotion of Istanbul and urban development in bidding and hosting for major sports events. Strong financial support and investment provided by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to the events. As we all know, hosting major sport events is a catalyst for major infrastructure and urban development projects such as urban transportation systems, hotels and upgrades in technology and telecominications system.

9 Istanbul City Sports Investment Strategy Also, financing major sport events and their related infrastructure is a highly capital intensive effort, so Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality support to the every major sport events in Istanbul. Besides, promotion of the city of Istanbul is performed with these major events.

10 Istanbul City Sports Investment Strategy In addition to, lots of sport events have been organised by Istanbul Sport Events in Istanbul, and more than forty thousands athletes and more than two millions spectators attends in our events. Besides, promotion of the city of Istanbul is performed with these major events. We host of many national and international sport events every year.

14 Istanbul s Olympic Master Plan Istanbul 2020 bid is very important for the people of Istanbul, people of Turkey and people of the region. Most of the infrastructures are being built regardless of the Games. For example, a sports complex in the Olympic City Cluster, which we call as the Olympic Training Center is being built as a center for the Elite Athlete Program of Turkey.

15 Istanbul s Olympic Master Plan This complex will have 4 multipurpose indoor halls (total of 30,000 spectators) and a Sports Academy. Others venues are also being built because of the needs of a city of 13 million, regardless of the outcome of the bid.

16 Istanbul s Olympic Master Plan There will be different levels of development in the four different zones. The biggest and most important development will be in the Haydarpasa Port area. The existing shipping port will be converted into green zone, a much needed recreation area by the sea, for the Anatolian side of Istanbul. This project is being done regardless of the outcome of the bid.

17 Istanbul s Olympic Master Plan In the Forest Zone existing stone quarries will be filled and the green areas will be regenerated for sports like Mountain Biking and White Water Canoe and Kayak.

18 Istanbul s Olympic Master Plan In the Olympic City Zone, existing military area in Esenler will be converted into a Golf course and an Equestrian Center which will serve the public of Istanbul after the games. Other venues in this zone, like Aquatics or Gymnastics Venues will serve the Turkish athletes and public in Legacy mode. Our final zone, the Coastal Zone, will have an indoor velodrome built for the Games, however the remaining venues will exist or temporary.

25 Challanges of Bidding for Major Events Cost Overruns Major sports events are always over the budget. For the 50 years, overruns have averaged 179 percent because of infrastructure and investment. It is substantially impossible to know the true cost the city of hosting a major sports event, and many of those extra costs are criticised by public. Moreover, a lot of host cities had to revised up to the budget in past, and most of this money came directly from the government budget

26 Challanges of Bidding for Major Events The Future of Sporting Venues The future trends for sports infrastructures in big cities will be not require a huge amount of money for maintenance and repair. Also, sports facilities capacity will be changeable with temporary seating and they could be recycled in other cities or regions.

Also, some of the Olympic Venues could be recycled in other cities. Besides, temporary seating structures were added on either side in aquatic centre in order to increase capacity for the games. When these structures removed the capacity will be reduced, and people can use the centre after the Games.

The biggest question is How the Olympic Venues will use after the games? A lot of stadium precious little content to bring in revenue yet still costs millions to maintain and repair them. Host cities try to avoid white elephants. Hence, the sports facilities should be used multipurpose business model.

Security budgets for mega sports ever rise up billions of dollars. Various risks and security strategies are specific to different mega sports events including terrorist threats, spectator violent and urban crime. Hosting cities have to work very hard to avoid possible security threats.
