3 1 Online Storage - general 1.1 What is UPC Online Storage? UPC Online Storage is a smart storage solution for your personal assets - your personal hard drive on the Internet. Secure storage where virtually nothing can get to your precious files and all of this without the worry of losing or damaging a piece of hardware. It is the best alternative to other storage devices. UPC Online Storage gives you peace of mind: Better security o Designed with Security in Mind o UPC Online Storage data is securely stored in a remote location. It's like insurance for all your important files (Don't lose them. Protect them). Secure your digital assets This UPC Online Storage online service allows subscribers to store their data in a safe and secure environment. The Online Storage service is backed up regularly so that the subscriber is sure that whatever is stored to this space he/she will be able to retrieve at a later time Access your digital assets Anywhere Anytime Music, photos, files. At home or wherever. UPC Online Storage lets you more securely and easily access your important files whenever and wherever you need them most using the Web or Desktop. Choose the method that fits the way you work or use both depending on your needs. There are 2 main user interfaces: Web Access Powerful web application designed for your web browser. Local Computer Access (Virtual Local Drive) small software application that allows you to access your files through Windows Explorer. 3

4 Web based user interface The web based user interface is extremely easy to use (learn) and looks similar to the windows explorer. The subscriber only needs to have a web browser and an internet connection to be able to use this interface. 5 Virtual local drive interface A small client application that is downloaded and installed at the subscribers computer(s) that enables an extra mapped (network) drive in the windows explorer that the subscriber uses similar to an office environment network drive. Using this software client the subscriber can perform all his copy/rename/move operations within the windows explorer, even drag & drop. The Virtual Local drive client application can be obtained through the Web based interface. 4 Virtual Local Drive Photo Album features with UPC Online Storage Easy to use photo album features allow your pictures to create long lasting memories in organized web photo albums. 6 Photo Album features The photo album functionality enables you to rotate and resize the picture files within the album but still preserving the original files in an unchanged status. tag your photo s, adding more recognizable names or descriptions. preview your photo album either in Thumbnail, Filmstrip or in Detail (File view). share your albums easily with individuals or groups Simple and Easy to Use With just a few clicks, you can insure your pictures are added to an Online Photo Album for easier access and viewing pleasures for you and your friends and family. Step 1: Drag the photos you want to upload into the virtual local disk drive of your UPC Online Storage (alternatively you may use the upload facilities of the web interface Step1a or Step1b) Step 2: Assign the photo s that you want to a new Photo Album Step 3: Preview the Photo Album in a Filmstrip view Step 4: Press the share button if you want to share this album with your friends or family Notes Step 1a: If you prefer the web interface you can use the upload button to upload pictures. If you use the default Java uploader you may select multiple files/pictures for the upload Step 1b: If you prefer the web interface you can use the upload button to upload pictures. If you use the classical html uploader you may select only one file/picture for the upload Steps 2-4 are only available in the web user interface Share the Memories. Share the Fun. UPC Online Storage Photo Album makes it easy to share your photos and photo albums with friends and family. Once you've created that special memory with pictures, share it with your loved ones. Simply share the photo album by clicking the share icon next to the album enter address(es) of the designated recipient(s) and they will get an with a link right to the photo album. With UPC Online Storage Photo Album special sharing features, you can even let them share the fun with others, but you remain in total control since you can also decide to stop the sharing a photo album or file Sharing UPC Online Storage is about the easiest way to share files and folders more securely on the Web. You can share your files at your UPC Online Storage in 4 simple steps: Step 1: Select the folder, file, photo or photo album to share 6

7 Step 2: Click the Share button/icon (while photo s you can protect the share also with username and password) 6 Step 1 & 2 Step 3: Navigate to the Shared Files folder (or Shared Photos folder for Photo albums) Step 4: Click on the mail button and your default client is started with a link towards your share just enter the recipients addresses and you are done. 7 Step 3 & 4 Note: Sharing features and photo album features are available only in the web browser interface You can stop the sharing at any time by navigating to the Shared Files folder and to click on the stop sharing button Send a File That Won't Bounce With UPC Online storage, sharing files is as easy as clicking a button. No worries about viruses or adware that can be issues with Peer-To-Peer networking. You decide who's invited. You choose who can view designated folders stored in your UPC Online Storage. You can also decide to stop the sharing. You can also set a username and password protection on your Photos or Photo Album. 7

8 1.3 UPC Online Storage Tips: Make Life Easier with advanced tools like Virtual Local Drive & Upload manager Virtual Local Drive - Desktop Software Download the Virtual Local Drive desktop software and integrate UPC Online Storage seamlessly with your computer just like an external hard drive! Drag and drop files and entire folders directly into your account. The downloadable Virtual Local Drive software application is available through your Web access interface to UPC Online Storage. You have to download and install it only once to your PC or laptop (you can install it on all your PCs where you want to use it). The Desktop Software is suitable for MS Windows 2000/NT4/XP/Vista and has the features you need: Access UPC Online Storage through Windows Explorer Drag and drop folders and files Open and save files directly from applications 8 Virtual Local Drive application Obtaining the Virtual Local Drive software application The small software package that is needed for the Virtual Local Drive can be obtained through the web interface. Click on the Windows Client link on the top navigation bar 9 Top Navigation Bar This will present the following section where you can download the client application. The client application needs to have a username/password combination in order to be functional. The username is fixed for a user and displayed on this page. The Password can be set on this page. The password can be also reset here if you have forgotten your password. 8

9 10 Windows Client page Upload manager The power of simple uploading - If you are not using the Virtual Local Drive or you are currently accessing the Internet and your UPC Online Storage account via an alternative PC (someone else s PC/ Internet café, no install rights, etc), you can use the upload manager which is included within the UPC Online Storage Web access. The dynamic capabilities of UPC Online Storage upload manager let you upload single or multiple files or even whole folders at once. You can upload your files to UPC Online Storage in 3 simple steps: Step 1: Click on the Upload Button in the UPC Online Storage toolbar icon Step 2: Select Files or Folders to Upload Step 3: Click the Start Upload Button The upload progress bar shows the progress of the initiated upload 11 Upload Manager with progress bar 9
