It provides the students opportunities to observe, implement and evaluate educational practices in a quality early childhood facility. Yes No If yes, identify: _X Yes No If yes, identify the college, subject, prefix, number, and title: Writing Across the Curriculum Rationale: Mohave Community College firmly supports the idea that writing can be used to improve education; students who write in their respective content areas will learn more and retain what they learn better than those who don t. Courses in the core curriculum have been identified as Writing Across the Curriculum courses. Suggested minimum standards for the Writing Across the Curriculum component are as follows: 1. The writing assignments should total words. For example, a single report which is 1500 words in length could fulfill the requirement, or a series of essay questions and short papers (example: four -375 word assignments) which total 1500 words could meet the requirement. 2. The writing component will represent at least 10% of a student s final grade in the course. Is this a course identified as a Writing Across the Curriculum course? Demonstrate skills in observing and analyzing children's activities, ideas, and interests as a means for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum
4 3. Analyze and explain the role of environment in developmentally appropriate curriculum 4. Demonstrate skills and professionalism in new role as teacher 5. Demonstrate increased understanding of child development through observations and practical research 6. Appreciate and accommodate the range of skills among young children 7. Use knowledge of how children develop and learn to provide opportunities that support the overall development of young children Competency 1 Adapt to a community-based early childhood setting.(outcome 4) Objective 1.1 Develop familiarity with the policies and procedures of an early childhood education program. Objective 1.2 Establish effective communication with staff, children and parents. Objective 1.3 Function as a cooperative and responsible team member. Competency 2 Promote positive functioning of children in a group setting.(outcome 5) Objective 2.1 Use positive guidance techniques. Objective 2.2 Redirect children as needed. Objective 2.3 Begin to use flexibility in guidance of individual children. Competency 3 Build positive self-concepts and individual strengths in children.(outcome 1,7) Objective 3.1 Assess developmental levels of children in a group. Objective 3.2 Recognize various levels of self-esteem shown by children. Objective 3.3 Respond to the needs of children. Competency 4 Fulfill the responsibilities related to children's program. (outcome 4)

Objective 4.3 Carry out normal daily routines according to program supervisors. Competency 5 Present and evaluate curriculum activities to meet individual and group needs of children.
