4 Policy Framework in Aalborg The transport policy in Aalborg is based on the principles of Sustainability 1) Aalborg Commitments (2004) 2) Municipality Master Plan, revised every fourth year (next in 2009) 3) Local strategy for Sustainable Development (2003, 2008) 4) Climate Strategy Plan (2009)
5 Corresponding plans: Action Plan for Traffic and Environment (1994, 1999, 2005, 2009), Road Development Plan, Traffic Safety Plan, Cycling Plan, ITS Plan, Public Transport Plan, Parking Strategy Noise Strategy
6 1) Aalborg Commitments 1. Reduce the necessity for private motorised transport and promote attractive alternatives. 2. Increase the share of journeys made by public transport, on foot and by bicycle. 3. Encourage transition to low-emission vehicles. 4. Develop an integrated and sustainable urban mobility plan. 5. Reduce the impact of transport on the environment and public health.
7 2) The Municipality Master Plan To create a coherent, secure road and path network To prioritise environment friendly modes of transportation Improve conditions for the collective transport Work to make Aalborg one of the safest municipalities for traffic
8 3) Local strategy for Sustainable Development Accessibility for the public transport must be improved to advance the use of the public transport where environmentally and socioeconomically reasonable CO2 neutral fuels for the city buses (bio-gas, natural gas, hydrogen or 2nd generation bio diesel) have preference Emission of CO2 from transport must as a minimum be reduced to counter the national objectives
9 One way to fulfil the objectives is through European projects. Since 1993, The city of Aalborg has participated in 10 European transport projects, inclusive CEDM Various measures have been implemented within a wide range of categories
