The Arc of Volusia was chartered by the State of Florida on March 23, 1962 and serves approximately 250 Volusia County adults with developmental disabilities. The Deland and Daytona Beach training centers each serve about 100 individuals and feature Adult Day Training Level I, a self-help skill acquisition program for individuals with intense needs, Adult Day Training Level II, which includes work skill development and sheltered workshop programs, and Community Inclusion, a small group community participation program. Additionally, the Supported Employment and Supported Living programs emphasize individuals integrating into the community at competitive job sites and in their own homes serve a combined fifty participants. Application procedure for site: The student will participate in the general hiring process as an employee would with Arc. The student will complete an application, interview, TB test, background screening, finger printing, drug testing, orientation, and policy review. Special considerations or needs of site:

5 5 Individuals participate in a 1-1, 1-3, 1-5, or 1-10 staff to client ratio based on their special needs. The facility is ADA approved. The population is generally mentally retarded with multiple disabilities. Hours of Operation: Mon-Fri: 8 a.m. 5 p.m. Internships can be either one or two semesters.

The ARF is a Marchman facility, accepting involuntary as well as voluntary clients. Men and women over 18. Individual, crisis, and group counseling is offered. Clients typically have cooccurring mental health disorders as well as substance use disorders. Interns would have the opportunity to observe and evaluate individuals with multiple problems and issues. Average length of stay is 6-9 months. Individual, group, and family counseling is provided. Many of the clients have trauma and abuse issues, as well as significant legal, family, educational, and social problems. Therapeutic model includes emphasis on motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy. Experiential therapy (ropes course) is an integral part of the treatment program. CENTAUR gives interns an opportunity to work with individuals with multiple mental health, substance abuse, and medical problems. Many of the clients are of the GLBT population. Website: Description of site and clients: The purpose of the Domestic Abuse Council, Inc. is to provide emergency shelter, victim advocacy, transitional housing, support/education groups for victims, information and referral services, case management, residential and community programs for child witnesses of domestic violence, family intervention programs for the abusive partner, legal advocacy, community education and professional training. From website: The Domestic Abuse Council, Inc. has one emergency shelter in Daytona Beach and an intake/outreach center in DeLand. Due to the nature of the problems our residents face, the actual location is kept confidential. The shelter is heavily secured and staffed 24-hours per day.

The Three Springs programs have two components with 33 beds for highrisk adolescents and 16 beds for moderate-risk adolescents, for a total of 49 beds on site. The core program is a competency-based level system integrating behavioral and clinical objectives, skill building, and task completion. The Daytona Beach facility has a staff of 47 full-time employees including qualified employees for clinical and medical services, support services, and direct care. Staff members at all levels are full participants in an interdisciplinary treatment team approach to address individualized needs, offer guidance and assistance in goal completion, and monitor youth progress towards successful transition of the youth to his family and the community. When medical treatments can no longer cure a disease, VITAS team of hospice professionals still can do a great deal to control pain, reduce anxiety and offer needed spiritual and emotional support to patients and their families. Hospice services are provided wherever people with life-limiting illness reside and could benefit from hospice care: Patients homes 24 dedicated inpatient hospice units Hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living communities and residential care facilities VITAS services are coordinated with the patient s physician and provided during regularly scheduled visits by hospice team members to manage the patient s care. If a crisis should arise, VITAS is able to respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week. VITAS also provides a continuum of other palliative services to complement traditional hospice care, helping patients and families clarify their care goals and achieve comfort and symptom relief.
