Alcohol/Substance Abuse Alcoholics Anonymous Various Locations Telephone: (325) AA is an organization of people who want to share their experiences and help others recover from alcoholism. Membership is free. In the San Angelo area, there are 12 meeting places, 6 of which are Spanish speaking. One location has a meeting every night. The eligibility policy for childcare at the nursery states that each parent must work at least 30 hours a week or be enrolled as a fulltime student. Cost is based on income and ranges from $55 to $108 weekly. In addition to the workout facilities, after school day camps are offered at the YMCA. Children ages 5-12 are allowed to attend. The YMCA also offers day camps on school holidays during the summer. Monthly fees start at $160. 4

The program is offered through Hospice of San Angelo. Two six week sessions are offered annually for children in grades K-12. Individual grief support is also offered. Magdalen Hours: By appointment only Telephone: (325) Website: The Concho Valley Rape Crisis Center is a non-profit agency that offers counseling and a 24-hour hotline to survivors and victims of sexual assault. Also offered are education and prevention services that will be tailored to an individual group. Healthy Families is a home-based support program designed to promote healthy child development and enhance family functioning in over-burdened families of newborns. Initial contact is made in the hospital, and intervention is continues for up to three years. Samaritan Counseling is a non-profit agency that provides basic outpatient mental health services to the citizens of the Concho Valley. They offer individual therapy, family therapy, couple counseling, anger management classes, pre-marital counseling, and others. Self-referrals are welcome. Counseling is available for ages 4 and up. 5

This is not a shelter. DFPS should be called when abuse is happening or suspected. CPS can place children in foster care. The person making the report, if the report is provided in good faith, is immune from civil or criminal liability. The Children s Advocacy Center serves as an ally for abused children. The center works with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Hope House to provide protective services to abused or neglected Children. Hope House provides a safe environment for children who are brought in for the interview process upon making an outcry of abuse or neglect. Services include interviews of child abuse victims, assistance with victim services, court accompaniment, counseling referrals, and criminal justice support. Life Bridge offers emergency shelter and food for up to 90 days for victims of abuse. It is a high-security environment that provides: emergency transportation, classes for residents, support groups, children s activities, and laundry facilities. Counseling and other outreach is available for nonresidential victims. 6

CIA also provides services to those in need of help meeting rent costs, buying food and clothing, paying for utilities and medication, and finding transportation. Goodwill accepts cash, checks, Mastercard, and Visa. Rust Street Ministries provides temporary assistance with clothes, food, household items, and furniture. Those in need can receive furniture and appliances once a year, clothes for a family twice a year, and food for a week 4 times a year. *This organization also provides anger management courses and a substance abuse plan. 7

Bigs and Littles can share in many kinds of activities together for just a few hours every month. Kids involved in the program are more confident, do better in school, and are less likely to get involved in the use of drugs and alcohol. 10
