European history In 2006 celebrated 60 th anniversary (founded in 1946). All major achievements are listed below. With all great results in history, Celje begun with European performances in 1992 in a pre-round of European Champions Cup where they were knocked out by the former as well as new European champion Zagreb. Next season Celje finished up in the Champions League (7 th 8 th place) and in had two poorer European seasons where they were eliminated in a second round of the Champions Cup (Zagreb and Veszprem). In 1996/97 they have played in a first semi final against actual European champion Barcelona and lost by a goal (home defeat -5, victory in Barcelona +4). Also next four seasons ended in semi finals (twice against Barcelona, Zagreb, Portland San Antonio), and in 2001/02 in ¼ finals against Magdeburg. Since in 2002 Celje lost a home trophy against Prule Ljubljana, next European season started in European Cup winner s cup and reached semi finals where they lost against later champion Ciudad Real. Celje s greatest success came in 2003/04, when became European champion and later that year European super champion. In that season Celje has been faced with a thirteen goal defeat in 1/8 finals first leg match in Ademar Leon. The return match was also an opening of a new sports hall named Zlatorog (Goldhorn, brand of Pivovarna beer). That was probably the greatest opening of all times. Celje won by thirteen and secured a place in quarter finals where they defeated Lemgo. In semi finals they defeated Ciudad Real and in the finals Flensburg Handewitt. Season 2004/05 started with a Supercup title (in Ciudad Real Celje defeated home team in semi final and THW Kiel in the final). Later that season Celje played EHF Champions league semi finals against Barcelona and lost. Since then results of Celje went down a little bit (2005 / 06 ¼ finals, 2006/07 1/8 finals, 2007/08, 2008/09 Champions League Main round). 20 Years of Cooperation with Pivovarna On 17th September 2010 we will celebrate 20 years since Pivovarna had signed the first two-year contract on general sponsorship with the Handball Club Celje. With the contract signatures began the most successful period of otherwise quite rich Celje history of handball. That was the period in which no other sports team in Slovenia could exceed in performance. Rokometni klub Celje Pivovarna and its logotype capricorn handballer, ascended the European summit and remained invincible on the home territory during a long period of time. In July 2009 we have signed new four year contract with Pivovarna Group.

4 4. Arena Zlatorog Hall Celje was one of the organizers of the 2004 European Championship. On October 3rd 2002 the members of parliament Celje decisively voted in favor of construction of a new sports hall. The foundation stone was laid on April 16th and construction was completed in December On this day the Zlatorog sports hall became the home of the handball players of. The new Zlatorog sports hall facilitates a vicious atmosphere for the visitors, making it possible for the handball of Celje and Slovenia to achieve the greatest feat of Slovenian handball history within the first game season: The title of the European Champion in the Champions League! Main companions on European matches are Florijani fan group that usually gets help from numerous fans from all over Slovenia. In April 2005 Dr. Stane Pinter, deputy Fair Play Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, presented a special written recognition for fair play to Igor Šolman, the president of Florijani. The fans, headed by Florijani, represented the 8th player of Celje Pivovarna and considerably contributed to the success of the Club. ( all the way to the grave ).

6 7. City of Celje Celje with its inhabitants is situated on southeastern part of Savinja-valley. In the first century b.c., the Celts settled down under Miklavski hill and after them always new, interesting immigrants, which have created rich history of Celje. Celje is just another small provincial town, the kind you pass trough everywhere in Central Europe. True, perhaps. Central European towns are all fairly similar, after all. In their outward appearance, their urban planning and architecture, in their exemplary order and in the mentality of their inhabitants. But they can also be very different. Celje too, the»white and bright«town, is similar to these towns, but at the same time it differs significantly from them. Not simply because of its marvelous surroundings, which provide constantly new inspiration to artists, but perhaps because of its rich history. A history which is not a burden, but which inspires. A history which is always providing fresh surprises. In general the word Celje does not trigger an avalanche of associations in the way that established tourist centers do, but at the same it does have some associations. Memories are continually conjured at least of the Celje counts and the heart-rending tale of the star-crossed love between Friderik and Veronika, and in just a moment we can also picture the potent image of the old castle high above the town on the Savinja river. Celje has its own mark, its historical memory and with- in this it holds moments of magnificent glory and power, as will as having a full life today, complete with everything a true town should have: a theatre, galleries and concerts, monuments, hotels and restaurants, parks, churches, shopping centers, pigeons. We invite you on a tour of The old castle, which reminds us on the importance of the Counts of Celje (after 1436 Princes) in central European area, a visit of the city centre and many hidden curiosities on our nearby surroundings.
