3 Finnish space history Finland has been in space for 4,5 billion years. Space science Long prehistory in science E.g. German Azur-spacecraft s ground stations at Kevo in the 1960, s PhD thesis in late 1950 s Mayday 1985 started the first ever spacecraft science instrument project in Finland ASPERA at FMI for Russian Phobos - through Sweden this was also the starting point of Finnish space industry AD ASTRA PER ASPERA Phobos Mars-96/Metegg Several NASA JPL Mars landers

14 From Radioastron via ESA s Planck s 66 GHz receivers to six SAR-radars for Earth Observation satellites Russian Radioastron was launced in 2012 without the Finnish 22 GHz instrument developed by Ylinen Electronics ( ).
