PROCEDURE OF FUNCTIONALITY CHECK AND CALIBRATION INTRODUCTORY NOTE The GIBITRE Instruments dynamometer has been projected and according to ASTM D 412, ISO 2285 and UNI Instrument calibration is made using calibration instruments referring to primary references which are certified by an accredited centre. The precision of the instruments used is fit to guarantee the GIBITRE Instrument reported precision. TABLES 3 and 4 show the list of used instruments and the primary references whose certificates are enclosed. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS The calibration, in relation to the stability of the used reference standards instruments, must be considered valid for temperature within 18 C and 28 C; for temperature out of this range the validity of the calibration must be checked by the customer. Relative humidity does not influence the validity of the calibration in a considerable way. FUNCTIONAL CHECKS Before the calibration some functional checks are made. LIMIT-SWITCHES CHECKS The safety limit-switches are checked so that when the cross-head get them the machine stops. EMERGENCY PUSH-BUTTON CHECK The emergency push-button is checked so that when the operator press it the power supply is cut. CALIBRATIONS LOAD CELL CALIBRATION Load cell calibration is made according to ASTM E4 and UNI EN standards. To make the calibration, the reference load cell is connected to the proper read instrument and is placed in series with the dynamometer load cell. The calibration is made starting the machine calibration procedure and making a cycles of measurements to determine calibration parameters. At the end of the calibration a verification is made to evaluate the precision of the instrument; to do that all the measured values are compared to the reference load cell ones at different charged load during three read cycles. More over at the end of every cycle, residual value is measured after 30 seconds from the removal of the load. If the customer wants the reversibility error is calculated; in other words we calculate the mean reading variation between a load which increases and one which decreases. The mean of the values is showed in the legend. EXTENSOMETERS CALIBRATION Extensometers calibration is made with a comparison between the read value and the nominal one of the reference gauge blocs placed between the two extensometers.after the relevant regulation of the reading system, a verification of the calibration is made making three cycles of measurements at the nominal value of the gauge blocs placed between the extensometers. The precision degree of the extensometers reading system is ranked according to ASTM E 83 standard. CHECK OF THE PRECISION OF THE INSTRUMENT Using different loads, it is checked the precision of the instrument by repeating three cycles of readings and at their end the Mean, the standard deviation and the uncertainty of the measurements of the instrument. The key below shows the meaning of the data and the calculation modalities for the Mean, the Standard Deviation and the uncertainty value (with a uncertainty factor K=2). THICKNESS METER CALIBRATION (If equipped on the machine) The calibration is made using a set of reference gauge blocs and comparing the read values with the nominal gauge bloc thickness.the acceptable precision for the instrument is fixed according to the sizes of the samples specified in dynamometrical tests standard.
