7 Lots of locations. Countless possibilities. France Les Mureaux Astrium s Les Mureaux site houses some of the space industry s most advanced facilities. Situated 40 km west of Paris, it is excellently located for both national and international customers. Here, over 1,000 engineers are developing key technologies for both civil and military space programmes. The site specialises in the prime contractorship of major space and strategic programmes Ariane launchers, the ballistic missiles in France s nuclear deterrent force, and the automated cargo vessel ATV for the International Space Station. Toulouse At its location in the southwest of France, Astrium in Toulouse specialises in satellite prime contracting, design, assembly integration and test for communications, Earth observation and science satellites. Its expertise also extends to avionics, optical instruments, on board software and ground systems at subsystem level. Aquitaine Near Bordeaux in the south -west of France, this centre is the historical birthplace of the French nuclear deterrent force. The Aquitaine site specialises in integrating solid propellant stages, re-entry vehicles, designing and manufacturing thermal protection systems, high-performance wound fi lament structures, complex testing and engineering for ground installations. Paris The Astrium head offi ce is located in Paris. Elancourt Elancourt s location ensures easy access for its principal customers, partners and suppliers. The main focus is the electronics centre of competence, Astrium s high technology hub. Principal activities at Elancourt comprise: electronic equipment design, development and manufacture, test, engineering, hybrid circuit and multi-chip manufacture. Spain Barajas Located near Madrid Barajas Airport, the site boasts the most advanced facilities, on grounds of more than 27,000 m 2. Experience gained over the past 40 years has turned it into a European centre of excellence in composites for space applications. Germany Bremen Bremen is the European centre of excellence for manned spacefl ight, launch vehicles and space robotics. With a workforce of around 1,000 highly qualifi ed employees, this north German site is responsible for key European contributions to the International Space Station (ISS), such as the Columbus space lab and the unmanned Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV). Ottobrunn Boasting around 900 highly skilled employees, this site is primarily responsible for manufacturing space propulsion systems and satellite subsystems for telecommunications, navigation and Earth observation. The company and its local subsidiaries also play a major role in the construction and operation of SATCOMBw Stage 2, the satellite communications system for the German Armed Forces. Friedrichshafen For nearly fi ve decades the site of Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance has been the lynchpin for the development and construction of satellites, probes and instruments for scientifi c research in space, Earth observation and meteorology. Lampoldshausen With its design, production and test facilities, the Lampoldshausen site near Heilbronn features among Europe s most prominent manufacturers of thrusters and propulsion systems. Trauen In Trauen, located in the middle of Germany s Lüneburg Heath national park, development work for RESUS, the production of high-purity hydrazine (HYPU) and production work for TEXUS is carried out with the main focus on an extensive range of tests. Netherlands Leiden Since July 2006, Dutch Space has been fully owned by Astrium, and operates as a subsidiary within Astrium Satellites. Its main activities are in the fi elds of solar arrays, launcher structures, verifi cation and simulation, descent and landing, and instruments. French Guiana Kourou Kourou was chosen in part because it is at 5 3 latitude north of the Equator, which makes the site ideal for launching a majority of satellites. United Kingdom Stevenage Astrium and Paradigm Secure Communications. 50 km north of London, the site assembled Blue Streak missiles in the 1950s and now houses Astrium s spacecraft design and build facility and the headquarters of Paradigm Secure Communications. Poynton On the outskirts of Manchester, 12 miles from the city centre, the Poynton site concentrates its 120-strong workforce on producing microwave components and ground terminals for fi xed and mobile communications. Portsmouth Located to the north east of the naval city of Portsmouth, this site has played a major role in the development of the UK s space capabilities since the 1960s. USA Houston Astrium North America is a US-based company and specialised provider of programme and project management services; software engineering and integration; hardware integration and operations; payload and cargo processing; fl ight simulation and training for the international aerospace community. Specialisms across the board. Astrium s prime roles in a wide range of space programmes are complemented by its specialist subsidiaries: Surrey Satellite Technology for small satellites and sub-systems; Dutch Space for space instruments and simulation systems; Tesat for payload components; Jena-Optronik for space sensors and optical systems; Sodern for optronics and space equipment; and CILAS for laser technologies and high precision optics. Astrium also provides launch services, through its shareholdings in Arianespace (Ariane launcher), Starsem (Soyuz launcher) and Eurockot (Rockot launcher), as well as space-based services via telecommunications satellites, through subsidiaries such as Paradigm and MilSatServices.
