2 IMPORTANT: 1. Do not connect plug pack or battery until all wiring is complete. 2. Make sure that the wiring to the horn speakers is neat and that no short circuits exist across the two 'S' terminals. 3. When connecting the battery make absolutely sure that the red positive terminal connects to B+ on the circuit board and that the black terminal connects to B- on the board. 4. After testing with the lid off, remove the link connected between the T and - terminals. Install the lid. This function will now be restored by the lid pushing down on the tamper button. If the siren is inoperative the most likely cause will be the lid off, and the tamper link removed. 5. When replacing the lid, align the 2 mounting screw holes accurately with the support posts. If the lid is slid instead of placed in position, the tamper switch could be pushed out of alignment and stop the siren from sounding. Retest the control unit after the lid has been replaced. 6. When connecting more than 1 detector to any NC. input, connect them in series as in fig 1, and not in parallel as for mats.(no.) TERMINOLOGY. 16vAC Plug pack transformer input. LED. Light Emitting Diode. R+R- Relay coil access terminal. NO. Normally open circuit. B+B- Standby battery connection. C. Common to both NO. and NC. KC. Keyswitch common connection. NC. Normally closed circuit. EH. Exit hold. T. Tamper inhibit terminal. A+A- Alert generator output. L. Latching mode. S+S- Horn speaker output. CONTROLS. ENTRY Sector 1 entry delay time 0-35 seconds. TIMER 15 seconds - 10 minutes. The minimum time is ideal for quick testing of the system during setting up. SIREN Used to vary the repetition rate. SENS Used for vibration sensors. Can be varied from slow to fast response. LATCHING. If a Sink is connected between L and -, each of the sectors can be triggered only once during the armed or on period. This means that when the siren has expired, the sector/s that caused the alarm cannot be retriggered. All SPR-5's are supplied without this link, thus making the product decision making, this means that if an alarming sector has resealed before the siren timer period has elapsed, that sector can be retriggered to bring on the siren again. MATS. FIG. 1 FACTORY PRESETS, DO NOT ADJUST. TRANSFORMER LEDS exit SECTION. SECTORS 2,3 AND
3 INPUTS. Sector 1 features a delayed input for NC. circuits such as reed switches, relay contacts from electronic detectors etc. The NO. connection is used for under carpet pressure mats. The C connection is common to both NC. and NO. This sector is used for detectors that are triggered by the owner during exit and entry of the premises. Sector 2 has an instant response to alarms (not delayed as in sector 1). Sector 3 is also instant but has no NO. input for mats. Sector is the same as sector 3 but has a sensitivity control (SENS) NB. Any unused NC. inputs must be terminated to their appropriate C. otherwise the sector LED for that input will stay on and may cause confusion. If an alert generator is used, this will sound during the exit period if any sectors are unsealed. Sectors not sealed by the end of this period are automatically locked out of circuit. The LED's are non latching during the 80 second exit period. DET+ - This is a fuse protected output of 13.7 volts for detectors, and is also repeated lower down on the terminal connector. (recommended fuse 2 amps.) B+/KC/EH. Connect a wire link between B+ and KC., and the keyswitch wires between KC. and EH. (this powers detectors at all times, see note 2/. below.) A+A- If connected, will sound only during the exit period to indicate unsealed sector/s. Essential for periodical self testing/remote keyswitch operation. S+S- Up to 3 horn speakers (8 ohms) can be used in parallel across these connections. (polarity not important) NB. Nidac PDE-1 can connect here also. 16v.AC. Connect the lead from the plug pack transformer to this input. (polarity not important). NB1. Damage may occur if the plug pack is connected to any other terminals. NB2. NIDAC HPP5 Approved transformer is recommended. COMMISSIONING. At this point it is assumed that all detectors, speakers and plug pack have been connected. Before connecting the battery (which fits in behind the main circuit board), commence testing the system with plug pack power only. Because the internal regulator is current limited, no damage should result if there are short circuits either in the detector power line or speaker wiring. Plug the transformer into a 240 volt power outlet and switch on. the orange LED. marked POWER will light up. Any unsealed input sectors will also light up. (red) Turn the key switch ON, the green LED. will commence flashing, this indicates the start of the EXIT period (80 seconds). Any sector LEDS. that are not out at the end of the exit period (indicated by the green LED. remaining on steady) will be automatically isolated from the system. After the exit period has expired (armed state) any sectors that are triggered will latch their own red LED. to indicate which sectors caused the alarm. When the key switch is OFF, the exit LED. will also be off. The sector LED'S will operate in a non latching mode allowing monitoring of the sector status at all times. B+B- If everything is working correctly, the standby battery can be connected. The battery positive (+) connects to B+ and battery negative (-) to B- on the connecting block. This is most important as reverse connection of the battery will result in damage to the control unit. To keep the battery fully charged, the plug pack must be switched on permanently. (orange LED. on) BATTERY TEST. Switch off the plug pack at the mains power leaving the battery to support the system. Switch unit on and after the exit period expires trigger any sector. If the brightness of the LED/S, and volume of the siren drops noticeably within a few minutes of operation, then replace the battery. Expected battery life is 4 years. NB. Only use 12V 1.9A sealed lead battery. NOTES. 1/. If alert generator is required, only use 12 volt low current piezo buzzer. 2/. To cut power to detectors during the OFF mode, reverse the connection of key switch and link. ie. connect the switch between B+ and KC., and the link between KC. and EH. (see option section).
4 The LED's are non latching during the exit period. Any sectors not sealed at the end of this time (indicated by the GREEN EXIT LED remaining on steady) w i l l be automatically isolated from the system. To speed up testing during installation, the resistor to the left of' the TIMER control may be bridged out for one second ( the resistor leads are extended for this purpose). This will eliminate the exit period. N.B. At any time during testing or normal operation, the key need only be switched off for 1-2 seconds to fully restore the full time periods of exit, entry and timer. If the detectors are required to be powered up at all times, then connect a link between B+ and KC. and the keyswitch between KC. and EH. In this mode the EH. (exit hold) facility allows the SPR-5 control circuitry and detectors to remain on continuously with the keyswitch off. The sector LED's operate in a non latching mode allowing monitoring of sector status at all times. The GREEN EXIT LED. remains of with the keyswitch off. Normal exit mode will commence when the keyswitch is turned on. This unique feature becomes more apparent when used in conjunction with the remote keyswitch facility. See Relay Connections heading. A-A+ These terminals are used to drive one or two alert generators (CADIN part No. RAC-1) to aid in more complete and/or remote testing of the system. This feature is essential if a remote keyswitch is used. S+S- Up to 3 8ohm. reflex horn speakers can be used in parallel across these connections (polarity unimportant). At this point it is assumed that all detector inputs and speakers etc. have been connected. Before connecting the battery, commence testing w i t h transformer power only. Because the internal regulator (powered by the transformer) is current limited, no damage should result if there are short circuits either- in the detector power line or speaker wiring. If everything works properly, then the battery can be connected and charging w i l l commence. Determine correct polarity of the battery when connecting. The battery posi tive (+) connects to B+ and battery negative (-) to B- on the connect ion bl ock. This is important as reverse connection of batteries may result in damage to the unit. The mains power should be briefly switched off' to ensure that the battery is supporting the system. It is important that the total current loading of all detectors be carefully calculated to ensure that sufficient reserve of current remains to charge the battery in the event of a ma ins failure A good compromise is 800mA. maximum for detectors thus leaving 200mA. for battery charging. Battery Test:- It is very difficult to truly test a sealed GEL. battery accurately. Some compe t products simply operate an LED. to indicate that the battery is above a certain voltage. This is quite meaningless because the voltage of a charged battery is not indicative of its capacity to support an alarm system under full load conditions. We therefore recommend that the battery simply be replaced each 3-4 years or as experience indicates. One s imple test procedure is to switch the plug pack off at the mains and let the battery support the complete system. Trigger the unit and see if the brightness of' the appropiate sector LED/s drops significantly within a few minutes of the siren sounding. A noticable drop in siren volume under the same test will also indicate that battery replacement is required. RELAY CONNECTIONS. The accessible relay coil and 3Amp. isolated contacts allow a number of interesting and unique possibilities. Please study the variations below and see how versatile this new concept really is, When replacing the lid, align the 2 mounting screw holes accurately with the support stand-off's. This will avoid pushing the TAMPER switch out of alignment which can occur when the lid is slid instead of placed in its final position. A mis-aligned tamper switch will stop the siren from sounding. It is advisable to test the control unit after the lid has been replaced.
