4 Page 4 Airside Construction Activity: Please Note; Service Road Q will remain Northbound Only Until Further Notice. South Airfield Improvement Project / Airfield Intersection Project (AIP2) This project will improve various airfield intersections and modify service road locations to provide safe taxiing routes for current large aircraft and future New Large Aircraft (NLA). This phase of the project includes widening five intersections throughout the north and south airfield complex at LAX near Taxiways E and C and Runways 24L and 25R. The project will also include intersection pavement and shoulder reconstruction and relocation of all affected taxiway lighting and signage, demolition of existing vaults 2N and 2S, and construction of a new electrical vault in the north airfield. Work has started in Work Area 8 at the intersection of Taxiway E and Taxiway V and the new electrical vault along Taxiway E-13. Eduardo B Porto the LAWA Project Manager. South Airfield Improvement Project This project has two major packages, the first package will relocate Runway 7R/25L approximately 56 to the South, and the second package will construct a center taxiway between Runway 07L/25R and Runway 07R/25L. Punch list items are the final work activities for this project. Matt Patterson is the LAWA Project Manager. Passenger Boarding Bridge Replacement This project will replace 26 Passenger Boarding Bridges at the Tom Bradley International Terminal, West Remote Boarding Facilities and Terminal 3. Gene Hong is the LAWA Project Manager. LAWA Air Quality & Source Apportionment Study The LAX Air Quality and Source Apportionment Study is a 3-year study. The air quality study will be the most comprehensive air monitoring, modeling, and data analysis program to be undertaken by LAWA for one of its facilities, or for that fact, by any airport authority nationwide. The first two phases which will be conducted through Norene Hastings is the Environmental Specialist. Runway Status Light Project RWSL is a fully automatic, advisory safety system designed to reduce the number and severity of runway incursions and thus prevent runway accidents while not interfering with airport operations. RWSL is designed to be compatible with existing procedures. RWSL is comprised of Takeoff Hold Lights (new) and Runway Entrance Lights. This project is ongoing with nightly closures of Runway 06R/24L Tuesday through Saturdays. Sean Flynn is the LAWA Project Manager. Taxiway A Repaving Project - Phase 4 LAWA Construction and Maintenance will profile and re-pave Taxiway A from 200 feet West of Taxiway AF to 300 feet East of Taxiway AF from 0430L on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 until 0500L on Monday, October 6, 2008 require the closure of Taxiway A between Taxiway AF and Taxiway A3. 5 Page 5 Terminal Construction Activity: LAWA Construction and Maintenance Terminal One Work The Terminal One work continues with the installation of new carpet in the Passenger Boarding Bridges and the application of new wall finishes in the arrivals area. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of September. Relocation of Airlines from Terminal 3 Virgin America's will relocate to Terminal 3 and the consequent move of five airlines from Terminal 3 to Terminal 6 is ongoing. Virgin America's will make improvements to Terminal prior to their move to Terminal 3. During the period of approximately 4 to 6 weeks when refurbishment is ongoing at T-3, Virgin America will continue operations at T-6 along with the relocated T-3 tenants. Virgin America hopes to be fully operational at Terminal 3 by the end of October, 2008 and will be using the west side gates and hold rooms for their flights. Terminal 3 Fuel Hydrant System Re-activation Project The Source Group has been contracted by LAWA to begin the process to re-activate the Terminal 3 Fuel Hydrant System. The source group will begin these activities on Tuesday, September 23, The activities can be broken into 4 main work activities. The following list contains the activities of work required; 1. Hydrant Line Draining 2. Carter Valve Removal 3. Hydrant Flushing 4. Carter Valve Installation Walter Morales is the Source Group Project Engineer. LAWA Construction and Maintenance Terminal Six Upgrade Projects LAWA Construction and Maintenance has started a 24 month renovation project. Work includes; renovation of 6 sets of public use restrooms, replacing stained ceiling tiles throughout the Terminal, cleaning of Alcan Ceilings throughout Terminal, repair of Terrazzo flooring in Baggage area, repair of damaged ceramic floor tiles, handrail repairs, upgrades to Traveler s Aid work area, new carpet in waiting area of arrivals level, new carpet and paint in Passenger Loading Bridges and lighting upgrades. Work is ongoing at the Gate 65 and Gate 67A hold rooms. The Satellite South Restrooms are closed for remodeling. Gate 64 hold room will be scheduled next along with restrooms in the public lobby. TBIT Refurbishment Project (CMJV) This project will renovate the interior public spaces, replace the outbound baggage system, and include the construction of a new north NLA gate. The building s paging, HVAC, IT and elevators/escalators will also be upgraded or replaced. Please check the Terminal Operations Website for further the latest updates at: Van Thompson is the LAWA Project Manager. North-side In-Line Project This project will construct an in-line baggage screening system in Terminal 3 pursuant to the requirements of TSA. This project includes replacement of the existing airline baggage handling spaces; construction of new baggage screening rooms; replacement of the outbound baggage conveyor systems; and installation/integration of TSA-provided Explosive Detection System (EDS) machines and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) work stations. The east-west Tug Route located at the south end of Gate 39,
6 Page 6 under the Terminal connector, is restricted to Alaska Airlines baggage handlers and construction personnel only. Immediately following the Alaska transition, work will commence on the west side baggage belts. Contingency plans have been finalized for the full power shutdowns. Richard Chang is the LAWA Inspector (310) TBIT Airlines Support System (TASS) This project involves a major upgrade to the IT systems that support the TBIT stakeholders. Quarterly meetings are held with all the stakeholders. Current activities include procurement and development of the TASS system. Geoffry Galtere is the LAWA Construction Manager. TASS is part of a major upgrade to the IT systems airport wide.
7 Page 7 Landside Construction Activity: Caltrans I-105 Off-ramp Widening Project Caltrans will be widening the Sepulveda Boulevard off-ramp of the westbound I-105 freeway from Sepulveda Boulevard to Nash Street to allow access to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard and to add more off-ramp capacity. This project will also provide congestion relief and enhance safety. The majority of work will be preformed adjacent to and underneath the existing off-ramp lanes. Lane closures are expected to be minimal. The project began in August 2008 and estimated completion is scheduled for late Current activities include mobilization John R. Fronda is the LAWA Project Manager. Theme Building Repair Project The Board awarded an emergency contract to CSA Constructors for erection of scaffolding and asbestos and lead paint abatement. The scaffolding has been aligned to the original configuration. The site has completed the demolition and abatement. The next phase is restoration and volunteered seismic upgrade after the bidding process. The Encounter Restaurant is now open. David McCombs is the LAWA Project Manager. Imperial/Sepulveda Landscaping Improvements Project This project will construct landscaping enhancements to the southern gateway to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The Imperial/Sepulveda Landscaping Improvements are located along the north side of Imperial Highway east of Sepulveda Boulevard and Sepulveda Blvd between Century Boulevard and Imperial Highway. Work anticipated to be completed next week includes: Landscaping work continues with tree installation and irrigation work. Juan Yanez is the LAWA Project Manager. Vendor Parking Permit required with-in CTA Contact Airfield permits at (310) Roadway Closures: Closures must be coordinated in advance with CALTRANS/LAWA Traffic Services, contact Airport Police at (310) and Pat Tomcheck TOC (Traffic Operations Center). Airport Police Security Instructions: AOA Post 4, the only entry post permitting non-tenant and non-badged AOA entry with Airport badge escort. No Baggage will be processed through Post #4. While operating on the AOA all vehicles must display a valid monthly permit.
