1 LOS ANGELES AFB, EL SEGUNDO, CA: Contract #: FA D-0001 / DO #001 Title: Building 284 Repair Lighting Location: Los Angeles AFB, El Segundo, CA Amount: $61, Start date: 4/13/12 Completion: 5/26/12 Scope of work (Design & Build type): Building 284 is the 61st CELS Logistics Warehouse. It is equipped with skylights that capitalize on natural daylight. However it suffers from low light levels on dark mornings and cloudy days. A new system of lights and controls increased the light levels. To minimize the energy usage impact of increased light levels, energy saving control measures were also utilized so that lights are turned off automatically when either the skylights provide enough ambient light or there is no occupancy within an aisle. 2 Contract #: FA D-0001 / DO #0004 Title: B272 Repair & Upgrade Space Re-allocation (All Floors) Location: Los Angeles AFB, El Segundo, CA Amount: $451, Start date: 11/21/11 Completion: 5/13/12 Scope of work (Construction type): Under the overall space allocation and space optimization program for building 272, a project consisting of six Task Orders will cause for temporary relocation of Security Forces so that their space can undergo demolition and installation of new hard wall offices. Alternatively, spaces for existing ATO and interview rooms require be demolished to provide new access for Inspectors Sergeants, Lieutenants work spaces and new interview room. A new hard-wall office will also be created, titled Reporting Room. Using demountable walls, existing west wall of Guardmount will be extended and abutted against south windows, creating additional space for Security personnel between extended wall and east perimeter. Security Force Commander in charge will move into a hard wall office with internal demountable wall on 2nd floor. Commander s Administrative and other support team will move into second floor, vacated by Tri-West. The FM personnel and cashier/vault will be relocated from 4th floor to 2nd (cashier/vault) and first floor for office personnel. The entire FM and TriWest personnel will be housed in an area vacated by Security Forces. Some existing walls will be demolished in order to accommodate the TriWest personnel on the first floor. Existing Learning and Resource Center will be extended from south side, using another demountable wall. TriWest mini-server will also be relocated. Finally, existing Chaplain s reception area in 4th floor will be converted to an office and will house ABGs 1Sgt, along with ATO and ABG s FM Flight Chief. Some modifications will be done to corridor door/sidelite assembly and to HVAC supply/return ducts, and Sprinkler System piping. Where necessary, relocate light fixtures, HVAC diffusers and ceiling tiles to avoid obstruction against newly installed walls, demountable walls, and header bulkhead walls. All new office areas being created require new signage to be installed.
3 Contract #: FA D-0001 / DO #0011 Title: Bldg. 270 & 271 Repair Reclaimed Waterline (Water Hammer Arresters) Location: Los Angeles AFB, El Segundo, CA Amount: $73, Start date: 6/4/12 Completion: 11/20/13 (on-going) Scope of work (Design & Build type): During the flushing of toilets in building 270 and 271, the reclaimed water pipe vibrates significantly, which if the condition continues, the pipes may fail. In the past, a pipe rubbed against a steel beam and failed, causing a water leak. The problem was attributed to the water hammer and the flexibility of the pipe support system. Existing water hammer arrestors were examined and additional are added. Additional pipe anchors and guides are also provided to minimize the pipe movement. To minimize the effect on the Users due to downtime while the work is on-going, this project is currently being performed in phases and has been combined with another restroom project to replace existing ceramic tiles with new Terrazzo flooring and cove base on three buildings (270, 271 and 272). The existing prefabricated steel building 283, the concrete slab and foundation system, the adjacent associated site concrete areas, as well as other building specific attachments were demolished and properly disposed off per Environmental regulations. Performed safe-off (capping) of site plumbing utilities (domestic water, fire line water, and sewer), electrical and COMM to allow for safe demolition, and subsequent earthwork and asphalt paving over entire disturbed building and site footprint. This area has been designated to address parking in Los Angeles AFB for a future electrical vehicle charging station. Loose/flakey paint were scraped off, contained & disposed of properly per approved lead abatement plan. Applied approved encapsulant to allow safe demolition & disposal off-site of building 228, steel canopy, concrete slab and foundation system, associated site concrete work, as well as other building specific attachments, per Environmental regulations. An independent consultant provided 3 rd Party Monitoring. Performed safe-off of gas and electric utilities to allow for safe demolition, and subsequent earthwork and asphalt paving over entire disturbed building and site footprint.
