The amount of members is currently stable at 105 and HAAN organised four interesting and pleasant meetings during the past year. The Management Committee would like to thank our members Sergej van Middendorp, Hans van Tartwijk, Sjouke de Vries and Jan de Vries for hosting a meeting in 2005! There was extensive networking on different issues, which benefited many members, during The Who-is-Who at the HAAN website is extensively used but not all members have kept their own pages up to date. There is still a plan to print the Who-is-Who in a booklet like the one in the last century, but the Managing Committee feels that all the records should be up to date first. Developments Henley Alumni Association The Netherlands Changes in the Managing Committee of HAAN Michael Hoekstra has taken on the vacant position of student representative in the Managing Committee. Lewis Gayatri Ramanujam Nico van Ruiten Hedzer Steensma HAAN activities in 2005 HAAN Annual Meeting February 15 th 2005 The meeting was held at the headquarters of e-office in Huis ter Heide. The main topic at the Annual Membership Meeting was the request from the Managing Committee to the Membership to give a discharge for the management of the Association in 2003 and The accounts of 2003 were checked by our members Hans Galesloot and Ivo Timmermans on September 7th 2004; the accounts of 2004 were checked by our members Dion Broeken and Sergej van Middendorp on February 3rd After a short discussion of the financial and non-financial developments of 2003 and 2004 and the wishes of the membership for 2005 and 2006, the members of HAAN have given discharge to the Managing Committee for the years 2003 and An annual report with the financial results of 2004 will be published on the HAAN website soon. All members will receive a message at that time. HAAN Lecture February 15 th 2005 After the Annual Meeting Verna Allee held a lecture on Leveraging Internal and External Value Networks. Verna, whose groundbreaking book The Knowledge Evolution helped usher in the exploding field of knowledge management, brought her experience-tested insights around knowledge and intangibles into an exciting new synthesis, penetrating to the very heart of value creation. In this engaging and provocative session, she demonstrated how understanding the economic principles of intangibles and networks brings breakthrough thinking and dramatic business results for industry, NGO and government organizations.

2 Drawing from her latest work and newest book, The Future of Knowledge: Increasing Prosperity through Value Networks, she took the audience beyond typical ROI, value chain and process models to rethink business activities from the whole system perspective of a value network. With a gift for making the complex simple and practical, she demonstrated a powerful modelling technique that supports three core types of value network analysis. Verna is recognized worldwide in the fields of value networks, knowledge management, intangibles, communities of practice and new business models. She is a practitioner, thought leader, author, and frequent keynote speaker. Through her value network of colleagues and partner organizations, she consults with a wide variety of businesses from global corporations and entrepreneurial start-ups, to government agencies and global action networks. The members who missed the evening are advised to take a look at: HAAN Lecture June 23 rd 2005 Hans van Tartwijk, HAAN member and partner of Trimp & van Tartwijk Property Performance, was the host for the second HAAN meeting of 2005 in the Conference Centre of the World Trade Center in Amsterdam. Hans introduced his company and some of the impressive current projects, like the prestigious Amsterdam Symphony project with m2 space for residential use, m2 for commercial use, m2 for hotels, m2 for the arts and m2 for retail, restaurants, etcetera. Amsterdam Symphony is located in the centre of the Zuidas project near the WTC. The Zuidas is the largest town planning project in the Netherlands of the last 100 years. It is a new city in the centre of the existing one; a unique combination of high-tech offices, easy living and excellent amenities, within a stone s throw of Amsterdam s historical centre and Schiphol Airport. Since it was launched in the mid-1990s, m2 of surface area has been realised, including the emblematic head offices of ABN AMRO and ING, the renovation and expansion of the World Trade Centre, and the new offices of the Mahler4 project. The infrastructure will be moved underground, creating space for property developments. A mixed and sustainable urban centre environment is being created for the 21 st century. Such a concept is unique, with the Dutch once again proving that a lack of space can inspire ground-breaking innovations in a country built by human hands. The Zuidas will have over homes and over 1 million square metres of office space, generating over jobs in the Greater Amsterdam region. A new station combines the high-speed line, trains, cars, the metro and a link with Schiphol airport. The financial construction for the project is innovative too; a public private cooperative venture. The Zuidas is a metropolitan project (currently planning up to ) under the supervision of the urban designer Pi de Bruijn. There is close collaboration between all kinds of parties: national and local government, designers, developers, investors, social organizations and residents. The Zuidas is being developed into an ultramodern leading international location with a balanced mix of residential and commercial property plus amenities. A number of buildings along the Zuidas have already been completed. Construction of other projects is in full swing. Construction of the first residential properties in the Zuidas has started. Jaap van der Wijst, consultant of Trimp & van Tartwijk, informed the audience about the development and realisation of the World Trade Center Amsterdam.

3 Before the development, at the turn of the century, the WTC (built in 1985) was in need of major improvement. In first instance Trimp & van Tartwijk did consultancy work for the owners of the buildings to form a strategy to improve the profitability of the building, upgrade the technical features, integrate it with the changing surroundings and create a more international ambience. The owners agreed with the proposed changes and contracted Trimp & van Tartwijk to manage the development, engineering and realisation. The existing buildings were reconstructed and extended with m2 office space and m2 amenities in New buildings with m2 office space and m2 amenities were completed in The public square was fully refurbished and now features an enormous underground parking lot for bicycles. An introvert and aged building complex has now been changed into an open, transparent and modern complex; a representative and stimulating environment, which with m2 of space is the largest building complex in the Netherlands. 4 After the visit to the Zuidas Project Bureau the group walked to the Blauwe Engel (Blue Angel, so called after the nick name the citizens of the City of Amsterdam gave to the WTC) where a buffet and drinks were waiting. HAAN Lecture September 27 th 2005 The third HAAN meeting of 2005 was held on Tuesday September 27th in the Royal Philips Electronics Global Headquarters in Amsterdam. Seated in the boardroom on the highest floor of the Breitner Centre (with one of the best views of Amsterdam), some 25 HAAN members attended a lecture by Mr. Calvin E. Crouch, Global Director, One to One Marketing, Philips Electronics. In his present position, Mr. Crouch is responsible for direct-to-consumer marketing, including CRM, internet sales, direct marketing and customer care. In addition, he is responsible for the supporting infrastructure, including databases, web sites and related tools. Before joining Philips, he led directmarketing activities for a division of Daimler-Chrysler. He began his career in advertising and direct marketing agencies, including J. Walter Thompson & BBDO first as a copywriter and later as an account manager on a diverse list of accounts ranging from Fisher-Price toys and Ford Motor Company to Goldman Sachs. He earned a Masters degree in Political Science from the College of William & Mary and an undergraduate degree from Colby College. He lives in Connecticut in the U.S., but commutes several times each month to Philips headquarters in The Netherlands. He gave a lecture about consumer marketing focused on relationship- and one-to-one marketing. After introducing Customer Relationship Management and its possibilities in general, the Philips CRM infrastructure and approach was explained. Some very nice campaign examples were shown too. After concluding with a recapitulation and the lessons learned, there were snacks and drinks and the opportunity to enjoy the company of fellow alumni and the view. HAAN Lecture November 24 th 2005 The fourth and last HAAN meeting of 2005 took place on Thursday November 24th at DooWorld in Almere. DooWorld is a 4,000 square metre large entertainment centre owned by HAAN member Jan de Vries.

5 Jan had invited Mr. Paul Beck to give a lecture about branding and leisure. Paul is an expert in this field. He is a former director of the Efteling and Endemol, is well known in the entertainment business and has had a leading role in the development of Volkswagen's Autostadt. He demonstrated that offering just goods and services is no longer enough, however this opens up a further opportunity; a customer is willing to pay (much) more for an experience than (just) a product. Before the lecture, the group enjoyed dinner at one of the restaurants in DooWorld and after the lecture Jan gave all attendees a tour around the impressive entertainment centre. DooWorld (see: ) is located in the heart of Almere. It contains 12 bowling alleys, a casino, a restaurant, a cocktail bar and a large games area. DooWorld opened in June 2004 and already has one of the best running bowling alleys in the Netherlands. It was nice to see how a fellow member runs such an interesting business.
