Tick (R) A, B or C. John Pickering In a park in a small town in central England, John Pickering cuts the grass and waters the flowers. I must keep my job in the park, he says. I ve got a house to pay for! His friends know that he is famous in Japan. But that is not a problem for the Pickerings. John s wife, Denise, a hospital worker, says, This will not change the way we live. I only know John Pickering, not Jon Otis! 10 Jahrgangsstufentest Englisch WRITING There are 15 points for this task: s 5 points maximum for content and s 5 points maximum for language, multiplied by 2. Pupils are not expected to produce faultless English. To achieve 15 points, a pupil should write a cohesive text which successfully communicates all parts of the message (where you were / why you didn t come / what there is still to do for the party / what clothes you are going to wear / what special activity is planned) and contains only few minor errors. Points CONTENT All content elements covered with some detail. Message clearly communicated to reader. All content elements adequately dealt with. Message communicated successfully, on the whole. All content elements mentioned. Message requires some effort by the reader. OR 2 1 One content element omitted but others clearly communicated. Two content elements omitted, or unsuccessfully dealt with. Message only partly communicated to reader. Little relevant content. Message requires excessive effort by the reader. 0 Totally irrelevant or too short. Points (x 2) 5 LANGUAGE There are almost no errors in the text. Minor errors may occur when attempting more complex language. 4 There are some minor, but no major errors. There are several minor, and few major errors, but they do not impede 3 communication. 2 1 There are many minor and several major errors, which distract the reader and may obscure communication at times. Frequent errors which obscure communication; little evidence of language control. 0 Totally incomprehensible. Pupils are not penalised if they write more than 60 words. If pupils use less than 45 words, they automatically lose 1 point out of 5 in the language section. If they write less than 30 words, they automatically lose 2 points out of 5 in the language section. Scripts whose content marks are 0 should not be marked for the other category (language).
