1 This instruction is used as a short overview for using the MultiMediaCard with the IndraDrive and the possibillities involved. Brief Description The is a non-volatile storage medium that can be inserted in the slot provided for this purpose on the front of the controller. The MMC can store drive firmware, drive parameters and other files. The MMC can be used optionally. As stationarily (permanently) plugged storage medium the MMC can be used as: "programming module", as active, non-volatile memory containing the current axis-specific parameter values and the firmware active in the drive. As a temporarily plugged storage medium the MMC can be used for: updating firmware via command, transmitting drive parameter sets and firmware to other drives for serial commissioning via command, saving the parameter values after initial commissioning, reestablishing the original parameter status of the drive (loading the saved parameter values). Attention: Not for drives with absolute value encoder and modulo format! When being used in IndraDrive devices, the MMC has to have the following folder structure: Fig : Required folder structure of the MMC The folders on the MMC are provided for the following contents: Folder "Firmware" The file with the drive firmware has to be filed in this folder. The file extension has to be ".ibf". The following firmware variants are possible: FWA-INDRV*-MPH-02VRS... (Advanced single-axis) FWA-INDRV*-MPH-02VRS... (Basic single-axis) FWA-INDRV*-MPD-02VRS... (Basic double-axis) At delivery the MMC has the required folder structure, the "Firmware" folder contains the latest release of the drive firmware. Seite 2 / 8

3 Note: When updating the firmware via MMC make sure that the folder "Firmware" only contains one file with the extension ".ibf". This folder may contain other files but not with the extension ".ibf"! Folder "Parameters" In this folder contains the files with the axis-specific parameter values and the parameter values relevant for replacing the devices: a file with the extension "...#1.pbf" (parameter values to be saved acc. to S , size 320kB) a file with the extension "...#1.rbf" ("retain" data for replacing devices acc. to P , size 16kB) Storage takes place automatically when the MMC is used as "programming module" (stationarily plugged). Storage takes place by a command if the MMC has only been plugged temporarily. Note: In the case of the firmware variant "Basic double axis" (FWAINDRV*- MPD-02VRS...) the mentioned files are stored for each of the two axes. The extensions for the files of the second axis are "...#2.pbf" and "...#2.rbf" If the files are transmitted to the MMC from PC storage media, make sure that the file sizes are corresponding to the mentioned requirements! At delivery of the MMC the basic parameters for the firmware contained on the MMC are included in the folder "parameters". Folder "Documentation" At delivery of the MMC this folder does not contain any files. The customer can store any data in this folder that are useful for handling the firmware or the axis. Ordering a Firmware Update The MMC with the latest release of the drive firmware can be ordered with the type designation PFM FW with firmware-dependent sub-item: FWA-INDRV*-MPH-02VRS-MS (Advanced single-axis) - or - FWA-INDRV*-MPD-02VRS-MS (Basic double-axis) - or - FWA-INDRV*-MPB-02VRS-MS (Basic single-axis) Note: An MMC with current release of the required firmware can be ordered from our sales and service facilities. 4 Firmware Update with MMC The MMC allows transmitting drive firmware to the drive controller in a quick and uncomplicated way. We basically distinguish stationarily and temporarily plugged MMCs. Firmware Update via Stationarily Plugged MMC The firmware update with a device having a stationarily plugged MMC (MMC used as "programming module") can be carried out using a PC that can read and write a MMC - or - using an MMC that was supplied with the current firmware release for firmware update (without PC). Firmware Update with PC This requires a PC with an adapter to plug in and activate the MMC as "alternate data carrier". The new firmware has to be available on a data carrier of the PC as a file with the extension ".ibf". This file has to be transmitted to the folder "Firmware" of the MMC of the device for which the firmware update is to be carried out. The folder "Parameters" mustn t be changed! Note: Use an MMC identical to the one active in the controller! This guarantees the that the axis that was switched off and has stopped can be operated after the firmware update without loss of position data references, target values etc. Firmware Update without PC (with Update MMC) This procedure of firmware update can be carried out without PC. It requires replacing the MMC previously active in the drive by the MMC delivered for the update. The axis-specific parameter values stored on the previously used MMC have to be transmitted to the new MMC by temporary storage in the controller! The new MMC remains in the controller. Firmware Update via Temporarily Plugged MMC If the MMC does not remain stationarily (permanently) plugged in the device, it can be temporarily plugged in the switched-on device after the booting phase and removed again ("hot plug" or "hot unplug"). Firmware Update After having plugged the MMC and activated the P , C2900 Firmware update from MMC command, the drive automatically carries out the firmware update. 5 Saving and Loading Parameter Values The MMC allows saving application-specific parameter values in a quick and uncomplicated way and/or loading values saved on the MMC to the drive controller. Parameter values are saved by activating parameter P , C2600 Copy IDN from internal memory to optional memory. When doing this, the application-specific parameter values active in the drive are saved on the MMC according to the parameters S , IDN-list of backup operation data and P , IDN list of retain data (replacement of devices). Parameter values are loaded by activating parameter P , C2500 Copy IDN from optional memory to internal memory. The applicationspecific parameter values are loaded to the controller-internal, nonvolatile memory according to the list parameters S and P Note: The C2500 and C2600 commands can be started via the control panel! See therefore "Control Panel of the IndraDrive Controllers" in the funcional description of the firmware MMC when Replacing Devices See therefore "Control Panel of the IndraDrive Controllers" in the funcional description of the firmware Notes on Commissioning Firmware Update via Stationarily Plugged MMC Firmware Update with PC Sequence of firmware update with PC: 1. Put MMC delivered for firmware update in MMC adapter of PC. 2. Store file with new firmware (extension ".ibf", folder "Firmware") on storage medium of PC and remove MMC from PC. 3. Put MMC previously active in drive into PC and on MMC in folder "Firmware" replace file with previously used firmware by new file. 4. Put MMC previously active in drive with now updated firmware into controller that was switched off, then switch controller on. 5. When booting the controller the display shows the message "Firmware update?". Acknowledge this message by pressing the "Enter" button (control panel). 6. New firmware is now loaded to controller (firmware update); display shows corresponding download messages. Seite 5 / 8

6 7. After firmware download boot process is completed, drive in communication phase P-1 waits for other commands or is put into readiness for operation via the control master. Note: The MMC previously active in the controller remains active after the firmware update! Firmware Update without PC Sequence of firmware update without PC: 1. Store axis-specific parameter values stored on the previously active MMC via command C2500 in non-volatile memory of controller. 2. Switch control voltage of drive off and remove previously active MMC from controller. 3. Switch drive on again without MMC plugged. During boot phase, display shows message "Load new Param.?". Acknowledge this message by pressing the "Enter" button (control panel). 4. After boot phase is over plug new MMC delivered for firmware update into controller, then with command C2600 transmit axis-specific parameter values stored in controller to new MMC. 5. After transmission is over switch control voltage of drive off, leave new MMC in controller and switch drive on again. 6. When booting the controller the display shows the message "Firmware update?". Acknowledge this message by pressing the "Enter" button (control panel). 7. New firmware is now loaded to controller (firmware update); display shows corresponding download messages. 8. Boot process is continued after firmware download and message "Load new Param.?" appears. Acknowledge this message by pressing the "Enter" button (control panel). New MMC now is active MMC of this drive. 9. Boot process is completed, drive in communication phase P-1 waits for other commands or is put into readiness for operation via the control master. Note: The MMC previously active in the controller is replaced by the new MMC delivered for the firmware update! Seite 6 / 8

7 Firmware Update via Temporarily Plugged MMC Note: With PC check whether the folder "Firmware" on the MMC contains the required file for firmware update! Firmware update via temporarily plugged MMC: 1. Switch controller on. After boot phase is over (display reads "P-1") or in communication phase P2 put MMC with firmware update file into respective slot ("hot plug"). 2. With MMC plugged, via the control panel or appropriate master communication, activate P , C2900 Command Firmware update from MMC. 3. During firmware download (update) different messages for download process appear on display. 4. After end of firmware update, message "End C29" appears on display. Remove MMC from controller ("hot unplug" or when controller switched off). 5. New firmware is activated by switching controller off and on again. Firmware type active in device can be shown on display via control panel. See therefore "Control Panel of the IndraDrive Controllers" in the funcional description of the firmware. Saving Parameter Values on MMC Put MMC into controller after boot phase ("hot plug"). In communication phase P2, via control panel or appropriate master communication activate P , C2600 Copy IDN from internal memory to optional memory. Diagnostic Messages Respective diagnostic command message: C2600 Copy IDN from internal memory to optional memory The following error diagnoses can be signaled: C2602 Error when accessing the MMC C2604 Error when reading the flash Note: As a matter of principle it is recommended to additionally save the application-specific parameter values via the "DriveTop" commissioning tool or the control master on an external storage medium! 8 Loading Parameter Values from MMC Put MMC containing the axis-specific parameter values into controller after boot phase ("hot plug"). In communication phase P2, via control panel or appropriate master communication activate P , C2500 Copy IDN from optional memory to internal memory. By starting this command the application-specific parameter values can be transmitted to other axes of the same type during serial commissioning - or - loaded to the same controller again to reestablish the original status. Diagnostic Messages Note: In the case of drives with absolute value encoder and modulo format, the position data reference has to be established again after having loaded the parameter values saved after initial commissioning, even if the actual position values are signaled to be valid via S , Position feedback value status!
