6 1 Expo 2020 Dubai Expo 2020 Dubai s commercial activities are enriched by the participants contributions, allowing visitors the opportunity to experience regionally authentic products. 1.1 Vision of Expo 2020 Dubai Every World Expo has celebrated the unique achievements of its era and unveiled new concepts and experiences to its visitors, including technological advancements, iconic architecture, and opportunities for cultural exchange, to name but a few. Expo 2020 Dubai seeks to deliver this same sense of wonder and hope for the future to millions of visitors of all ages, cultures, nationalities and backgrounds. Our overarching vision is for a World Expo that celebrates the potential of human collaboration, and inspires and drives a positive, long-term impact for people and communities across the world. Connecting minds requires a mutual understanding of our world and a greater sense of empathy. Understanding innovation and inclusivity are the core values that lie at the heart of our themes and guides our approach to building an Expo that has interrelated perspectives, engaging stories and connected thinking. Central to this vision is an exceptional visitor experience one that ensures that every kind of visitor is engaged, excited, entertained and inspired. Our mission therefore, is to develop and deliver an immersive, tailored experience that appeals to all the senses, from the brilliant basics that ensure a smooth and seamless journey throughout the site, to the inspiring exhibitions, entertaining events and iconic architecture that deliver the all-important wow moments. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Expo 2020 Dubai is also a truly unique opportunity to express the proud spirit and values of our nation and region ambition, optimism, resilience, hope, inclusivity and understanding. 2 World Market Initiative Expo 2020 Dubai aims to create a powerful connection with its visitors through the range of products offered for sale by participants commercial activities. The objective of this guide is to provide participants with an introduction to the World Market initiative, as well as guidelines for their proposed products. As with previous World Expos, participants are encouraged to integrate commercial activities into their national pavilion s exhibition using creative sourcing. This can be done using different means, from regionally inspired influences like sustainable production, international trends and integrating local chefs and artisans. activities will aim to complement the exhibition as well as showcase the participant countries and what they have to offer to the world. Expo 2020 Dubai recognises that participants are excited in capitalising on the commercial opportunities that will run for the 173 days of the Expo event. Participants are encouraged to leverage these opportunities to create commercial activities that enhance a positive visitor experience in their pavilion and across the Expo site. Inspired by Expo 2020 Dubai s theme and supporting the subthemes, the participants commercial activities will provide a unique touchpoint for visitors to engage, elevating the overall visitor experience. 7 The Organiser has created the World Market as a retail initiative focused on promoting ethical consumerism, allowing Expo 2020 visitors to purchase products that are unique, high quality and ethically produced. These products are produced in a manner that are not harmful to the environment or society, and ensure producers are paid fairly, as well as being provided with suitable and safe working conditions It will offer Thematic District Participants an additional retail opportunity to promote curated stalls, focusing on the promotion of products that are both ethical and culturally significant. It will also give visitors an engaging and unique market experience by giving them access to new products from around the world. The objective of this guide is to provide participants with an introduction to the World Market initiative, as well as guidelines for their proposed products. This technical paper is to be read in conjunction with the Commercial Guide. Standard commercial royalties and policies as detailed in the Commercial Guide will apply to all kiosk sales. 2.1 Products within Kiosks The World Market initiative will allow Thematic District participants an additional retail opportunity for products that are in line with the initiative. This is a great opportunity for participants to showcase their talents, culture and resources on a global platform and increase engagement with their visitors. It will also allow participants to highlight their innovativeness and design capabilities, providing visitors with a tangible object to take home as a connection with a country pavilion, a memory of their experience, or a gift to share passing on the core messages of the pavilion to a much wider audience. The World Market focuses on several families of craft that intertwine with the local craft materials and processes in the UAE. Such materials can be used but are not limited to those shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 Craft Families Safeefa (Natural Fibers) Clay (Sands) Talli (Embroidery) Sadu (Textile) Goldsmith (Metals) Additional product types include, but not limited to: Body care/soap and aromatherapy products Photography Food and beverage items (non-alcoholic) * that do not require preparation and are non-perishable will be permitted, pending approval by Dubai Municipality ** Notes: * Alcoholic food and beverage items are not permitted for sale in the kiosks ** Obtaining approval from relevant food and health authorities is the responsibility of the participant World Market Initiative 9
8 Additionally, participants are encouraged to adopt the following guiding principles for products they intend to sell as part of their World Market initiative. These are products that are: Truly representative of a participant s culture and are connected to the participant s exhibition Sourced and produced in the country of origin Support low-income earning artisans/communities/ families Utilising small and medium enterprises (SMEs), showcasing the design capabilities, manufacturing techniques, and quality workmanship available in the country of origin Sourced ethically Application Process Participants who wish to partake in the World Market initiative must submit a World Market Expression of Interest form, including a list of the products they plan to sell for approval, to their Country Manager by 30 June The submission must include a graphical representation for each product concept as supporting product information. Participants will be notified of their qualification for the World Market Initiative within 20 working days of submission closure. Participants taking part in the World Market Initiative will be required to sign a specific contract with the Organiser. The contract will be shared with participants upon their qualification for the initiative Product Pricing As an inclusive event, Expo 2020 Dubai aspires to have a diverse range of products that cater not only to everyone s taste, but also to their budgets. Participants are encouraged to offer visitors value for money and to ensure that the prices of their products are aligned with the current market value. Participants are required to submit indicative prices for their products to ensure alignment of pricing across the Expo site. Participants are also encouraged to offer a product range with a variety of price points suitable for different visitor groups. Kiosks must clearly display the price of the goods they offer including additional or incorporated taxes such as VAT. All prices must be displayed in Emirati dirham (AED), the national currency of the UAE. Figure 2 Suggested Examples of Kiosk Products 10 World Market Initiative

Figure 3 Kiosks Location Figure 4 Illustration of Kiosks in the Oasis Souk Kiosks will be offered to qualified Thematic District Pavilion participants at no cost for the duration of the Expo event. However, participants will be responsible for the operation and running of their kiosk. 3.1 Location of World Market Kiosks Located in the heart of Expo 2020 Dubai, these uniquely designed kiosks are overlooked by iconic architectural structures and are located mainly in the Oasis Souk and in the Al Forsan Souk. Final locations of participants kiosks will be determined by the Organiser once all the offers have been reviewed and finalised.
