5 Annual Plumbing Inspectin Cmments Lk fr signs f leaks in all expsed pipes, and in areas where pipes run thrugh the walls r fundatin. Lk fr signs f crrsin, which culd indicate a prblem with the water, r with the pipe itself. Watch fr green stains arund brass and cpper fittings and n shutff valves, a sign f either crrsin r electrlysis caused by mismatched metals. This will cause leaks and bad cnnectins if left uncrrected. Check the water pressure. Lw pressure culd mean a prblem with the line r just sediment buildup in the faucet aeratr. Check drains fr speed f drainage - a slw drain may have a clg r a blcked vent pipe. Lk fr a full swirling drain; bubbling drains are a sign f a prblem. Flush the tilets t make sure they perate prperly. Open their tanks and lk fr wrn r missing parts. Then wait arund fr a few minutes t see if the tilet runs after a pause, a sign f a slw leak. Lk inside the burner chamber f the water heater fr rust flakes. Check the flame; it shuld be an even blue, with n yellw. A yellw flame indicates st r a prblem with the gas-air mixture, meaning the jets need cleaning. Drain the water heater t remve sediment that has settled t the bttm. Smetimes leaks in faucets are caused by hard water wearing ut the washers. Watch ut fr cracked tiles sinks. Tap n tiles lking fr lse r hllw nes, which culd be masking rtted backer-bard behind them. Check n the state caulking t see if its time t replace it. Lk fr evidence f mildew where water has a chance t stand fr lnger perids. Manipulate the tilet base t be sure it desn't rck, which might mean a leak has damaged the flr arund it. Lk fr cracks n the tilet tank r bwl r n sinks.
