4 Turkington Lintels (Technical Information) Turkington lintels are available with three surface finishes: Fair Faced. Smooth concrete surface used where lintel will be visible in the completed structure. Rough Faced. The concrete has an irregular surface aiding the adhesion of plaster to this area of the wall. Sandstone Lintels. Lintels are available made to order in reconstituted sandstone. Load limitations Features of the wall being built may cause extra loading on the lintel or limit its carrying capacity. Common examples of these are: Timber floors spanning more than 4.5m bearing above the lintel Concrete floors bearing above the lintel Beams or partition walls bearing above the lintel Window or door openings above the lintel Lintel close to a corner or other opening Low height of walling above the lintel Where any of these features appear within the area of influence, or any doubt exists, a structural engineer should be consulted. Turkington Lintels are designed for use in domestic construction according to BS8110 Part and to carry loads assessed in accordance with BS5977 Part They will support a timber floor construction spanning up to 4.5m (Dead load 0.52kN/m 2, imposed load 1.5kN/m 2). A temporary prop support should be used below all lintels spanning a clear opening of more than 1,200mm until the mortar in the wall above has achieved its design strength. 6 Cill Range Cills are stocked in a range of lengths to suit common window sizes. Nonstandard lengths can be made to order. The cills are normally cast in plain grey concrete. However they can also be manufactured in reconstructed stone, the most usual finishes being sandstone and granite. If needed for particular applications, cills with other cross-sections or plan shapes can be produced.
