Welcome to the world of DNA services! You have chosen a DNA subscription. Congratulations on your excellent choice! This manual will help you make versatile use of your subscription. Please familiarise yourself with it before beginning to use the subscription. The manual includes information on your DNA subscription as well as the services available. Service descriptions of DNA s services are available from DNA s website at Furthermore, this manual describes the kinds of risks a subscription user may encounter and how to avoid them. The SIM card of a DNA subscription can be used in various terminals, including telephones and modems. Please familiarise yourself carefully not only with this manual but also with the manual for the terminal device you are using as well as with the settings and software of your terminal device, since they also affect the use of your subscription. 3

1. How to start using your subscription 1. Insert the SIM card into your phone. The start-up kit includes a personal SIM card. The following numbers have been pre-stored on the card: DNA Customer Service: (free-of-charge from DNA subscriptions) DNA Invoicing information (free-of-charge from DNA subscriptions). Directory assistance service: 118 Without a SIM card, you can call the emergency number only, 112. The SIM card can store at least 250 sets of names and numbers as well as 30 text messages. 2. Switch on the phone. 3. Enter a four-digit PIN code. The default code for your subscription is 1234, but you should change this as soon as you begin using your new subscription. Choose a code that is difficult for others to guess but that you can easily remember. TO CHANGE THE PIN CODE: Press **04*old PIN code*new PIN code*new PIN code#. In many handsets, the code can also be changed via the phone s menu. If you enter an incorrect PIN code three times, your subscription will be locked. To unlock it, you will need an 8-digit PUK code. You can get your PUK code from our Customer Service, tel Your phone is ready for use when the text dna appears on the display. 2. Calling (telephone ready for use, text dna visible on the display) Domestic calls 1. Enter the number you wish to call including the area code, and press the CALL button (usually a green handset symbol). 2. After finishing the call, press the END button (usually a red handset symbol). 4

For example, when calling in Helsinki, dial: Calling an international number from Finland 1. Enter the + character before the number (this replaces the international access code). 2. Enter the country prefix and the area code without the leading number. 3. Enter the recipient s number, and press the CALL button (usually a green handset symbol). 4. After finishing the call, press the END button (usually a red handset symbol). For example, when calling in Stockholm, Sweden, you would dial: , where 46 is the country prefix, 8 the area code without the leading zero, and the call recipient s basic phone number. Calling when abroad You can also use your DNA subscription abroad. Calling from a DNA subscription and data transfer are possible in countries where DNA has a roaming agreement with a local operator. For more detailed information and charges for using the subscription abroad, please see When you are abroad and wish to select a telephone number in Finland using your DNA subscription, dial the number in the international format with +358 and without the leading zero of the recipient s number. We recommend that you store all numbers in your phone in the international format xxxxxxx. You will be charged a separate call reception fee for any incoming calls you answer while abroad. 3. Sending and receiving text messages You can use the Short Message Service (SMS) to send text messages with 160 characters to other mobile phones. Most handsets allow you to link messages, meaning that you can send more than one message at a time. Your subscription s SIM card has enough memory for at least 30 text messages. 5

When you receive a text message, your phone will alert you with a sound signal, and an indication that a message has been received will appear on the display. The wording of this notice will depend on your phone. If the handset is switched off, the indication will appear on the display when you switch the phone on and enter the PIN code. For instructions on writing, sending and reading text messages, please see the user guide for your phone. If you cannot send a text message, check that the message centre number, (DNA s message centre), has been stored in your phone. For instructions on storing message centre numbers, refer to your phone s user manual. To send text messages to Finland from abroad, dial the recipient s number in the international format xxxxxxx. There is no charge for receiving text messages abroad. 4. Call forwarding Call forwarding makes it easier to reach you. 11 Your voice mail number is your phone number with the number 6 added after the operator code. For example, if your phone number is , your voice mail number will be , or if your own number is , your voice mail number will be Note! If you have transferred your mobile phone number to DNA from another operator, you will not be able to determine your voice mail number from your phone number. Instead, you will receive your voice mail number in a text message when you activate the subscription. Useful information about the Voice Mail A message left by a caller has a maximum duration of three minutes (longer messages will be truncated). At the beginning of each message, the reception time is announced. New messages are stored in your voice mail for 10 days. You can listen to messages stored in your voice mail for 10 days. Messages that you have listened to are automatically removed from voice mail storage after three days. DNA Vastaaja holds a maximum of 70 messages. If you forget your password, please contact DNA s customer service department DNA Faksivastaaja For further information, visit our website at DNA Liikkuva Laajakaista DNA Liikkuva Laajakaista is a service entailing a fixed monthly fee. Using this service, you will always know what you are paying, irrespective of time 11

or data transfer volumes. All you need to do is choose the data transfer speed that best suits your needs. The DNA Liikkuva Laajakaista service offers a high-speed, always-available data connection. With this service, you can access DNA Tasku s broad range of services or create an Internet connection on your laptop anywhere within the area covered by the DNA network. A fee in accordance with our price list will be charged for activating the service. The fixed monthly fee for DNA Liikkuva Laajakaista does not include the use of the service in international mobile networks. Instead, a fee based on the international tariff and the data transfer volume used will be charged. Remember that these data transfer services are wireless Internet connections. You should install the appropriate data security software to protect your mobile and computer. DNA Datarajoitus ulkomailla is a balance limit service which aims to control the costs of data transfer abroad. The service protects customers from unexpected data transfer charges when travelling abroad by discontinuing the data transfer connection when the balance limit is reached. This service is automatically activated in all DNA postpaid subscriptions. The default balance limit of the service is 60 per invoicing period DNA Saldorajoitus (Check the availability of the service for your type of subscription) You can select a monthly limit, up to which you are allowed to make voice calls and send text messages. The lowest limit is EUR 15, the next EUR 20. Thereafter, the limits increase in increments of EUR 10 up to EUR 500. A subscription for which the DNA Balance Limit has been activated has class P3 call and message barring as defined by the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority, a feature which prevents outgoing calls and text messages to recreational and adult entertainment services. Please carefully read the Special Conditions enclosed in the start-up kit before ordering the service. When the balance limit you defined has been reached, you will no longer be able to make calls, send text or multimedia messages, or use the data transfer service DNA Dataesto Call or message barring will not prevent the use of data transfer services. Should you wish to prevent the use of data transfer services on your subscription, you can activate the DNA Dataesto. 12

9. Security instructions for subscriptions and terminal devices 9.1. SIM card Store your SIM in a safe place. Do not leave your PIN codes, SIM card, or phone or other terminal devices unattended. If your SIM is lost or stolen, contact DNA Customer Service immediately. Do not store sensitive data on your phone. Use the automatic locking feature and the security code if these functions are available for your phone Barring services The most common barring services include the balance limit and barring outgoing calls and messages to certain numbers, such as adult entertainment services. You can also limit the use of MMS messages, using MMS barring services. Check the content of the barring categories in order to select the call and message barring that best suits your purposes. For more information on the balance limit, please turn to page 16. Please also check the availability of balance limit for your type of subscription Letting others use your phone 9.4. Minors Since mobile phones can be used for spending large sums of money, look after your mobile phone as carefully as you would your credit card. Never lend your phone to somebody you do not know. If you let somebody else use your subscription, please note the following: You may incur unexpected costs from the use of your mobile phone or subscription services, since the phone can be used to make mobile payments Information stored on your phone can be stolen Malware can be installed on most mobile phones Your phone s data security settings can be changed, potentially exposing the phone to misuse (the effects of which may not be immediately noticeable) Think carefully before allowing the subscription to be used by minors. The owner always bears the financial risk if the subscription is handed over to another user. If you wish to give a subscription to a minor, there are risk-free options available with pre-paid airtime. For further information, contact DNA s customer service or visit our website at 13

9.5. Using your mobile near national borders In the vicinity of Finland s national borders, mobile phones always use the strongest signal available if the phone s network selection is set to automatic. Near national borders, you mobile phone may select a network used in the neighbouring country. This means that your incoming and outgoing calls and messages will be charged as if you were using your subscription abroad. Automatic network selection is usually the default, so set the network selection to manual and then select the DNA mobile network as your home network Loss of phone/subscription Store your phone s IMEI code in a separate place in case you lose your phone. If you store information on your phone, find out how to back up your phone s data on a computer or memory card. Remember to back up data regularly. A backup on an additional memory card in the phone is useful if your phone breaks down, but not if the phone is lost or stolen. For instructions on making backups, consult your phone s manufacturer. If your phone is lost or stolen, your data may end up in the wrong hands and someone may steal your identity. If your phone is lost or stolen, contact DNA s customer service staff immediately to disconnect service for your SIM. Notify DNA of the user s personal data, since DNA cannot disconnect the subscription upon the user s request otherwise for example, if the phone is lost. The user may, unless expressly prohibited by you, add free-of-charge and payable services to the subscription Unforeseen cost Remember that people may call you or send messages with the purpose of defrauding you. Prizes, free holidays, or other incentives may be designed to make you call an expensive domestic or foreign number without informing you of the cost. These calls are often purposely prolonged, as the only reason for the call is to add to the caller s phone bill Avoiding malware Connecting the mobile phone to the public Internet can involve threats such as malicious software, also called malware. This may weaken your communication options or endanger the availability and confidentiality of data stored in your phone. Malware such as viruses and worms often spread through attachments. They may also spread directly from Websites you visit when downloading applications. To avoid malware, do not open attachments unless you are absolutely sure of their content. Download programs only from reliable sources, and avoid visits to dubious websites. 14

It is good to remember that even if a multimedia message or with an installable program has been received from a familiar number or address, it may have been sent by malware. For example, if you receive an attachment with an.sis extension in a multimedia message, it may be a malicious program. Unless you are sure that the attachment is safe, you should delete the message immediately. It is your responsibility to look after your terminal device s security and data protection. You can purchase separate anti-virus software available for smartphones. If your phone is contaminated by malware, it can usually be restored to working order by means of free cleaning tools available on the Internet. Read your terminal device s user guide carefully and activate any data security functions available Bluetooth and other wireless technologies Be careful when you use Bluetooth and other wireless technologies. Do not allow other devices to find your Bluetooth or other short range radio frequency, and activate the feature only when you need it. If you do not wish your phone to be visible to other users via Bluetooth, set the Bluetooth connection to be hidden. If your Bluetooth connection is visible, your phone may be targeted by malware. However, malware offered via Bluetooth usually cannot be installed without your permission. If your phone asks you to authorise the installation of an unknown program and you have not selected installation yourself, you should not permit installation. If malware attempts to attack your phone repeatedly via Bluetooth, try moving outside its range. Going to another location within an area of 100 metres is usually enough. Many phones allow you to set up a list of trusted devices, which may connect to your phone via Bluetooth Ordering content services Carefully read the ring tone and/or logo provider s advertisement as well as terms and conditions before ordering. Do not order any services subject to a charge from service providers whose reliability you cannot verify. You may think that you have simply ordered a single ring tone while inadvertently signing for a long-term subscription with an expensive monthly fee. DNA is not liable for the service content or operations of other service providers. In case of problems, primarily contact the service provider in question. 15

10. Useful information Coverage DNA s number one priority is to provide an excellent user experience for network users. In order to ensure this, we have partnered with the world s leading network and terminal suppliers. DNA subscriptions use our nationwide mobile network, which has been created using state-of-the-art technology. The quality and coverage of this network is monitored by means of regular tests, while coverage is improved on the basis of customer feedback. At present, over 90 per cent of the people in Finland live within the reach of DNA s 3G network. Over the past year, the network has been expanded by adding new base stations and modernising network technology. In a few years, DNA s 3G network will be accessible to almost all people living in Finland. The data transfer speed of DNA s mobile communication network varies regionally, subject to factors such as the technology applied. You can check the areas covered by the various network technologies on our website: Invoicing We will invoice our customers once a month. If the sum on the invoice is below the minimum limit, the charges will be carried over to the next month s invoice. The invoice lists: the calls made during the invoicing period the monthly fee for the subscription the text messages sent, and other services used with the DNA subscription. The monthly charges for your subscription and its additional services will be invoiced for the same period as your subscription s call charges. Visit for further information Number portability When you transfer to DNA from another operator, you may retain your current number, including the operator prefix. In practice, the number is transferred from one operator to another so that the customer signs a subscription contract with the desired operator and receives a new SIM card from that operator. Your subscription will not be interrupted during the transfer. The transfer process will take five workdays. An additional couple of days are required from 16

the time the subscription contract is signed until the transfer process is activated. Services connected to the previous subscription are not transferred automatically alongside the subscription. You can order the additional services from DNA separately. If you wish to know which operator holds a specific number, go to or call free-of-charge. 11. More information Personal customer service Our customer service experts will also help you with all your queries pertaining to DNA subscriptions or our other services by telephone, at Calls are free-of-charge when placed from a DNA subscription. Calls from other subscriptions are payable according to your operator s tariffs. When you are calling from abroad, the normal price for international calls will be charged. Send feedback If you want to offer praise or blame concerning DNA subscription or other DNA activities, the easiest way to do this is by using the feedback form at DNA s feedback form is also a good way to contact DNA about our services and products. You can find out more at or on our customer support page at 17
