1 Some interesting places in PARIS! Capital of the arts, city light, recognized all over the world as one of the most beautiful cities, Paris have an enormous cultural wealth that we owe not only to its history but also to its huge patrimony. Through its monuments, its museums, its numerous buildings, its libraries, its famous persons, Paris transports us through time and space Here is a selection of monuments and quarters not to be missed!
2 Eiffel Tower For the Universal Exhibition of 1889, a date which marked the centenary of the French Revolution, the Official Newspaper launched a major competition to study the possibility of erecting an iron on the Champ de Mars. The tower would have a square base, 125m on each side and 300m high. The project proposal by the entrepreneur Gustave Eiffel, engineers Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguien and the architect Stephen Sauvestre was chosen out of a total of 107. Lightings each hour If the tower began its life as an attraction in the 1920s, it became a symbol of modernity. Little by little its image became associated with Paris, to the point where it became the city s symbol around the world. Since 1998, over 6 million people have visited each year the Grand Iron lady. In 2003 the tower celebrated the fact that it has welcomed over 200 million visitors in 114 years. Because of the size and the structure, the Eiffel Tower has inspired extremely sophisticated and original lighting innovations as you can see on those pictures. Some figures: weighs more than tones, has steps and requires 50 tones of painting every 7 years! Chinese New Year French presidency of the European Union It s situated only at 10 minutes by foot from ECE School. In front of the Eiffel Tower you can walk to the Trocadero. It worth just for the splendid view of the tower. Subway station: M6 Bir Hakeim Station / RER C: Champ de Mars World cup of rugby 2008

5 Notre-Dame-de-Paris / Ile de la Cité Notre Dame de Paris is on the Ile de la Cité. The ile de la cité was the center of ancient lutetium medieval Paris and the contemporary capital. The ile de la cité was the cradle of Gaul s lutetium and the birthplace of Roman River commerce, which, from the 1st century to today, made the Parisian boaters wealthy. In the 9th century, small churches were built on the square in front of the cathedral to protect relics from Norman pillages. In around 11000, the Ile de la Cité had a population around 3000 which included the clerks, ecclesiastical schools and servants of the Royal Place. In the 12th century, Maurice de Sully, who was a bishop of Paris at the time, began construction on a new Cathedral on the site of two former places of worship: Notre Dame de Paris and Saint Stephen Subway Station: M4 Cité
6 Latin Quarter, Saint Germain des Près Latin and Saint Germain des Près Quarter are one of the places in Paris where there are the most museum and monuments: Institute of the Word Arabic, Cluny s museum, National museum of natural history and the garden of plants. Twelve avenues shine from the arc what explains the reason for which the place is also named Square of the Star. Monument of the glory of the Grande Army was ordered by Napoleon. All the statues which decorate the place represent 8 French big cities (Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Nantes, Rouen, Brest, Lille and Strasbourg).
