BUSINESS/PERSONAL MATH, BMGMT #140 ONLINE This is not the course syllabus and contains general information only. This online Business Math course does not use ANGLE OR BLACKBOARD. Professor: Hella-Ilona Johnson Phone: Dates: See OC Annual Schedule Office: Business Hours: Vary by Quarter Text: Business Math (current edition), Cleaves & Hobbs; Pearson Prentice Hall CourseCompass/MyMathLab Student Course Access Code Study Guide use is recommended but optional Other Materials: All (3) items are sold as a package in the OC Bookstore. Study guide is recommended but optional. When contained in textbook package its cost is typically negligible or free. The Student Access Code can be purchased separately, apx $80. While this is not recommended, it does provide access to a free online etextbook. Scientific Calculator - don t spend more than $20. A Scientific calculator will allow you to leave rounding till the final answer. No other electronic devices will be allowed during the Comprehensive Final Exam. No cell phones, IPODS, etc even though they may also contain a calculating function. The Instructor Course ID is free of charge after enrollment and can be found at The course info link is in the Menu at the left side of the opening page. Contact the publisher for a free 2 week access period if you are unable to purchase your access code before the 3 rd day. Go to
This is not the course syllabus and contains general information only. How to Enroll: (1) enroll using OC s regular registration procedures. (2) using your individual Student Access Code, the Instructor Course ID, and your address, go to and log in to the online classroom. (3) Students not logged in to the online classroom by the 3 rd day of the quarter will be dropped. Statistics indicate that students who are not prepared to participate on the first day, are typically not be able to catch up, and therefore are less likely to be successful in the course. Tests have strict deadlines and begin the second week. Students should wait to take the course when they have textbooks and access codes available to them by the weekend before the class begins. Want to take a tour of a CourseCompass classroom site before you enroll? Go to (4) How to Get Technical Help for your first log in: Go to This site should provide you with technical assistance with navigating, computer issues and other technical support issues. You can choose from talking with someone online or over the phone ( ). Please use this resource for technical, computer or navigation questions rather than contacting your instructor. (5) Policies: s received before 9 AM Monday Thursday will typically receive a response within 48 hours, excluding holidays, school vacation breaks, technical interruptions and inclement weather. The address hjohnson@olympic.edu should be used for all student communications. For all Olympic College students: The official address used to communicate with you is the Olympic College-assigned student address. Your address is your full firstname and lastname with at the end. (For example: johndoe@student.olympic.edu) For more information and to access your student go to:
Homework: Students are required to complete all homework at a 70% accuracy rate, before allowing students to move on to Practice or Graded Tests. Homework is completed in an area of the classroom that contains special software called MyMathLab. Students should always use to get to the classroom site. At the CourseCompass Homepage, sign in and click on our course (Cleaves Business Math Brief current ed.). Once at the classroom Announcement Page click on a specific Chapter Menu Buttons and then the corresponding Homework Links. Most students save the CourseCompass sign in page link under their My Favorites web site addresses. Entering the classroom this way assures students access to the Course Announcement Page which contains important announcements from your instructor about course changes or Final Exam information. Tests The course is structured in a format that encourages student success by providing more frequent testing opportunities. This should reduce stress levels and allows students to demonstrate their competency of course outcomes throughout the entire term, rather than on just a mid-term and final schedule. Tests are weekly, have strict deadlines, and are timed for 90 minutes. Deadline Extension Testing Coupons Students will typically be completing one graded test per week, which must be completed before an identified cutoff date. Please do not procrastinate, since the system will not administer the test after the deadline. Remember you must complete your homework before taking a test. During the quarter each student will be given (3) free coupons. Each coupon can be used to extend (1) Weekly Graded Test deadline for (3) additional days. Longer periods of time require that an additional coupon be redeemed. These coupons are especially useful when experiencing technical or other computer problems and serve to facilitate an equitable environment in which all students are held to
the same accountability. Any other missed testing deadlines will receive a zero. Practice Tests Students have the opportunity to take a practice test as many times as you wish. This is strongly recommended. Errors on these tests are identified for you.. Comprehensive Final Students must appear in person at a scheduled location to take a Comprehensive Final Exam. Photo Id will be required. To receive a passing final course grade, a student must complete the Final Exam, regardless of the student s overall course percentage. Students experiencing an undue hardship may request an approved alternate testing location. Expectations Successful students tend to be independent learners that are not easily frustrated and who are proficient readers. Spending at least 3 hours a day during 5 days of the week, and avoiding marathon study sessions can also increase a student s ability to be successful in the course. Students may complete the course within an earlier timeframe and work ahead. Approximate Grading Components: 7 Tests 45% Comprehensive Final 30% Homework 25% Scores and graded percentages are calculated for students in a personal GRADEBOOK. CONTINUE TO SCROLL DOWN TO A TENTATIVE COURSE SCHEDULE
This is not the course syllabus and contains general information only. Suggested Order of Topics This is only a suggested schedule. The actual course schedule is identified by chapter and date on the Menu Buttons on the left side of our classroom Announcement Page.
