4 1 Guarantee WARNING : The change of a BSI under guarantee is subject to an approval request. 2 Contacting your assistance team 2.1 Introduction Before contacting assistance, please be ready with the following elements: s. of the procedures implemented (G01 to G13) The sequence used (S0x) The stage you have reached (depends on the procedure being used) 2.2 Example of the type of information you need to provide You have implemented procedure G10 (Wipers), sequence S06 corresponding to «Check on windscreen wiper function» and you have arrived at stage N in the flow chart. You will say to your contact : G10 - S Recommendations - precautions Before any consequent operation, it is essential to check : the battery voltage, the fuses, that the BSI is not in back-up mode (see : Preliminary checks on the BSI below). 5 4 Functions The air conditioning function is managed by more than one ECU. WARNING : This procedure only permits testing of the BSI, not of the complete air conditioning function. The electrical control of the aircon compressor clutch is a direct electrical output of the BSI. 5 Configuration A certain number of configuration parameters are memorised in the BSI. Parameters relating to configuration of the air conditioning function : Parameter «Presence of air conditioning» ( / ) Parameter «Presence of air conditioning regulated for air temperature and air flow (RFTD)» Parameter «VAN air conditioning option» Parameter «Air conditioning option without diagnosis» Parameter «Type of air conditioning» For vehicles equipped with fully automatic air conditioning (RFTA), check that the air conditioning ECU is on the status: present (Configuration: ECUs present). WARNING : The display of the configuration parameters depends on their presence in the BSI software. The parameters featured will be displayed by the diagnostic tool either partially or in totality according to the software version of the BSI. You can access the parameters after starting communication with the BSI using a diagnostic tool and selecting the menu MANUAL PROGRAMMING then CONFIGURATION. Page 5 / 9

6 6 [G12][S00] Preliminary checks on the BSI Stage 1 Identification of a BSI in back-up mode: - First case: When the ignition is switched on (+APC), the vehicle s sidelamps come on, the windscreen wiper operates in intermittent wipe, - Second case: With the engine running, the dipped beams come on, the windscreen wiper operates in intermittent wipe. Does the BSI show symptoms of being in back-up mode? End procedure Stage 2 Check the fuses, the supplies of the BSI repair if necessary Stage 3 Using a diagnostic tool, start communication with the BSI, select the menu «IDENTIFICATION» Are you able to read the software version (*) of the BSI? (*)(or the software edition) Go to stage 4 Go to stage 10 Page 6 / 9

7 Stage 4 Is the BSI new? (coming from Replacement Parts) Stage 5 Prior to end June 2004: Removal of the BSI authorised. From beginning July 2004: Download the BSI using the procedure for downloading of blank ECUs Stage 6 Has the BSI been downloaded previously? Stage 8 Go to stage 10 Stage 7 Renew the downloading of the BSI at least three times. At the third attempt, the removal of the BSI is authorised. Page 7 / 9

8 Stage 10 Using a diagnostic tool, start communication with the BSI. Select the menu «ACTUATOR TEST» then «LIGHTING / SIGNALLING» Carry out an actuator test on the horn Did the horn work? Stage 12 Using a diagnostic tool, start communication with the BSI. Select the menu «ACTUATOR TEST» then «LIGHTING / SIGNALLING» Carry out an actuator test on the dipped beams. Stage 11 Check the harness and the wiring Change the switch module under the steering wheel. The BSI is not the cause, removal not authorised Did the dipped beams come on? Stage 13: End procedure The BSI is at fault, removal authorised Stage 14: End procedure The Engine Relay Unit is faulty. The BSI is not the cause, removal not authorised Page 8 / 9

9 7 [G12][S01] pictogramme displayed on the air conditioning control panel If no pictogramme appears on the air conditioning control panel display, whatever actions are effected on the air conditioning adjustment controls : Use a diagnostic tool to start communication with the air conditioning ECU Read the faults In the absence of faults, replacement of the BSI is not authorised, contact your technical assistance. 8 [G12][S02] The air conditioning does not produce cold air Operations to be performed : Using the diagnostic tool, start communication with the BSI. Select the menu «ACTUATOR TEST» then «Air conditioning» Perform the actuator test «Air conditioning compressor control» If the compressor clutch is activated, The BSI is not the cause, replacement not authorised (check the air conditioning function safety devices).
