1 6. A: A/C OR SELF-DIAGNOSIS SYSTEMS DO NOT OPERATE TROUBLE SYMPTOM: Set temperature is not indicated on the display, switch LEDs are faulty or switches do not operate. Self-diagnosis system does not operate. WIRING DIAGRAM: F/B No.7 IGNITION SWITCH SBF- SBF- BATTERY M/B No. B0 i0 0 i9 AUTO A/C CONTROL MODULE E i9 (GRAY) B AC-07 AC(diag)-
2 HVAC SYSTEM (AUTO A/C) (DIAGNOSTICS) CHECK FUSE. Is the fuse blown out? Replace the fuse. Go to step. ) Turn the ignition switch to OFF. ) Remove the fuse No. from main fuse box. ) Check the condition of fuse. CHECK FUSE. ) Turn the ignition switch to OFF. ) Remove the fuse No. 7 from fuse & relay box. ) Check the condition of fuse. Is the fuse blown out? Replace the fuse. Go to step. CHECK AUTO A/C CONTROL MODULE POWER CIRCUIT. ) Pull out the auto A/C control module connector. ) Measure the voltage between auto A/C control module connector terminal and chassis ground after turning the ignition switch OFF. (i9) No. (+) Chassis ground ( ): CHECK AUTO A/C CONTROL MODULE POWER CIRCUIT. Measure the voltage between auto A/C control module connector terminal and chassis ground after turning the ignition switch to the ON position. (i9) No. (+) Chassis ground ( ): CHECK AUTO A/C CONTROL MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT. Measure the resistance of harness between auto A/C control module and chassis ground after turning the ignition switch to the ON position. (i9) No. Chassis ground: 6 CHECK POOR CONTACT. Check poor contact of auto A/C control module connector. Is the voltage 0 V or more? Go to step. Repair the short for power supply line. Is the voltage 0 V or more? Go to step. Repair the short for power supply line. Is the resistance less than Ω? Go to step 6. Is there poor contact in the connector? Repair the connector. Repair the short for ground line. Replace the auto A/C control module. AC(diag)-
3 B: BLOWER FAN DOES NOT ROTATE TROUBLE SYMPTOM: Blower motor does not rotate. Blower motor does not change speeds. 4 HVAC SYSTEM (AUTO A/C) (DIAGNOSTICS) CHECK FUSE. Is any of the fuses blown out? Replace the fuse. Go to step. ) Remove fuse No., and 7 from fuse & relay box. ) Check the condition of fuse. CHECK POWER SUPPLY FOR BLOWER MOTOR. ) Turn the ignition switch to ON. ) Turn the fan speed control dial to the right. ) Measure the voltage between blower motor and chassis ground. (B87) No. (+) Chassis ground ( ): Is the voltage 8 V or more (at normal temperature)? Go to step. circuit of blower motor power supply line harness. CHECK BLOWER MOTOR RELAY. ) Turn the ignition switch to OFF. ) Remove the blower motor relay. ) Connect the battery positive (+) terminal to terminal No. of blower motor connector, and negative ( ) terminal to terminal No.. ) Measure the resistance between terminals No. and. Terminals No. No. : CHECK BLOWER MOTOR. ) Disconnect the connector from the blower motor. ) Connect the battery positive (+) terminal to terminal No. of the blower motor connector, and negative ( ) terminal to terminals No. and. ) Make sure the blower motor runs. CHECK POOR CONTACT. Check poor contact of auto A/C control module connector. Is the resistance less than Ω? Go to step. Replace the blower motor relay. Does the blower motor run? Go to step. Replace the blower motor. Is there poor contact in the connector? Repair the connector. Replace the auto A/C control module. AC(diag)-
5 C: COMPARTMENT TEMPERATURE DOES NOT CHANGE, OR A/C SYSTEM DOES NOT RESPOND PROMPTLY TROUBLE SYMPTOM: Compartment temperature does not change. A/C system does not respond quickly. CHECK POWER SUPPLY FOR PRESSURE SWITCH. ) Disconnect the connector from the pressure switch. ) Turn the ignition switch to ON. ) Measure the voltage between pressure switch harness connector and chassis ground. (B7) No. (+) Chassis ground ( ): CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN PRESSURE SWITCH AND A/C RELAY. ) Turn the ignition switch to OFF. ) Remove the A/C relay of the fuse box. ) Measure the resistance of the A/C relay and pressure switch connector. Non-turbo model (F7) No. 7 (B7) No. : Turbo model (F9) No. 7 (B7) No. : CHECK PRESSURE SWITCH. Measure the resistance between the pressure switch terminals. Terminals No. No. : Is the voltage 0 V or more? Go to step. of pressure switch power supply circuit. Is the resistance less than Ω? Go to step. Is the resistance less than Ω? Go to step. CHECK A/C CUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT. ) Disconnect the connector from the auto A/C control module. ) Measure the resistance between the auto A/ C control module and the pressure switch connector. (i8) No. 0 (B7) No. : Is the resistance less than Ω? Go to step 6. 6 CHECK A/C ON SIGNAL CIRCUIT. Is the resistance less than Ω? Go to step 7. ) Disconnect the connectors from ECM. ) Measure the resistance between the ECM and the auto A/C control module connector. Non-turbo model (B6) No. (i9) No. 7: Turbo model (B6) No. (i9) No. 7: 7 CHECK A/C RELAY. ) Remove the A/C relay of the fuse box. ) Check the A/C relay. <Ref. to AC-, INSPECTION, Relay and Fuse.> Does the relay operate normally? Go to step 8. circuit of the harness between the A/C relay and pressure switch. Replace the pressure switch. circuit of the harness between auto A/C control module and pressure switch. circuit of the harness between auto A/C control module and ECM. Replace the A/C relay. AC(diag)-8
8 HVAC SYSTEM (AUTO A/C) (DIAGNOSTICS) Go to step 9. 8 CHECK POWER SUPPLY TO MAGNET CLUTCH OF A/C COMPRESSOR. ) Turn the ignition switch to OFF, and connect the A/C relay and all disconnected connectors. ) Start the engine and turn the A/C switch ON. ) Turn the temperature control dial at maximum cool position. ) Measure the voltage between magnet clutch connector and chassis ground. (F) No. (+) Chassis ground ( ): Is the voltage 0. V or more (at normal temperature)? 9 CHECK MAIN FAN MOTOR OPERATION. ) Start the engine. ) Turn on the A/C switch. ) Check the operation of the main fan motor. 0 CHECK POWER SUPPLY TO MAIN FAN MO- TOR. CAUTION: Be careful not to overheat the engine during repair. ) Turn the ignition switch to OFF. ) Disconnect the connector from the main fan motor. ) Start the engine, and warm it up until engine coolant temperature increases over 00 C ( F). ) Stop the engine and turn the ignition switch to ON. ) Measure the voltage between main fan motor connector and chassis ground. (F7) No. (+) Chassis ground ( ): CHECK MAIN FAN MOTOR GROUND CIR- CUIT. ) Turn the ignition switch to OFF. ) Measure the resistance between main fan motor connector and chassis ground. (F7) No. Chassis ground: CHECK MAIN FAN MOTOR. Connect the positive terminal (+) of the battery to No. terminal of the main fan motor connector, and the negative ( ) terminal to No. terminal. Check that the main fan motor is running. CHECK POOR CONTACT OF THE MAIN FAN MOTOR CONNECTOR. Check poor contact of main fan motor connector. Does the main fan motor operate normally? of the A/C compressor power circuit. Go to step. Go to step 0. Is the voltage 0 V or more? Go to step. of main fan motor power supply circuit. Is the resistance less than Ω? Go to step. of main fan motor ground circuit. Is the main fan motor rotating? Go to step. Replace the main fan motor with a new one. Is there poor contact in the connector? CHECK SUB FAN MOTOR OPERATION. Does the sub fan motor operate ) Start the engine and turn the A/C switch ON. normally? ) Check the operation of the sub fan motor. Go to step. Repair the poor contact of main fan motor connector.
