You will say to your contact : G10 - S Recommendations - precautions Before any consequent operation, it is essential to check : the battery voltage, the fuses, that the BSI is not in back-up mode (see : Preliminary checks on the BSI below). Page 5 / 25
5 Functions 5.1 Windscreen wipe : Windscreen wipe in fast speed is controlled electrically by the engine relay unit. Windscreen wipe in slow speed is controlled electrically by the BSI. The fixed stop switch for windscreen wipe is linked to the engine relay unit. 5.2 Rear screen wipe : Rear screen wipe is controlled electrically by the BSI. The fixed stop switch(es) are linked to the BSI. 5.3 Rain sensor : There is more than one type of rain sensor : Wire rain sensor, fitted on C8, C5 (up to 9617), Multiplexed rain sensor, fitted on C2, C3, C3 Pluriel, Xsara 2, Xsara Picasso, C5 (from RPO 9618). 5.4 Activation of automatic wipe The automatic wipe function is activated by moving the wiper stalk to the «Auto» position. Activation of the automatic wipe function is confirmed by one sweep of the windscreen wipe in slow speed. After the ignition has been switched off, it is necessary to reactivate the function each time when restarting. Page 6 / 25
5.5 Back-up modes of the automatic wipe function : Possible cases : If the rain sensor is in back-up mode and automatic wipe activated, the windscreen wipers function in intermittent wipe, If there is a break in communication between the BSI and the engine relay unit, the engine relay unit commands the wipers in slow speed intermittent wipe, If there is a break in communication between the switch module under the steering wheel and the BSI, the windscreen wipers function in slow speed intermittent wipe. 5.6 Impact of the function in the BSI 6 Configuration A certain number of configuration parameters are memorised in the BSI : Parameter «Sensitivity of the automatic wipe function» (adjustable from 0 to 15) (Multiplexed rain sensor), Parameter «Rain sensor option» (yes/no), Parameter «Rain / sunlight sensor option» (yes/no). WARNING : The display of the configuration parameters depends on their presence in the BSI software. The parameters featured will be displayed by the diagnostic tool either partially or in totality according to the software version in the BSI. You can access the parameters after starting communication with the BSI using a diagnostic tool and selecting the menu MANUAL PROGRAMMING then CONFIGURATION. Page 7 / 25
7 [G10][S00] Preliminary checks on the BSI Stage 1 Identification of a BSI in back-up mode: - First case: When the ignition is switched on (+APC), the vehicle s sidelamps come on, the windscreen wiper operates in intermittent wipe, - Second case: With the engine running, the dipped beams come on, the windscreen wiper operates in intermittent wipe. Does the BSI show symptoms of being in back-up mode? No Yes End procedure Stage 2 Check the fuses, the supplies of the BSI repair if necessary Stage 3 Using a diagnostic tool, start communication with the BSI, select the menu «IDENTIFICATION» Are you able to read the software version (*) of the BSI? (*)(or the software edition) Yes Go to stage 4 No Go to stage 10 Page 8 / 25
Stage 4 Is the BSI new? (coming from Replacement Parts) Yes Stage 5 Prior to end June 2004: Replacement of the BSI authorised. From beginning July 2004: Download the BSI using the procedure for downloading of blank ECUs No Stage 6 Has the BSI been downloaded previously? Yes No Stage 8 Go to stage 10 Stage 7 Renew the downloading of the BSI at least three times. At the third attempt, the replacement of the BSI is authorised. Page 9 / 25
Stage 10 Using a diagnostic tool, start communication with the BSI. Select the menu «ACTUATOR TEST» then «LIGHTING / SIGNALLING» Carry out an actuator test on the horn Did the horn work? Stage 11 Check the harness and the wiring Change the switch module under the steering wheel. The BSI is not the cause, replacement not authorised Did the dipped beams come on? Yes No Stage 13: End procedure The BSI is at fault, replacement authorised Stage 14: End procedure The Engine Relay Unit is faulty. The BSI is not the cause, replacement not authorised Page 10 / 25
8 [G10][S01] Windscreen wipe and windscreen wash not working Thiis procedure is divided into two stages, depending on the vehicle definition. Use the stage that applies to the vehicles as in the following table : Vehicle Stage to use C2 Stage 1 C3 Stage 1 C3 Pluriel Stage 1 Xsara 2 (from RPO 9002) Stage 2 Berlingo 2 (up to RPO 9856) Stage 1 Berlingo 2 (after RPO 9856) Stage 2 Xsara Picasso (RPO 9492 to RPO 9867) Stage 1 Xsara Picasso (after RPO 9867) Stage 2 C5 (up to RPO 9617) Stage 2 C5 (RPO 9618 to RPO 9867) Stage 1 C5 (after RPO 9868) Stage 2 C8 Stage 2 Page 11 / 25
8.1 [G10][S01] Stage 1 Preliminary operations : check that the BSI software is up-to-date, download if necessary. To solve the problem, carry out the following operations : the vehicle must be operational, sidelamps switched off, make sure that ECO mode is not active (if necessary start the engine), switch on the ignition (ignition+), disconnect the 6-way grey connector of the switch module under the steering wheel, wait for the sidelamps to come on (change to back-up mode of the BSI), switch off the ignition, wait for the BSI to go to sleep (listen for the clicking of the relay in the BSI, approx. 1 minute and thirty seconds) (*), reconnect the 6-way grey connector of the switch module under the steering wheel, switch on the ignition (ignition+), switch off the ignition, Place the wiper stalk in the «auto» position (automatic wipe), Place the wiper stalk in the «0» position», the wipers should be in the park position, Wait for the end of the sweep, you can switch the ignition back on (*) During this phase, do not move any door or action any electrical control, the diagnostic tool must not be reconnected to the vehicle. If the problem is still present, apply the checking procedure [G10][S04] «Checking the windscreen wipe function». Page 12 / 25
8.2 [G10][S01] Stage 2 Check that the BSI software is up-to-date, download the BSI if necessary. If the problem persists, apply the checking procedure [G10][S04] «Checking the windscreen wipe function». 9 [G10][S02] In «Automatic wipe», the speed or intermittence of the windscreen wipe is unsuitable. 9.1 Vehicles CITROËN C8 and CITROËN C5 (up to RPO 9617) (wire rain sensor) Operations to be carried out (without a diagnostic tool) : check the rain sensor (using water), check that the interior side of the windscreen is clean, check the positioning of the sensor on the windscreen. WARNING : The BSI is not at fault, replacement not authorised. 9.2 Vehicles CITROËN C2, C3, C3 Pluriel, Xsara 2 (after RPO 9001), Xsara Picasso (after RPO 9492), C5 (after RPO 9618) These vehicles are equipped with a multiplexed rain sensor. Operations to be carried out: Using a diagnostic tool, start communication with the BSI, Select the menus MANUAL PROGRAMMING - CONFIGURATION, Check the parameter «Sensitivity of the automatic wipe function» (adjustable from 0 to 15) (multiplexed rain sensor). Operations to be carried out (without a diagnostic tool) : check the rain sensor (using water), check that the interior side of the windscreen is clean, check the positioning of the sensor on the windscreen. WARNING : The BSI is not at fault, replacement not authorised. Page 13 / 25
