1 Information sheet, EMEA 3, Asian universities Name of university: Mahidol University Profile of the university (max. 15 lines): Our history dates back over 120 years to the founding of the medical school at Thailand s first hospital - Siriraj Hospital. With great honor, the university was renamed Mahidol University in 1969 by H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej in memory of his father, H.R.H Prince Mahidol of Songkla, who is regarded the Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health in Thailand. Since that time, Mahidol University has continued to grow and diversify into a comprehensive research university. It is today offering expertise in science, medicine, veterinary science, engineering, arts and humanities, social science, business, music, languages and culture. It is now one of the region s top universities, internationally renowned for the high caliber of its teaching, research, and healthcare. The university is also Thailand s leading advocate of the internationalization of higher education in Thailand and almost 50% of its degree programs are international (Taught in English). Mahidol University has also made numerous breakthroughs concerning the mechanism and management of infectious diseases and taken medical research from its laboratories to patients bedsides. Course catalogue: Student facilities: Mahidol University is well-equipped with modern facilities for teaching and research purposes. These include lecture theatres, research laboratories, state-of-the-art computer labs, and an electronically-linked library and information network that allows students access to research data-bases worldwide. In addition, a wide range of modern sport facilities for both indoor and outdoor activities are available for use in both competitive sports and physical exercise. Staff and students are also covered by the University s health insurance toward treatments at any of the University s four hospitals. Shuttle services, which commute between the three Bangkok locations and Salaya, are available throughout the day. Other student services include accommodation placement, a language support center and counseling services.
