Please note that interviews will take place week of the 24 th of August 2015 Post Summary The ADAPT Centre, the centre for digital content technology, hosted by the School of Computer Science & Statistics, is seeking to appoint a Project Manager to facilitate the management of Targeted Industry led research projects. Working at the boundary of research and industry, the ADAPT Centre research programme is structured into a Platform Research Programme conducting foundational research, and a Targeted Research Programme conducting industry led research while applying foundational results. This Targeted Research Programme is an industry focused programme where teams of researchers and software developers collaborate with industry partners to work on solutions to their industry needs. These projects are called targeted projects and are developed and specified in close collaboration with Industry Partners.

2 This role is required to ensure the successful delivery of multiple, concurrent Targeted Projects in the Intelligent Content and Media and Localisation areas to timeframe, cost, quality and to funding partners expectations. The Project Manager will nurture and strengthen relationships with industry partners, address their business challenges through the identification and application of ADAPT research expertise and research outcomes in Targeted Projects. Industry participation is key to the ability of the centre to deliver economic and commercial impact, and also to sustainability. Background on ADAPT ADAPT is Ireland s global centre of excellence for digital content technology. Led by Trinity College Dublin, and hosted by the School of Computer Science & Statistics, it combines the expertise of researchers at four universities (Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, University College Dublin, and Dublin Institute of Technology) with that of its industry partners to produce ground breaking digital content innovations. ADAPT brings together more than 120 researchers who collectively have won more than 100m in funding and have a strong track record of transferring world leading research and innovations to more than 140 companies. With 50M in new research funding from Science Foundation Ireland and industry, ADAPT is seeking talented individuals to join its growing research team. 3 Standard duties and Responsibilities of the Post The project manager will endeavour to nurture and strengthen relationships with Industry Partners and address their business challenges through the identification and application of ADAPT research expertise and through effective project management. Work closely with the customer and/or Product Owner and Scrum Master(s) to understand customer requirements and priorities and ensure these are aligned with the research and software development teams activities In collaboration with the Design & Innovation Manager, Senior Project Manager and Targeted Project team, the Project Manager will: o Lead on and mobilise the agreed project methodology with team members and other stakeholders o Define the project plan this includes: project scope definition, work break down, resource planning, schedule development, budgeting and reporting requirements Drive the execution of the plan, monitor performance of all aspects of the project, resolve issues or escalate as required Manage a set of Targeted Projects Ensure that all project deliverables (including research objectives) are to the appropriate levels of quality, on time and within budget, in accordance with the project plan and coherent with the overall project objectives. Co ordinate and communicate with the project team and all of the stakeholders on all aspects of project progression and status Monitor and report on the workload of the team and provide financial reporting Ensure intellectual property assets are managed appropriately ensuring industry partner confidentiality as needed Help drive the innovation pipeline from Platform Research to Targeted Projects while developing and nurturing the relationship with the Platform Research Management Team

4 Support the client management function of the ADAPT Centre to ensure industry satisfaction and identification of potential opportunities for future business Funding Information This position is funded through the Science Foundation Ireland ADAPT Research Centre. Person Specification Qualifications Candidates appointed to this post must have a primary degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline. Knowledge & Experience (Essential & Desirable) The successful candidates must have a minimum of 5 years project management experience in a software development environment, or with industry focussed research projects. Preference will be given to candidates with industry based project management experience. Experience of traditional and agile methodologies (Essential) Experience in leading/supporting distributed teams (Essential) Excellent communication skills (Essential) Experience with supporting user trials and/or system performance evaluations (Essential) Familiarity with the scientific evaluation and publication process (Essential) Experience with designing and mobilizing the project management process (Essential) Experience of driving the entire project lifecycle (Essential) Professional accreditation(s) in software development or project management methodologies is an advantage. Synergies in areas such as digital content, telecommunications, computer vision and ubiquitous computing, combined with cutting edge statistical learning research has provided a rare environment in which today members of SCSS exploit the emergence of data and its analysis as a driver in many fields of computer science and statistics. Comprising 68 academics and over 100 research staff, the School is internationally recognized for the quality of its research and teaching and is ranked in the top 100 Computer Science Schools worldwide as well as the highest ranked in Ireland. The School hosts two Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Research Centres: ADAPT and CONNECT, and is a partner in a further two: LERO and INSIGHT. Four of TCD s multidisciplinary research themes, namely

The School currently coordinates six European Commission projects and is partner in a further seven. The School signed research contracts of approximately 54 million over the last three years from a range of national and international agencies such as SFI, Enterprise Ireland as well as the European Commission s Seventh and Horizon 2020 Framework Programmes.
