4 1 We are a Multidisciplinary Design Studio VERSA works with Developers, Designers and Architects to prepare visualization and marketing presentations for architectural projects, feasibility studies and interior design concepts. We help our clients realize their vision. 9 Commerce Street New York, NY Client: Leslie J. Garfield & Co. As a speculative real estate venture in Manhattan s vibrant Greenwich Village, 9 Commerce Street was purchased in 2007 and completely gutted in the anticipation of a full renovation. The property has remained vacant and is currently for sale. Representatives from Leslie J Garfield & Co. commissioned VERSA to develop an overall design vision for the 4 story West Village townhouse and produce a sectional rendering showing the potential of this empty shell. The program includes a kitchen level with dining room, living level at the street Commerce Street entry and three bedrooms with the master bedroom suite occupying the top level with access to a rooftop patio. This visualization was incorporated into a comprehensive marketing package for presentation to prospective buyers. Our staff is well versed in cutting edge digital tools and offers professional courses in 3D visualization. We are able to work with our clients on-site or from a remote location. Lexington Avenue Restaurant New York, NY Client: Icrave Design Studio Located in Midtown Manhattan, this restaurant is scheduled to be the first venue opening on the ground floor of a new upscale hotel. At the request of the client, the interior space was divided into a smaller lounge area with bar and a second larger dining room at the rear of the restaurant. The materials palette and warm incandescent lighting is meant to reflect the dining ambiance of a casual French Bistro. VERSA was commissioned by Icrave Studio to develop a visualization package which would accurately simulate material, lighting and furnishing options for client review during the design development phase. Using the construction drawings and full materials palette, the space was modeled in a virtual environment and rendered with the appropriate mood, incorporating the nuances of photo-realism. Specific parameters of this digital visualization project included design of floor and wall tile incorporating complex, layered textures and precise calibration of lighting and material to create the desired mood for each new interior space, allowing the renderings to bring the design to life. Shangri-la Resort Seychelles Islands Client: Shangri-la Hotels As an elite five star resort on the shore of the Indian Ocean, Shangra-La Hotel is composed of multiple bungalows situated along a stretch of private beachfront property. Each bungalow features a private pool that is cantilevered out over the ocean. All furniture is custom designed and inspired by the textures and forms of tropical plants and local handcrafts. The master bathroom features cut bamboo and stone tile in a woven pattern. The living room includes a backdrop of natural stone and an indoor swing which functions as a dinette bench. The master bedroom features an organically shaped bed, with posts assuming the form of banana leaves. A reading sofa, embedded within a square wall opening, provides a visual link to the living room. VERSA collaborated on the design of this project with a local architect and the photo-realistic images of the interiors were produced by members of the VERSA 3D Visualization team. B-Audio Showroom Manama, Bahrain Client: B-Audio Specialized Multidisciplinary Services Provided Disciplines Fabrication 3D Visualization Interior Design Graphic Design Headquartered in Denmark, B-Audio is one of the most highly regarded designers of high end audio systems. To make their mark in the middle east, The Flagship Experience Store was strategically located in Bahrain to provide this highly respected brand additional exposure to the Saudi Arabian market. The formal and material conception of this flagship experience is inspired by the parabolic, acoustical shapes and nano-mesh materials featured in the company s product line. The rhythm of the curved steel structure is an abstraction of arabesque patterns to appeal to the local market in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Assuming the form of a diamond, a small sound proof room is suspended within the primary structure for demonstrations involving the loudspeaker product line. Since the featured display items are limited to a few propriety sound systems and accessories, the entire store is only 200 square meters in size. A high strength, removable floor panel system allows the displays to be easily and quickly reconfigured. During the Formula 1 season, the shop can easily display up to 4 cars fully equipped with B&O audio systems to highlight their partnership with Audi and Aston Martin. 8 3 Digital Fabrication - Design Consulting We provide Design Services, 3D Visualization and Digital Fabrication consulting for a variety of project types which range from simple furniture or trade show booths to complex geometric forms and pavilions. Pentagonal Feature Wall New York, NY Client: VERSA Research Specialized Multidisciplinary Services Provided Disciplines Design 3D Visualization Fabrication The Pentagonal Feature Wall is a hybridized mesh that functions simultaneously as structure and building envelope. A variable hinge connection detail was developed to join cellular forms together in a packed configuration. The variable hinge creates a secondary connective geometry that allows the system to bend around any surface thereby enabling the pentagonal bubbles (primary cells) to retain their shape. The wall is skewed into an S-Shape, both in plan and section, to distribute weight equally and allow the entire assembly to be freestanding. The system was parametrically generated using the software Rhino and Grasshopper, and the cells can be digitally mapped onto any free form surface. The system was designed to be as seamless as possible, with each cell containing multiple folds achieved by heating the acrylic and only one physical joint where two free edges meet. The three dimensional geometry was extracted from the digital model and the flattened cellular forms were CNC milled from 1/4 sheets of acrylic. During the assembly process, all bent joints were heated with a plastic strip heat bender and bent around an adjustable jig to match the corresponding angle extracted from the digital model. Recentering the Square New York, NY Film Premiere: Center for Architecture in New York REC 00:23:56 The dawn of the Digital Age has provided the tools necessary to conceive and construct buildings which would not have been possible twenty years ago. 41 Cooper Square is a pure child of this new age, conceived and tested in virtual space and constructed through the sharing of complex digital information between architects, consultants and fabricators. Recentering the Square provides an in-depth analysis of the ambitious criteria that drove the form and sustainable features of this new paradigm. The film explains the emergence of 41 Cooper Square by focusing on the following aspects: the sharing of complex information between consultants through advanced BIM technology; the intersection between digital fabrication and hand craftsmanship; and the integration of green design principles and energy efficient systems. These criteria frame an engaging discussion between the narrator, Jason Ivaliotis of VERSA and the Project Manager, Jean Oei of Morphosis. The film features exclusive footage of the interior spaces, exterior environment and captures the material transformation of the building skin through a time lapse sequence as Ms. Oei takes viewers on a tour of the facility and explains the complex process of design and construction. Recentering the Square premiered at the Center for Architecture in New York in June of 2010 and was simulcast live on Archinect.com. Plastic Surgery Institute Website San Juan, Puerto Rico Client: Plastic Surgery Institute Conceived as a digital information center, the website for the Plastic Surgery Institute was designed for Dr. Luis Rodriguez Terry, one of Puerto Rico's leading plastic surgeons. This website functions as a virtual extension of his active medical practice, serving as an online patient center and creating a digital presence on the web. The core area of the site includes the section which features various medical case studies. This section brings the patient consultation process into the digital realm, thereby making it accessible to an international audience. The first version of the website was generated in three weeks and subsequent design services were offered to address the client s changing needs and growing practice.
