1 ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT Engineering and Technology Education focuses on technological knowledge and competence. It is designed to help students understand and to participate in the technological society of today and tomorrow. The engineering and technology education curriculum has been developed to be an action based program for all students to learn how to develop, produce, use and assess the impacts of products and services that extend the human potential to improve and control the natural and human made environment. All Technology Education courses qualify as CORE 40 Technical /Career electives. PLTW courses qualify as Academic Honors Diploma electives. The Indiana Department of Education, Valparaiso Community Schools, and the Technology Department at Valparaiso High School has entered into a partnership with Project Lead the Way Inc. (PLTW) to increase the quantity and quality of graduates who plan to pursue a career in engineering. PLTW has developed a four year sequence of courses which, when combined with traditional Mathematics and Science courses in high school, introduce students to the scope, rigor and discipline of engineering and engineering technology prior to entering college.
