2 APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITY This year marks the 75 th anniversary of the UAW-Ford apprenticeship program. We are very proud and excited about the new language negotiated during National Negotiations as it ensures Ford s commitment to the Joint Apprenticeship Program. The Program has come a long way and we are looking for all of you to take this opportunity to carry the torch and continue this long-standing tradition.

3 INDUSTRIAL READINESS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM The UAW-Ford Apprenticeship Program has been a World Class apprentice program since its inception 75 years ago The Industrial Readiness Certificate Program is just another example of a great and continued effort to improve our program and to open doors for all our eligible employees This program is covered in our Apprenticeship Standards, located in the new CBA between the UAW and Ford Motor Company It took the efforts of UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles and the National Negotiating Team to have the vision to continue to secure opportunities for our employees

4 INDUSTRIAL READINESS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM The IRCP is a non-accredited certificate program that is designed for full-time seniority employees to take a series of three classes designed in partnership with Macomb Community College located in Warren, Michigan Being non-accredited means that these classes will not be able to transfer to a normal degree program Any college classes that you might have taken in the past will not count towards the Industrial Readiness Certificate Program

5 INDUSTRIAL READINESS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM This certificate program is a standard that every eligible employee will have to complete in order to be placed on your identified location s apprentice waitlist, by seniority, by the calendar year of completion The calendar years are open windows during the current year and close December 31 st of each year

6 INDUSTRIAL READINESS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM EXAMPLE: If you complete the program in 2016 and are approved by the NJAC in 2016, you will be on the 2016 list. If you complete the program in 2017 and are approved by the NJAC in 2017, you will be placed on the 2017 list. For apprentice opportunities, the existing current list will be canvassed first. Then, the 2016 list will be canvassed before the 2017 list can be canvassed, regardless if lower seniority employees are on the 2016 list.

7 INDUSTRIAL READINESS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM: THE THREE CLASSES The three classes that must be completed to be eligible to be placed on an apprentice list are: IRCP 1 Shop Arithmetic IRCP 2 Machine Tool Blue Print Reading IRCP 3 Trade Related Preparation It is standard that you need a minimum of 75% for successful completion

8 INDUSTRIAL READINESS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM: THE THREE CLASSES The three classes can be taken all at once. The suggested sequence order is completion of IRCP 1 and IRCP 2 before enrolling in IRCP 3. IRCP classes will be covered under your negotiated tuition assistance Personal Development Assistance (PDA) benefit for eligible employees All classes will be taken on your own time and there will be no wage compensation There will be two options to take these classes: an Online Option or Standard Traditional Classroom with instructors at approved colleges

9 INDUSTRIAL READINESS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM: ONLINE VS. STANDARD CLASSROOM CLASSES Online = Flexibility of Schedule If you choose the online option, you can dedicate as many hours a day to your instruction. But, bear in mind you will be required to take the final exam at your current approved community college or proctor site. The final exam will be taken in person and a photo ID will be required. The final exam for the online option will be scheduled in the same window period that the standard classroom is scheduled for their final exam. So, if you choose the online option, set your pace accordingly.

10 INDUSTRIAL READINESS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM: ONLINE VS. STANDARD CLASSROOM CLASSES Standard Classroom = Human Interaction: If you choose the standard classroom option, you will be required to attend class as scheduled by the local approved community college If you have to drop a class you are enrolled in, employees must follow the schools established drop/add policy and procedures. If a full or partial refund is given for a dropped class, that amount can be applied to retaking the class. The balance of the class cost must be paid out of pocket by the employee.

11 REGISTER FOR CLASSES IRCP CLASSES WILL BE OFFERED THROUGH APPROVED PROVIDERS - You can register for these classes through your approved provider s registration process. - See your local Education Representative or visit the IRCP website at for information on applying for tuition assistance and IRCP registration. - VERY IMPORTANT: Choose your option wisely based on your personal life due to the fact that once you sign into either option (online/standard) you cannot switch midway through the class under any circumstances or you will have to pay out of pocket to retake the class

15 NEXT STEPS Once IRCP classes are completed: Provide transcript to Local Joint Apprenticeship Committee Representative Select three trades choices Provide mailing address NJAC will review and approve application NJAC will add applicant name to the current open window waitlist at their approved location by seniority NJAC will mail Certificate of Completion and congratulatory letter to applicant
